Really? Why not? By the amount and detail of things that were leaked, the leaker would likely have to be someone pretty senior in the company, management at least... seems unlikely someone at that level would risk their career to create a stir for no reason.
Are we talking about the same leak still? It didn't seem to include very much information that wouldn't be common knowledge for any employee at the company.

And it didn't, for example, mention Arx or Fleet Carriers for Elite Dangerous, and you'd think if it was a deliberate leak to build hype for those then Fleet Carriers would have been in, given the response their official announcement has got.

It's also strange that Fdev have not put out any kind of statement or clarification about the leak, which by itself implies that Fdev are happy to let it run - this does make it seem that the leak was allowed intentionally.
If Frontier make a policy of commenting on the accuracy of leaks, then by carefully constructing a series of fake leaks we could find out what they were actually working on.

Either it's true, in which case they won't want to officially confirm it until they know for certain it's actually going to be in the release. Or it's false and someone just made it up (taking a bit of inside knowledge for the short-term predictions and then making up the rest), in which case they don't gain anything by saying so.

How about starting around x-mas time if every fortnight or month there was a dev diary or livestream specifically for "the big update"? Surely help build some excitement and interest in it?
Considering that's how they've always done it, I guess that's going to happen as soon as it gets announced.

Just a thought ….. if FD did release a statement this early in the process (talking about the 2020 update here), would we actually believe what they say?

I don't think a companies long-term plans usually get shared with every employee in a company, especially when secrecy is a factor. My company don't even do that and our developments are far less interesting.

It mentioned "keeping Elite making money in the meantime" which is the clear motivation behind Arx.

Not necessarily, I'd expect one of the community managers to make a statement about the leaks suggesting caution about their authenticity or something like that. Radio silence on it is telling.

It's been 100% accurate so far, adding the Arx update meta tags into the equation and it looks like the leaks are pretty much bang on.

Details, no. High-level plans, yes.

I could (though I won't) tell you what my organisation's broad two-year roadmap is just from "general internal knowledge" and there's no chance of me working on almost any of that, nor am I particularly senior. Not every organisation keeps secrets internally from itself - especially somewhere like Frontier where employees do move between projects for internal job openings, and therefore might like to know what the project is.

The accuracy of what was included combined with the vagueness of what was omitted (you can perhaps read it to hint at Arx if you like, but not Fleet Carriers) suggests to me:
- probably a genuine leak by a real employee, and accurate so far as they knew
- probably by a low-level employee not on the Elite Dangerous team
- quite possibly therefore wrong in important aspects concerning Elite Dangerous

Actually I'd say the omission of fleet carriers from the leak actually gives strength to the idea that the leak was intentional - there was no need to leak that info because they were getting announced within the next few months of the leak. It's actually strange that the leaker would not have mentioned fleet carriers had it been a genuine breach of trust.

FCs were announced long before the leak. Personally I don't see a point of including them in the leak or even discussing them in the meeting that was leaked...

Offtopic rambling.

Many years ago I took part in a (failed) search for a real one. It got run over a few years later which shut the doubters up, some nutter probably released it from a private menagerie/died and it went over the fence. Which happened quite a few times decades back before they tightened the regulations on keeping big dangerous animals in your garden.

The current theory is they've died out, however this is dependant on them having been spayed/neutered preventing breeding. Which isn't a popular thing for the sort of people who like having a dangerous animal as it reduces the dangerousness so pinch of salt, same reason some people insist on keeping deadly snakes with venom glands intact.

The forest of dean has more than enough wild boar to feed quite a few.

I want to believe.

We knew about Fleet Carriers generally, but they were not officially announced fully with a definite date until August... the leak happened in April.

FD never do what I expect or want.
I'll always have the great 70/30 games to remember, though it seems strange to me they would entertain the idea in the first place.

I'm not sure Frontier always does what they expect and want either.

Yeah but with no details and when it was cut it wasn't stated when they were likely to be implemented. Many people had thought the feature had been scrapped.
There was a meeting that discussed features which will be included in the 2020 release, which was leaked. Why would they discuss FCs in that meeting?
Dunno about your company, but we never discuss things that were already discussed and need only a managerial decision to put it into production.
