Dinosaurs Play animations

You know, with the release of the Herbivore Dinosaur Pack, I just came up with something else for “playing” dinosaur animation sequences. It is similar to one of my previous comments here, and it’s for the Dryosaurus.

When two individual dryos are playing together, they would literally jump onto and run up a long sauropod’s tail back (Ankylodocus, Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, and Nigersaurus) all the way down the neck and hop right of the head of the sauropods.

They are small enough to do this, plus it’s just to reference their cohabitation with the Jurassic sauropods.
Ugh no, that's way too goofy.

I agree with LordTrilobite, that just doesn't Sound right. It's something that might be suitable for dinosaur movies and series like The Land Before Time (great series btw), but not for this game.
Yeah I see what you mean. Maybe a better horizontal sauropod one would be macaws (like the ones we see when adding/removing trees) trying to land on them, causing them to shake them away. This isn't exactly "playing" but its still a fun idea.

What I mean is this below:

Dryosaurus itself is fairly large, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be able to run up a horizontal sauropod's tail if it had to. You can see the size comparison below with both the aptosaurus and nigersaurus.

When I say "hop onto and run up the tail of a sauropod, I mean that in an animation sequence, the sauro's tail would be lowered so that there is enough of a ramp the dryos can run up.

When it ends, they will jump off the sauropod from the neck or the head, but only when their necks and heads are lowered to the ground, just enough for them to jump down safely. While they hop off, the sauropods would look at the pair confused, but with the nigersaurus, due to its smaller size, it would be rather a bit annoyed.

If you want a further reference, it was inspired by the cute dinosaur behavior from the Dinosaur Revolution documentary, and by this piece of art from DeviantArt user, AntoninJury: https://www.deviantart.com/antoninjury/art/Stowaways--556152493
(Now, the othneilias are smaller and are merely just resting on the hesperosaur's back, but you probably get where I got the point of having the idea of small ornithopods being on the backs of bigger herbivores in general.)

And besides, despite being a very low rating dinosaur in-game, it's also an endgame type dinosaur, in which you can unlock and acquire on Isla Sorna, the final island and location in the game's main campaign. So, why not make an endagme dinosaur that is so cute already, more unique by making it so something else that other dinosaurs can't do in concept?

I think you're missing my point. I wasn't saying it would be impossible. I'm saying that it would look really dumb. Dryosaurus is much too big.
And Dinosaur Revolution was terrible with unrealistic characters that behaved like humans. More like a cartoon than a documentary. Ugh.

What LordTrilobite said. Dinosaurs in the Jurassic-Franchise portray ancient beasts that are difficult to control. It just wouldn't fit if they suddenly started playing with each other in such an odd way. As mentioned, for cartoons etc your idea might be suitable, but not for this game.

That said, a smaller version of the script could be a small dinosaur jumping over the tail of a sauropod - but it would be hard to start such a script in a natural way.

I think it will be cute if dryosaurus would follow and run around sauropods and maybe stegosaurus. They are very defenseless creatures, so they would like the company of bigger dinosaurs.

They won’t climb on them but run around the sauropod and look at them as a group, trying to socialize with them.

It will add to a playfulness and a multiple species relationship that isn’t based on the eat or be eaten standard the game has.

Are you both aware that some animals in real life can do some of the most unexpected things with other species if they have or decide to? You do both know that Jurassic World Evolution, and the entire franchise, takes liberties to some degree, even with paleontologist Jack Horner’s advise for all of the films and this game, as long as they seem “realistic enough”?

Dryosaurus I just saw as an exception from “terrifying monsters”. In fact, not all of the dinosaurs in the film or the game are even portrayed as such. It’s a dinosaur pack exclusive and thus, doesn’t need to be portrayed as mission required species that would go “Aggrevated”. You would only have to worry about it and all others if they get too uncomfortable into the red zone, or if they escape from an already broken down fence.

It may be big, sure, but that doesn’t mean that Frontier can’t take some kind of approach that’s still grounded to the behavior and abilities to what any animal species in the world can (or at least could) do in real life, similar to what the franchise, since its novel origin, has always been doing. This I thought as because animals can portray “fun and joy” in the most (to the general public) unusual ways. That’s also where I kinda got the idea from. I saw the in-game dryosaurus as like the “monkeys” of this game in the right perspective.

But, if you want smaller dinosaurs to fill this role, how about Homalocephale but with the tails and backs of ankylosaurs?

Dryosaurus and Homalocephale are roughly the size of a small horse and a large dog respectively. These types of animals don't climb on top of other big creatures. They are simply much too big. Birds like the Macaw that's already in the game? Sure that could work. It could be interesting to see smaller birds sitting on the back of a large sauropod like Diplodocus. But other than that this whole idea just makes no sense at all. The dinosaurs in the game are simply much too big and heavy.

I don't want our dinosaurs to be monsters either, but I would prefer a more realistic behavior. Running around the legs of taller sauropods would be cute but still believable.

OMG this its exactly what the game need, differents behavior por species ! fell that are animal with differentes action that eat and walk
In my opinion i think that the pachy fight animation its wasted in the game, it would be great if it didn't just happen with overpopulation

One way I think playing could be implemented is with a DLC that adds place-able decorations that have scripts associated with them:
  • A hollow log that small dinosaurs may run through, hide in, stalk each other through, or jump on top of
  • A tree stump that various dinosaurs will stand on, pounce from
  • A tall rock formation
  • A mud or dust wallow for larger dinosaurs
  • A carnivore feeder that throws meat pieces for dinosaurs to catch, intercept, and fight over
  • A scratching tree (or manmade structure) for large dinosaurs to rub against
  • Stepping stones that small dinosaurs may use to cross water
As well as scripts that can happen anywhere - small interactions, and definitely some cross species interactions.
Also please give us small herbivores trying (and failing) to jump up to tall feeders

While I definitely like the ideas you listed there - hell no, please no DLC! This game did already cost 50€ when I got it to Christmas, half a year after it got released. That's quite a lot of money, especially when looking at the fact that it basically was less than more finished upon release. And Frontier keeps pumping out DLCs and Expansion Packs, definitely good stuff, but all in all customers are paying way more than what this game is actually worth.

So, yes to your ideas, no to the DLC. Putting each little additional content and dinosaur into a DLC you have to pay for as well is just brash. At some point it makes me wonder whether we're dealing with Frontier or EA here.
