Developer Journal: Franchise Mode

Great update!
Will the Online Franchise Mode have any sort of division in place (for example, region, or 50 players get their own shared space), or will it be everyone in Franchise Mode able to work with others? Just curious if I meet up a fellow player elsewhere online whether we can work together in Franchise Mode.

Thanks

So excited about this mode. I can't wait to work together, and maybe team up with some other community members, to build some incredible animal's! Thanks for the inclusion of this real world mechanic!

I have so many questions, please Frontier help me out

Is this breeding secret available on beta?
Does animals from beta franchise mode transferable to the full release game?
Are we able to trade animals with frinds directly instead of using trade center?
Is there franchise mode like sandbox with unlimited money?

This is too exciting!!

All of this sounds awesome :)

Now all we need is it to be announced that we can visit other players' Franchise Zoos.

I think I remember one of the Gamescom streamers (I think it might have been rudi but not sure) read some of the ways we could get the conservation credit. And, if I remember correctly, one way was by visiting zoo’s. But I should check it again to be certain.

Edit: okay I remembered I commented the same on some other post but I remember I posted it while watching the video so the info should be correct.

Yeah okay just watching rendhammer’s stream from tuesday and he reads what the conservation money is. You get it by completing challenges, releasing animals to the wild, having your avatars visit other zoo’s (which is exciting that we will be able to visit other people’s zoo’s), ...

I hope we don't need to be always online. Hopefully we can still play in our Franchise-Zoos, but of course without Online-Features.

Will it be possible to send an Animal from a own Zoo to another own Zoo?

This animal sharing sounds indeed very interesting!

I am wondering: have you implemented game mechanics to prevent all too easy "optimal genetics"?
After all, the player base breeding for the best genes will probably be quite large. Isn't there a danger of quickly maxed-out gene quality?
Do genes regress over time? Is there a random factor (= harmful mutations) that can lead to sub-optimal offspring even with genetically perfect parents?

Im very excited about this mode! I've been dreaming of something like this :love:

PLEASE do not make the Conservation Credits something you can pay for with actual money!!
The Dev Diary explains exactly what they are. You earn them by completing certain objectives and selling animals to other players. It's just a second type of currency alongside the regular currency used for building and guests paying you.

Hiya, just seen a few questions pop up here and there so we wanted to give some additional information which hopefully answers most things!

Franchise Mode:
  • This Mode is different from Sandbox, and the economy will always be there (so no unlimited funds).
  • Trading in Franchise Mode means you buy animals from other players in the Animal Market; you cannot trade with friends directly, but you interact with the Animal Market as a whole.
  • Trading is only for habitat animals, exhibit animals cannot be traded.
  • You can transfer animals between your own Franchise Mode zoos; for example if you have an amazing Grizzly Bear in your first zoo, and the next one needs some genetic diversity, you can grab that Grizzly Bear to be transferred to a new zoo within your own Franchise.
  • Deluxe Animals can only be traded with others who have the Deluxe Edition of Planet Zoo; if you have the Standard Edition they simply won't show up in your Market.
  • Franchise Mode always requires an online connection, however Career and Sandbox Mode do not - similar to Planet Coaster you just need to be online to validate your purchase, after which you can run the game in offline mode.
  • Conservation Credits are shared throughout all zoos in your Franchise, whereas in-game Cash is kept in the zoo it was earned in.
Some other bits:
  • Conservation Credits are not for sale, we absolutely do not have pay-to-win mechanics in Planet Zoo! You buy the game once. As the Developer Journal specifies, you can earn Conservation Credits through undertaking certain objectives, completing community challenges, releasing animals to the wild, and trading in the Animal Market.
  • Similar to Planet Coaster, the avatar you create can randomly appear in other people's parks; this is not the same as visiting other players' zoos! It just means that your avatar can appear elsewhere. The only way to "visit" other players' zoos, is to subscribe to a zoo that's been uploaded to the Steam Workshop, and open it on your own PC - this lets you explore what other players have created - exactly like how the Planet Coaster Workshop functions.
  • We will have more information on how the Beta will function in the next few weeks! For the breeding secret Piers mentions, you'll just have to wait patiently ;)!
Hope this gives some clarity on some of the discussions here :).
