Valve Index Performance

Setting it to 80Hz has seemed to help some, and I'm back to motion smoothing off.

I've decided feeding this fantastic HMD with a subpar video card just won't do, so I have a 2080 TI arriving Wednesday!

Please let us know how you get on - I have a 1080 TI, and thinking of replacing my broken CV1 soon. Quite a lot of options now...

Ugh and I was considering an Index, but only have a standard 1080... I may have to give up on my dream of high qualitt VR at reasonable quality settings...

With everything turned down as I had, it's totally playable and still a substantial visual upgrade from the CV1.

I'll be very interested to see how you fare. I've boxed up the Pimax 5K (grrrr... enough said) and returned to the CV1, which is still quite good even as a 1st gen. But now I'm looking for something better.

I got my 2080 TI running last night and it is a significant improvement. I prefer to leave lots of headroom in day-to-day scenarios to minimize/eliminate chugging under the most taxing circumstances, e.g. night vision on in an asteroid field with lots of ships around.

To that end, for now, I've settled on locking resolution at 100% in Steam VR, 90 Hz refresh, motion smoothing off, and these in-game settings:

143601

I have index and 2080ti also.
there are two sliders in steamVR, there is a global one in the video section and there is another in the application.

what is your global or base set too

i have been playing with global SS = 150 and elite application SS = 120
giving a total of 180% (1.5 x 1.2 = 1.8)

i have been hoping to get to global 150 and application to 130
giving a total of 195% (1.5 x 1.3 = 1.95)

it works but in stations reprojection kicks in, its ok in space. the 180% seems ok around asteroids also. I haven't tested asteroids at 195%

i also leave in game SS to 1.0 and HMD IQ to 1.0, it does seem to perform better with steamvr SS rather than in game. I need to test to confirm, and I'm not sure if image quality is better or not. I am ok running at 80hz rather than 90 which gives a few mill seconds head room

i do have shadows and Amb Occ set to Low

the reason for asking is, i got index 3 weeks ago.... and i am trying to find the highest settings which give the best quality image and performance.

i suspect i will end up, having reprojection or smooth motion kicking in at stations and not everywhere else.

By this I mean I've set custom to 100% under Video and I haven't set anything application-specific. ED is the only VR game I play right now so I can keep it simple. This definitely leaves lots of headroom in typical running around but doesn't hitch anywhere, which is how I prefer it.

I've found the most demanding place to tune my settings is is in an planetary ring RES, just above the plane with lots of asteroids and ship models visible, and night vision on.
