Celebrating 35 years of Elite!

My memory off elite I have few from my child hood I remember using a quick shot joystick flying about in a space craft and smuggling .
After rediscovering elite dangerous
I found my pilots licence allowed me to finally get in to a python after setting off on its maiden voyage with a bunch off VIP on way back found a new button saying auto dock had to press it and left the cockpit to make a brew after coming back to my horror python was no more and cmdr Ground Defence found himself back in a sidwinder building up the bank balance again with a new lesson learnt now not to risk flying without a rebuy
Fly safe and smart cmdrs
If not fly dangerous

My favourite memory is reaching elite rank in Elite -- yes, I've been with you that long.
Sadly, I missed the cutoff date for the free plastic badge by just a few weeks. I applied anyway -- ever hopeful -- but no badge arrived.
(I don't suppose you still have one lying around in a drawer somewhere, by any chance?)

What I love most in Elite: Dangerous is the chaos, and the sound designs that come with them. My favorite memory would have to be going (for the first time) to a station that had been attacked by Thargoids to rescue survivors. Seeing the station in disarray, fires and destroyed sections, the anxiety and stress that you can hear in the traffic controllers voice -- it was all pretty incredible! What stood out the most was going inside. I remember something had exploded and knocked me off-course. I got stuck on some floating debris. Heat was building up, alarms were blaring and I was in my Cutter. It's fun to be in these situations because you have to think quickly about how you're going to get yourself out of them. I feel this was just so well designed to give that foreboding feeling of a serious emergency. I loved it. Hopefully we will get more scenarios like this in the future!

Massively into retrogaming still, so my favourite Elite memories stem back from playing the enhanced version on a BBC Master with 6502 co-processor back in the day.

I managed to get myself a copy of the 'Executive Edition' to use on my current pimped out BBC Master (albeit, it now has a Raspberry Pi co-pro fitted). On 5.25" disk of course!

I will never forget the first time on docking I was presented with the text "Incoming Message" and the shock, thrill and sheer excitment this provided! I originally bought the game back in 1984 on the Commodore 64 getting home to find the instructions missing! I spent the next few weeks working out all of the keys using the trial and error method and only the amazing Dark Wheel as a source of reference. Intergalactic travel and 8 galaxies was the final mind blowing discovery a couple of months later!! 35 years on and I still think this is one of my greatest achievements!! I may have looked a typical working class 14 year old boy but I travelled the universe every night and I'm never looking back.

I remember Sinclair ZX Spectrum time. Thank you for great game!
Goureev out!

Elite Dangerous was my FIRST foray into the ELITE universe, almost 4 years ago. I would not have made it very far if not for my friends who had started before me and helped me out from the beginning. To this day we fly together, either in the same space or far apart while chatting and still help each other.

I think my favorite memory is the time I was able to get out of the Sidewinder and buy the Mighty COBRA MK III. A ship I loved and still have in my inventory.

One of my favorite moments is my first visit at the Bug Killer Crashed Anaconda
Cmdr Northpin, XBox

I was getting into atmosphere by scanning and reading the beacons and then i tried to get a bearing to the crashed srv i knew was a few clicks away...
When some weird noises really startled me and i noticed an Interceptor over the site. Ouch!
Well, it literally scared the ship out of me - my first reaction was to dismiss the ship parked nearby and i relaxed a bit when the Interceptor ignored my departing ship
I watched the interceptor put up a nice show scanning the area, still wondering if it will blow away my SRV or not, but eventually the Interceptor left and i was glad that my SRV was still intact

Eventually i found my bearing to the crashed srv and i was circling the site, noticing the details and reading the last message of the unfortunate Commander Clark Barrow...
When again i was deafened by weird noises and a green light lit the area. The Interceptor was back
I was pretty sure it will destroy my SRV this time, so i stopped an waited for the inevitable. To my amazement, the Interceptor scanned the area, then it beamed up an Escape Pod that was nearby the crashed srv and left.

That was my first close encounter with a Thargoid Interceptor, but what a thrill.

Oh the noise of the audio tape loading the game! Acorn Electron and BBC b while at collage, The Thargoids were pretty cool also, hijacking your hyperspace jump! Where did my life go btw??? ;)

My best memory

Was reading the manual whilst waiting for the game to load. Reading the note which I think was from an uncle and an introduction to my ship. Also the password verification where I had to look up a page and a paragraph to pass security.

So far, It's just the feeling of watching my ship auto-dock. It was very 2001 with the music and everything spinning. Dangerous was my first Elite game. Commander name is Corrax Ong

My most fond memory (and there have been many since), was as a (back then) computer mad 10 year old. One of my parents friends bought me Elite for the ZX Spectrum that Christmas, and for the very first time I discovered a game where I could do anything, and go anywhere! There was no score, no set levels, no rules - just me, my trusty Cobra Mk III, and the galaxy. Even a supernova here and there! ;)

1985 - Best Christmas Ever!

That opened my eyes to a world of roleplay and imagination which I hadn't encountered previously and I spent many happy years throughout school building cockpits with my speccy and telly, cushions, chairs and sheets to make it even more immersive.

My Commander's exploits were the stuff of space legend - my first docking computer - I can still remember the feeling of the achievement even today! A military laser or two, and the much lusted after ECM, and eventually - a Galactic Hyperdrive! I measured those formative years in achievements in my Cobra rather than plastic football trophies unlike my more energetic peers.

Over time I moved from the Speccy models up through Amiga and First Encounters, eventually through to ED where I was overjoyed to back the Kickstarter - I've played Elite on virtually every machine/device I've owned, and even picked up a BBC to play it natively.

Elite also made me fall in love with computing, and was a direct influence on my obsession with computers, degree course and career in IT and software development - without that first introduction 30+ years ago - I wouldn't be who I am now in many respects. Elite is still the yardstick by which I judge every other game I've played, and will be my all time favourite until I head out to the stars myself!

So, from my 9 year old self, my heartfelt thanks to David Braben, Ian Bell, and all who have been involved with Elite and Frontier Development past, present and future!

Here's to another 35 years! I'll still be playing Elite even then, that's for certain!

Right On Commanders!!!

My best memory was landing in a station for the first time without blowing up. I still manually land everywhere, can't stand autodock. Such simple pleasures.

For me my memory of Elite is this :)

Many wishes for the 35th Frontier anniversary

I hope to win the PJ for the cobra, I love that ship <3

My fave memory had to have been when I first got my Federal Corvette, (Playing in VR) and I had my friend who also was in a Corvette, we both undocked from a ring station at the same time. And I chose to do something funny, starting at the back of the station boost out the letterbox with my friend right behind me and THEN hitting flight assist off and flipping over so i was boosting backwards, with his and my ship kissing, as I had no idea if I was going to make it,
The shock of seeing the blue plasma pass you from behind with no impact was amazing, but then my friend started to wobble. I thought he was trying flight assist off but NO, there was a type 10 coming right for him, (and in turn me) trying to get into the station, there was a massive impact and they both got stuck in the letterbox, trying to pass each other, Station lasers were firing and I just said "BYE FELICIA" and tried doing a flight assist off turn, but I got confused (being in a new and huge ship that was pretty much stock) and accidently boosted towards the Letterbox hitting them both and inturn getting lasered myself, followed by the Police My friend blew up and I kinda giggled for a second and then realised I might not be able to afford a rebuy then I panicked and JUST managed to get out of the system with 11% Hull
And now we joke about how young and reckless we were and till this day IT still remains my BEST memory on Elite.
