I wonder how extensive the outfitting options will be on a carrier, and will we have to "buy in" modules to fit to docked ships, or gather materials / commodities to craft the modules? If it's quite flexible, then having multiple ships of the same type but different builds might not be required. Though it is of course easier to not have to faff about in outfitting.

Being quite poor regarding the number of ships I have, I'll just take all of them lol. Nothing special, just the expected Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette along with some old faviourites - not used in a while - in the form of the Python, Fer De Lance, Type 7, Asp, iEagle, Cobra MkIII and Sidewinder - those last three being the original free ship my backing tier granted me.

Scoob.

No Vipers and too many large vessels.

You sir, would be a prime gank target.

Scratch that. Any of you who own more large vessels than anything else.

I'd be interested to hear how somebody might (hypothetically) go about ganking a Carrier... which is indestructible and which the owner can enter/leave in Solo mode.

I know they can't be destroyed, but perhaps they can be crippled and unable to move? Also, modules / upgrades might be destroyed, if not the FC as a whole. What mechanics will be in place for a player / group to restore their carrier to fully functional - shipping in materials / commodities etc. - while constantly harrassed by enemies... So many questions lol.

Edit: Obviously SOLO mode can trump anything...if it works as things have so far. What if a Player in Open cannot switch to SOLO if their Carrier is damaged? I doubt FDev would do that though. I personally just play in a Private group, so I wonder if there are any viable NPC threats to a Carrier?

They can however sit in a large gang just outside and shoot at any folk trying to enter or leave.

But I didnt mean the carrier. I meant all those massive "warships" with the turn circle of a small planet.

Some of use like hunting bigger game :p

(I am kidding don't get offended now)

I see new weapons being offered in the future:

The Interruptor Beam: prevent your opponent's ships from launching with this handy beam aimed at the Carrier. Warning! You may overheat while using this device.

The Bask Preventer: spray this obnoxious chemical, derived from Thargoid gunk, over your opponent's Fleet Carrier to reduce all the ship paint jobs to their base metal. Illegal at most civilized stations.

The Obliterator Bomb : destroys your opponent's entire fleet while they sit on the Fleet Carrier. You should keep well clear when this explodes!

My good god.

PvP terrorisim targeted at FC's should DEFINATLY eecome a thing.

I'm beginning to think these fleet carriers are just large portable closets for hoarders. As a minimalist, can I just have the support ship sans carrier?

Sounds about right. I don't own enough ships to fill a carrier and I'm already looking at getting rid of a few ships.

If I can afford one and they look interesting, I'll be oaring my pads out to similar minded individuals. If I can find a small group of politically inclined PP/BGS disruptor.

That can never be a threat unless FDev manage to figure out some way to avoid the problems related to instancing.
You can't really be expected to defend/protect a Carrier if there's no guarantee you're going to instance with the people attacking it.

Honestly, I hope Carriers are visible to everybody (or, at least, there's the option to do that) but I don't expect them to be vulnerable in any way.

Ships arriving/leaving will, presumably, be vulnerable to attack but that's only going to be an issue if you choose to play in Open.

I could see having 4 Dropships and 12 Eagles or Vipers (or 8 and 8). I would then name my fleet carrier Battlestar Galactica. It would look way more cool having these on deck rather than some hodgepodge mishmash.

I am sensing a salt storm should CMDRs find out that FC will not give the possibility to carry your own fleet around. There is no confirmation for this. Just saying...

Are you getting the asteroid base builder 2022 DLC?

Yes, the new SRV that comes with it looks amazing. You land on the asteroid and the SRV burrows into it.

Well that would put this update right on the top of the podium for the most worthless game addition ever. A very expensive, fueled by grind personal fleet carrier that cannot even carry your personal fleet... It would basically render the fleet carriers nothing but expensive space floating turds. That's why it's hard to believe (but surely not impossible) that could be the case.
