Any Speculations on this Support Ship

I wonder if we can run with just the Carrier if we don't want to perform a particular role and simply have a mobile garage for our ships? Might save some credits that way...

I think a modular Carrier would have been perfectly possible, but the support ships are perhaps something that jumps in when we reconfigure the main carrier for a different role. Pure speculation of course.

Scoob.

All signs/ logic point to Yes

I am not sure why we need support ships on a fleet carrier when we can have many personal ships configured for different roles.

If i was to go into deep space explore and mine than i can see the need for a support ship to fly mined resources back to the bubble while you stayed out and continued on.

Kind of answered your own question there

Mining is the only reason i could see for a support ship, more like a barge with autopilot.
If out in the black you need a way to get mined goods back to the bubble.

For all the rest of activities you can configure your sips for support

FD will have really dopped the ball if they allow that.
Free movement of rare resources on invincible ships to sell at a station of your choosing, and you don't evn have to be there?
That's about ten times worse than alowing you to recall a ship full of cargo.

After thinking about the whole configure for single purpose. I just don't get why one would get locked in to one purpose. One day I may want to do bounty hunting the next do some mining or off to do some exploring and mining.

Why not to build up FC to handle all activities

You now can transfer any of your ships between shipyards, what's the differance sending a ship full of resources.
I think it's time to start gathering resources outside of the bubble.

Maybe you should pay a 10% broker fee

When you transfer a ship it has to be empty, because the game flow ensures that it has no cargo on board. This is to prevent players flooding a station with commodities to affect Power Play. It's specifically designed like that on purpose.

I still think it would be great game play, to go out into the black mine and send your resources back to the bubble. You would have your npc pilot fly it back in real time and have to pay them their rate. Fdev could build a risk factor in getting attacked by pirates. Of course I would have them fly in solo (lol)

Ps I don't have to go to the New York Stock exchange to buy and sell, I can do it from the comfort of my computer at home:)

Well you should get something for billions of credits?

I think that there is some conflicting information between the post and the video. Above it indicates we will be able to change operations of the ship itself. Meanwhile the video mentions support ships under custom load outs.

Also, I think the carrier and support ships will be manned by NPC crew. And the support ship will just follow the carrier in the same instance.

I don’t think they will be pilot-able or follow us, as suggested be some above

I have to agree here. I perceive a logical discontinuity between the trailer video and Paige's post. The trailer was all about support ships, while support ships don't get a guernsey in those promo posters. It's as if FD changed their mind about how they were planning on implementing it, some time in between making the trailer and making those promo posters. I think we really need to wait and see which of these two options (carrier mods or support ships) actually gets implemented.

I think it’s reasonable that both could be true. Perhaps there’s some loadout customization on the carrier itself that does... something? And the ships are there to provide services. But yeah we won’t know until FD can confirm

Hmmm been thinking on these Support ships...
Firstly there has to be storage, in order to collect enough 'Carrier fuel' to make a jump... So Fuel Storage for all support ships..
Then the mining one seems obvious - Everything you mine.. even the opel motherload I guess
Not sure what you would store one the mercenary or Exploration ships though? maybe extra materials?
I guess services would be support specific too... market for Miner, Carto for exploring

Still don't quite get why we need the support ship, however I guess it's buy a carrier and get a free support ship :)

I suppose a support ship for mining would have a function to collect the processed cargo from the player's ship and store it?

My guess is you would dock on the carrier, then transfer to support ship, when the support ship is full some 100,000 tones? then you goto a port and completely flood the market! BGS will have a bit of a wobbly - FDEV please ensure a 'Sell ALL' button from the support ship! :D

At least with a 500-LY jumprange it should be easier to get painite etc. to the starports where you can sell the goods for the most profit. :)

Fleet Carrier... big ship... full of people..... Support Ship... carts away all that bio waste.... then brings back more foodstuffs. Hope they wash that thing down good before the return trip.

Support Ship Pilot... worst job in the galaxy, carting OPS all day long (you can figure out the acronym)... kinda like that of a forums moderator. ;)
