ANNOUNCEMENT Content Reveal Livestream - September Update - Recap

I have simply used a keybind for entering supercruise
Facepalm! Do people not READ!?

First mission from the Horizons start at Baker's Prospect on Asellus 2 was to fly to an external system and if the planet happened to have rotated, getting in the way of a clear jump there were no instructions on how to clear the planet and make the jump by selecting a local target first to supercruise into orbit.

At the time this appeared to be a woeful oversight by FDev, and it confused some players.

But you don’t have to select any target to go into SC, I think is the point being made here.

It took me a while to discover it. Say I was on a planet surface and I wanted to go to a local station, if that was blocked by the planet I was sitting on, like you, I was selecting another planet to aim at then changing destination once in SC, but you don’t have to have a target to launch into SC, you can just launch into it, hence the binding suggestion. Launch into SC then select the obscured target, then navigate around the planet. Boomshanka.

Right, you don't, but the mission was telling you to select the remote system and jump, which returned the same response each time you tried it, "Destination obscured" or some such. Considering some, for whatever reason have less curiosity than patience to try something else in a brand new game...

They quit in disgust, and contribute to the "never got out of the newbwinder" statistic.

[To save on keybinds you can use the same one for high and low wake, dependent on the target.]
[Edit: And since this update is about the new player experience, and how to retain more newbs...]

Fair enough. Though it has to be said, I was as smug as a cat when I discovered this non target jumping. I’d hate to lose experiences like that.

That wasn't an issue when I jumped in, pre-Horizons at Trevithick Dock in LHS 3447.

It was an issue for a couple of FPS players though, who still struggle with this game...

[Edit: Steam friends who I may not have suggested / promoted ED to given hindsight.]

Pretty nice for newbies, but won't change my style of playing.

But changing the appearance of the ship (livery) during the flight out in the black? Really, FD?

Otherwise, I like the new view of the ships. You can see their real appearance. Much better than the old style in the hangar.

I asked for years to be able to change my in-cockpit deco without docking so that I can have my bobbling Christmas tree without returning to the bubble. But repainting the complete hull while out in the back…??? This goes too far IMHO.

I was initially in favour of this change but maybe you are correct and all the splash screen options should only work when docked.

Want to buy that limited time paint job but not in a station? DENIED! Run for a station!
Want to remap your controls out in the black? DENIED! Should have mapped it before heading out, ya loser!
Want to log in to a different mode? DENIED! Mode changes only in stations.
Change graphics options? DENIED! Choose your graphics in the station and DEAL with it.
Want to log out of the game? DENIED! No logouts unless docked - stock up of caffeine before undocking.

I think that's where you're heading - right? 🤔

Tbh this felt like an internal development update, new player experience and shop changes are great for frontier but will hardly effect my gameplay. Great for new players too.

Yes this new assitance for the new players was essential and should encourage the new Cmdrs to persevere in the game.

A very good idea of Frontier.
