Any Speculations on this Support Ship

Just what is this a Space Port or Support Ship, it seems to large to be anything but some new Spaceport. It’s huge compared to the Carrier and must have thousands living on board, and It doesn’t have a toaster slot so what is it. Maybe the slot is on the back side

Those are, apparently Support Ships that will travel with your Carrier.

There will, apparently, be at least three different variants, an Orbis-style ship (pictured) that'll accompany exploration Carriers, a "Hammerhead" ship that'll accompany mining Carriers and a rocket ship that'll accompany Bounty-Hunting Carriers.

Presumably, the type of Carrier you pick will might determine what specific facilities you have on your Carrier (UniCart/Market/Authority Contact) although whether that will involve interacting with the Support Ship in some way is anybody's guess.

It's worth noting that the Support Ships don't have any landing pads visible on them so it doesn't appear that we'll be landing on them.
It also don't look like they're small enough to land on a Carrier either so it looks like they'll tag along like Pilot Fish to the Carrier's Shark.

Presumably, the Support Ships will serve some useful purpose, though, for FDev to go to the effort of, effectively, doubling the number of new assets that'll be present in the game.
Maybe the Carriers won't be able to move around in-system but the Support Ships will, thus providing some benefit, somehow?

I was hoping the support ships were our carriers, while the large behemoth was for squadrons. Seems I was wrong. I am not a big fan of what I have seen so far, but I will wait until I see the end product before passing judgement.

Personally I would like a much smaller carrier with maybe 4-6 landing pads on them.

They are much smaller, but with no lading pads is my guess. I am diverting there are just there as a visual to represent what services are available on the carrier (exploration might have UC; merc might have that contact you can sell all bounties/bonds to)

I would have much preferred a more customizable ship and not have the support ships.
I think the support ship makes a little more sense than swapping big parts of the ship in the fly. I think there will still be customizable parts, but for more permanent parts of the ship

They did that for the non-dockable mega ships. Ditto shipyards and installations. Nice to look at but no gameplay attached to them, not until the update which allowed you to rob from them, and that update was months later.

So, yeah, I'm curious about those support ships myself. You can't dock on them. You can't pilot them. Maybe we can give them orders to do.....what exactly?

Maybe we can dump cargo into them, but that would be a turnaround from the initial Engineer days when FD were reluctant to allow players to have their own personal cargo storage space. Cargo space would make sense for Trader/Miner support craft but then that leads to other issues. How much cargo can be stored? How much cargo capacity do non-carrier owners get? What stops the carrier owner from jumping off and taking all the cargo other players have dumped into the support ship?

Even then, that leaves the Mercenary support vessel. Doesn't make any sense for that to have cargo space, so its use is.....what?

So many questions to be answered.

It is embarrassing that it needs to be said, but the support ship is not bigger than the carrier. It is closer to the POV than the carrier, thus appearing bigger

But, the habitation ring with the windows in suggests something on large scale, as does the forward "bridge" area. And the scaffolding around the inner part of the ring compared to the large scale scaffolding on the outer edge suggests that too. As do the rear pylons in comparison to the forward bridge "bulb". (Incidentally, does anyone else think it looks horribly similar to the "Event Horizon"? In which case, I'm never going to have one of the damn things!!! :) )

It's quite probable there is fore-shortening, but I don't see it making this vessel really tiny in comparison to the fleet carrier at the moment.

I'm also wondering just how many people are supposed to be on this thing ;) :D

Of course, the one thing we can say with certainty about the whole business is that we just have no solid information details at all :)
