Celebrating 35 years of Elite!

My favourite moment was in ArcElite in the early 90s, when I was fighting a group of pirates by myself and another Cobra with white military lasers like a well equipped player would have, showed up, who also started attacking the pirates. I assumed everyone was hostile in the game, but didn't shoot this ship. When all the pirates were dead they just started flying away.
I flew alongside them into other nearby fights, fighting alongside them, and I let myself imagine, even though we didn't have internet at that time, it was another player - and found the thought pretty awesome.
It just seemed completely out of nowhere without introduction, even though many games have programmed companions, it felt organic and a glimpse of what was to come.
The truth of multiplayer games turned out to be considerably less romantic, and far more wantonly murderous than it was in my head.

Congratulations!

On a side note, i'm pretty shure in the past when i got the classic Cobra Wireframe skin Frontier said it would be an exclusive.

I remember from MSX era (year 198x) some special mission including cloaked ship. Killed it got cloaking device to my Cobra MK III.

And that feeling when you do galactic jump time...

My 'favorite' memory is trying to get the bloody lens-lock protection to work so I could play Elite on by Spectrum....good times.

We have had this 'favourite memory of Elite' competition before, I shared mine at the time. This paintjob looks like one of the 'never to be repeated one time offer' ones from Beta. I missed out on that one but perhaps FDev could clarify that they do not intend to celebrate 35 years by annoying early adopters.

My Cmdr name is MalcRiverside.

Playing the original Elite on my commodore 64 (my school friends also had Elite on spectrum), reading the Dark Wheel and waiting for Elite to load up on tape (those were the days eh!), my favourite moments have to be writing down how many times 'RIGHT ON COMMANDER!' appeared on screen before you obtained Elite status for some competition (I can't remember what it was for, either a computer magazine or Elite publishers)

My favorite time with Elite was in the original game, played on an TRS 80 PC (8088 CPU). I thought it absolutely amazing that a game of such scope could live on a single 720K floppy (along with saves). To this day, I am amazed by the fact it was written entirely in assembler. After months, I progressed through the levels, even being attached by a Clipper while in my trusty Cobra, all the while dipping in and out of the ring of the station in Lave. The final moment was when I finally attained Elite, in the original game, and seeing the static image of the pilot holing his newly earned Pilot's Federation ID that flashed in various rainbow-like colors.
To this day, because of my age, I still get to tell new players that I was Elite before they were even born.

Favorite memory... There are so many. I guess it would be when I left the station for the first time in open after I completed the training. I remember the feeling of excitement, and danger I got thinking to myself "this is it, this is the game I've been waiting for. It's finally here." I had always been a huge fan of anything space related, and my biggest disappointment with games had been that they end. Elite: Dangerous ( was my first experience with the franchise) amazed me with the idea that I was about embark on a journey I had waited forall my life, and never expected to happen. With the entirety of the Milky Way laid out before me I smiled, engaged my FSD, and set out to see, and do all the things I had been dreaming about since I was a child. Thank you Frontier Developments for allowing me the opportunity to experience our beautiful galaxy. o7
Sincerely,
Cmdr. Zed691

Mine is going way back to October 1984 my mum had bought me the game for my birthday in November and given me it early as I wouldn't stop going on about it. She gave me the box without the game for a week though for a joke! However that gave me the chance to read the novella 'The Dark Wheel' and that really got me excited to get into the universe.

I can't remember if the book mentions that large ships left Earth bound for the stars with passengers frozen, and they are still travelling through space and cannot be interacted with. Or if I just imagined or dreamt that at the time! Anyway it's what fuelled my fondest memory when a friend and me were playing the game and thought we'd come across one of the gigantic ships. We were pretty excited and even wrote to a Computer & Video Games to say about we'd spotted one.

Our excitment was well and trully rained on however when the magazine printed that someone else had sent a picture in and when checking with Acornsoft if it was genuine they replied that Braben & Bell has stated there was no such thing in the game and it was probably some wierd error due to hardware faults.

I don't care as far as I'm concerned I saw one of those fabled ships :)

I don't know if this counts, but I want to tell it, sorry for this. I was born the same year he became an elite (84), so I never met him, (my first video game was a 2600 atari and I was a console player until 18 that I got my first PC), I'm sure I would have gotten hooked like now. But not long ago I discovered that the Dog´s life game is a Frontier game! and it made me very happy, it reminds me of a weekend with my first girlfriend playing the two very close together with that beautiful game, it won our hearts at 2 !!, was very special, sweet memories...

Now I am totally in love with Elite D.

Edited: I just realized that I didn't have to be the original elite :ROFLMAO: I guess I'm creating good memories now for the future.

My favorite memory of playing Elite Dangerous was back in 1986 on the BBC Micro for the very first time.
But my most recent memory of Elite Dangerous is returning to the game in 2017 on the PS4.

How times have changed.

Sooo, I'd have to say, my favorite experience would be immediately after buying Horizons. Here goes; so me and my buddy are in a wing on our way to an extremely fast moving planet, well, in my bored stupor I went AFK to go eat and came back to my ship bouncing on the planet's surface like a goldfish. I had managed to, while AFK, somehow get into orbit of this planet without supercruise assist and survive. And note, this planet has 32 second long days. It. Moves. FAST. I proceeded to land on the planet near my buddy and we investigated this, "ghost ship" that was crashed into the surface. Turns out, it was a fully functional and hostile Pirate... we died. Horribly. All in good fun though! Also, the planet's name was Mitterand Hollow, for those interested.

My favorite memory?
It was after grinding for days on end, MONTHS on end, of bounties, hauling tons of material, slaves(I know, I'm a terrible person), becoming sort of a terrorist at one point, and wayyyy too many data runs. I was able to finally buy my first DiamondBack Explorer, fully outfit it, and immediately headed for Betelgeuse, Barnard's Loop and VY Canis Majoris. I reached my goal of becoming an explorer and haven't looked back since.
Currently in my brand-new Asp Explorer, engineered to high hell and on my first run to Colonia.
Also as an honorable mention just for fun, the second-best memory was taking a Dolphin outfitted for luxury passengers and only a 20 LY jump range, and taking a mission to the core. So. Many. Jumps.

Love your mum's joke 😁

My favorite was discovering and decoding all of the Guardian ruins, and then waking up to a Galnet article written about my crew. The whole process of working with a team of random people I had only met because of the mystery surrounding that update, triangulating locations from the background star maps in grainy videos, logging locations and combinations we had found, strategizing where we were going to look next, etc...was a completely unique experience for a video game that I will never forget. Finding out that our discoveries actually triggered in-game advances was the icing on top. It’s things like that which make Elite feel as if it’s more than just a game. You’re a meaningless little space pilot 99% of the time, but with some effort and luck, you can actually make a tangible impact on the galaxy.
