Store Icon Protest

I don't know. As long as it allows them to continually improve the game I am absolutely for it. The game is 5 years old and they still release big updates on a regular basis, this can't be done with the traditional expansion model. Before micro transactions were a thing companies created a game, maybe released an expansion or two and then went on with the next game. I really like playing a game for a decade, I think that's pretty awesome.

There's exceptions to that, there's a game I bought which had three expansion packs and nothing more, and I played it for over 15 years. A company recently re-vamped and re-released it too.

There's plenty of games that don't use microtransactions, and make plenty of profit and are able to be played for as long as you enjoy playing it.

But yes, this business model does make profits higher.

Which is .. of course ... the complaint :)
Honestly, I don't think it is.

I think people's issue is that it makes FD appear like money-grubbers. Which, tbh, welcome to literally any business.

People seem to have held FD and ED on some pedestal above "the everyday triple-A titles", maybe because it was born of a kickstarter? Maybe because of the nostalgia value? I dunno... but the general response to this seems to be some amped-up sense of betrayal.

But again... this is nothing new compared to the NeX store EVE launched years back, and that didn't die.

Meh - some people. Once they get rid of the wrong coloured icon I'm good.
And that's a valid complaint, imo.

But to assess the overall community response to such a complaint? Absolutely disproportionate to me. But again, I don't think that's the "broader communities" issue here

Yeah, there's a difference between being a business and making money for creating excellent products - and using every trick in the book to gouge.

Just because there are mobile games out there that use more and more predatory tactics every day, while research departments come up with more, doesn't mean "well we only used a few...😀" Is OK.

So yeah, you're pretty right about what bothers me, though I do also hate the OOC nature of the button getting into the IC of the game.

Yeah - Will's already said the feedback has been passed on. If they say they're changing the colour to match the HUD then I'm ok - especially if they hide the store in livery where it was (there was no need to change that).

The virtual-currency-deniers will continue, but that's just like the FSS-deniers - only with even less chance of 'success'.

Certainly hasn't, I'm British though, I like complaining.

I also don't give up when something doesn't work right away. (Not sure if also British trait...)
You might want to recognise what influence you have over this situation. Asking for an icon change is one thing but asking for a company to change it's business model when you're a single unit customer... Not happening.

That's not actually my goal here, I like to think I'm not that silly.

This isn't the only place I talk about this.

And feeling that way is fine. Personally, I don't agree, but in an irrational debate like this one where cognitive dissonance flows hard, you won't find much agreeance anyway.

True, I am a fan of Mount & Blade, Total War and Jagged Alliance. They are all games that I enjoy years after release. But they don't get new content.

If everyone who played the game was also an active member of this forum, and a majority were complaining about any particular issue, then one would expect the developers to take some notice.
As a minority of the actual player base inhabit this forum (and some of those inhabitants openly declare they have stopped playing) and of that minority only another minority are 'offended' by the new store icon & its placement, the best thing Frontier could do is ignore the noise being made...

Then they could spend their development time doing something more productive... e.g. bug fixing :)
The community has to be interpreted as a percentage not as an absolute number. If 90% of the community complains you have to expect that also 90% of players that don't write in the forums are bothered. That's how statistics work. Pretending else is just wrong

And 90% of this community is complaining?
Approximately how many members of the community as a whole are bothering to make a fuss?

Otherwise what you say is correct - if 90% of the community makes the same comment it would be a 'reasonable' indication, but there is nothing like even 5% of the forum membership posting complaints or sporting blue handbags in protest!

Just hopped on, still got zero ARX...

If this whole new store / livery etc module was supposed to work without needing to dock at a station to change paintjobs etc in the black, why is there a store option in-game at all, not out in the main menu? If they must leave that store icon where it is at least change it to consistent orange like everything else.

Opening either Livery or Holo-Me and selecting an item you don't already own triggers an option showing it's cost in ARX and a click here to visit the store to get some but I'm not seeing an option to use credit I already have in my Steam wallet like before and it seems they want way too many personal details too.

Shame. That green racing mamba paintjob looks hawt, except the number is wrong :p

[Edit: OMG, there's even store links in the pause menu. Seems a lot like overkill FDev!]

it will still be available, just at the normal ARX Amnt. setting it to 1ARX is just a way to allow FDev to test their new store

You could look at it that way, or you could be pleased with your freebie bobblehead.

I'm expecting regular budget items like the free codes we used to get.

True, you would need to add some error margin though. People posting on the forums aren't normal after all.
