[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

I'm quite sure Zac and the CM are now preparing a new statement or Open Letter to the community talking about something like they received the message,

I believe it will go something like....

"Community update 05/11

Following recent community feedback we have heard you.

There are reasons for our communications approach, but your silly little children brains won't understand, and we super try.

Anyway we've passed your comments on to the cleaners magical team that deals with this.

Going forward we'll super try, honest! But also we've done it this way for years and we're getting more money from Planet Zoo so really lulz at this little outburst.

Coming up a stream where Paige flys about for a bit but DON'T YOU DARE ask about something that's not related to flying around!

Thanks Zac,

P.s. see you in 9 months when you all start getting rowdy again"

This is probably one of the most simple and honest ways posted in this thread (imo) to show your dissatisfaction with a product (any product).

As with any SaaS though, people don't want it to get to that point. The feedback is to get it in a better state, now and in the future. We've seen studios and franchises die because of poor handling. We don't want to miss out on content in an IP we love. We aren't in a retail environment anymore, so even if someone did buy the game when it was "Good", future decisions will still impact that title.

The noise wouldn't be made if we didn't love the game and want it to be better. No feedback is worse than bad feedback since no feedback means nobody cares about the IP or game.

One of the most unbalanced things in the game right now is mining. A signature on this petition is a signature for nerfing VO mining. Hopefully they all realise ;)

Or is it a vote to buff other money making methods? With a potentially upcoming credit sink in fleet carriers the balance doesnt have to be a nerf

Actually, plenty of people do NOT want a balanced, dynamic game with plenty of choices and variety. Many LOVE the concept of a simple to follow meta leading to a godship that you can use to crush swarms of NPCs while drunk. For example, to make PvP be even remotely non-stupid ships need to be (bear with me) destructible even if the cmdr flying it would rather keep it in one piece. In other words, there needs to be a fail-state that can be triggered.

But many players dont want a fail-state. They want to grind to a cutter, and then just roflstomp everything else in perfect safety while roleplaying being 'CMDR Awesomesauce'.

Once again we are off the rails here but...
And there are 3 modes just for that reason. People can, and should be able to, play any game they want - it’s what is was sold and bought as - a sandbox for all desires.
I have been here a long time (under other names since the forum changed) and I have seen and read plenty from all sides. The PvE’ers (or those who wish a cooperative Open) normally view the PvP’er with a suspicious eye as the “you will be my content and target” mantra runs heavy in any request it seems. When the famous PR move by the PvP crowd became “we like Power Play and it should be Open only”, while a transparent ruse to force PvP, people were willing to listen. PP is such an end-game nothing. However, a few threads and pages later, it now became “The BGS should be Open only too” and on down the line it went. You have to understand the suspicion of many players when any PvP argument is raised as it seems to benefit only one subset of players. And ultimately drags others, it seems, into gameplay they don’t want which always comes across in some of these “Open Letters.” Sorry for the WoT.
Tldr : Some folks are suspicious of the motives of a vocal minority who have for years here banged their own drum about what the game should be. To benefit them is the part they leave out.

Oh! Me! Me!

Quite simply, because the PvP crowd want buffs and nerfs to various things that the PvE crowd might be quite happy with. For example, why was Force Shell nerfed? Was it because of PvP or PvE? I don't know, but its possible that was because of PvP. I never heard of any PvEer complain about it?

Or other changes due to PvP that were not beneficial for PvE, especially in relation to griefers. Remember when missiles and torps were good? Yeah, thanks to PvP missiles are now a shadow of their former selves and torps are extremely situationally useful.

Also, PvPers had two patches dedicated to PvP balance already, and it appears they are still not satisfied, and you know what, i doubt they ever will be. It will be tweak this, tweak that, as new metas are found, and who will be the voice of these changes? Which self-elected community leaders will FD listen to? And then, FD will implement a new module/upgrade/change and boom everything will go out of whack again, and new demands for changes to handle the new meta will go in.

Perhaps what the game really needs is separate servers, one where they can focus on PvP content and changes and the other where they focus on PvE content. It would also solve the Open Only issue as well.

Those are some good examples. But I don't think "PvPers" are to blame for this (they do seem to get a lot of hate).

It's Frontier's fault for not deciding whether they want a multiplayer or singleplayer game. It tries to do both so there have to be compromises and both sides need to learn to deal with it. Completely neglecting one side won't work.

Actually that lack of clear vision of what Elite actually wants to be is probably also part of this recent community outburst. If Elite didn't try to be a GaS MMO type of game and simply said it was a singleplayer game from the very beginning, people wouldn't ask about weekly updates to keep the community engaged and the majority would be very happy with a couple of updates every year.

Gotta love all the defenders in this thread who somehow think the level of bugs in this, and previous, patch are acceptable. When you’ve got to the point that having a ship kit for the cutter completely breaks the game as you can’t jump, there needs to be more attention paid.

Only if you have a cutter and buy cosmetics, I do neither of those so I'm fine with it.

Make all the noise you want by all means.

But I much rather you just followed the above honest advice I referred to instead of posting that noise in the name of the “community” I am supposed to be part of and requesting signatures in an obscure and non actually traceable site.

Well, who would have thought? A game that is in development and new stuff is added constantly needing more than one balance pass? Outrageous!!!
Just balance at the beginning and then add tons of new modules and weapons, it will work fine, I swear!!!

As mainly a PVEer, I would welcome any balancing. Sure I might face a rebuy or two more when dealing with NPCs as a result, I would put up with that.
FDEV refused to do a balance pass after they reworked engineering by allowing legacy modules in the game, doing nothing against the power creep, that was a missed opportunity.
If the PvP community wants a balance pass, I'm all up for it. After all, the more people playing the game, the better for FDEV and me.

Everyone? Why do you think a balance pass that is beneficial to the "PvP crowd" would necessarily be detrimental to PvE?

Don't you think there's room for improvement there too? How many people use ECM, PDTs, chaff, xeno scanner, etc? Nah, just fill it all up with shield boosters and some HRP for good measure. How many different weapon types are actually being used in PvE?

Do you think making more outfitting options viable to add some diversity would be bad for PvE? Do you think it would be bad if the income from combat, exploration, trading, mining etc would all be in about the same ballpark?

I really don't like this "us vs. them" mentality, doesn't matter if it's between different player groups or players and developers.
For whatever its worth, I think a sweet balance pass would be to get rid of shield cell banks.

Shield health potions are for scrubs
