Opt out of that, just do what's fun.

I've played for over 6000 hours and I've never done any grinding, I've just played the game and had fun. Whilst we are currently going through a blip with regards to bugs at the moment, I can honestly say I've had my money's worth out of this game and this blip won't stop me from continuing to play and enjoying the game.

I'll give you a scenario: You have a new account and want to get into competitive PvP, so you will need:
  • A PvP capable ship (FDL, Chieftain, Mamba, FAS etc)
  • Have a second ship capable of doing all the milk runs and mining that is required to earn credits & unlock engineers, i.e a decent multipurpose ship
  • Lots of credits, you'll need to be able to afford to A rate your PvP ship as well as LOTS of rebuys for it (probably want at least 300 million cr minimum)
  • You need to Engineer, this means you will also need
    • Discover & unlock each of the primary engineers (power, thrusters, distributor, weapons, shields, armour, utitilies, sensors, interdictors)
      • This usually involves acquiring something annoying like rare goods which are quantity capped, or items which are only available as mission rewards such as Modular Terminals
      • Can also involve other activities such as mining, bounty hunting, exploration or simply flying far enough away from your start system (torture for those who do not enjoy exploration)
    • Lots of assorted materials of varying type (and a high quantity of each, at least 40 per mat really)
    • Getting allied with some key factions where key engineers are gated behind system permits (Sirius, Alioth, Sol, Shinrarta Dezhra, Achenar )
      • You will need to run missions for those factions, bounty hunt or trade large amounts of cargo with their controlled stations
    • You will need to grade 5 each engineer... until you do that you spend many more materials per upgrade on each level
    • Move your PvP ship modules around the bubble which can be a chore, especially for things like armour which you cannot put on another ship with higher jump range.
  • You will need to move your PvP ship & modules around the bubble to be in close proximity to the weekly (when their were CGs) player hot-spots
Trying to do all that in a realistic time frame without grinding is impossible, if you didn't you'd lose interest in PvP before you ever got to do any... And I didn't even include navy ranks, powerplay modules or guardian/broker tech.

PVP isn't really my thing as the people who are into it get really super serious about video games and are prone to tantrums about modes and block and such. They are not my idea of fun people.

So I opt out at stage one and have a blast in sidey. No grind required.

Willfully and rather maliciously spreading absolute lies in public, for no reason than you are unhappy about a change in a computer game, is not cool man. :cautious:

No justification was provided, nor has it been, because their is none. Some people just wanted it gone at the expense of those who were not complaining.

The lesson learned here is that the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and so here we are in yet another campaign thread.

Putting those modules back will have no noticeable effect on any player that doesn't fit them, the decision FDev took to remove stuff people were happy with for the sake of placating those who wanted more (not less) four years after game launch was ridiculous, there was no need to remove them.

Well it's interesting you decide to personally attack people because of their chosen playstyle, says more about you then them... anyway back to my point - whether you like it or not is irrelevant. I'm trying to demonstrate why the idea of 'You don't have to grind in Elite to have fun' is a load of nonsense. It only applies if the things you enjoy are not gated by grind.

Also: https://inara.cz/cmdr/14271/ I'd be interested to know how you got all those ships, especially the Vette and Cutter without grinding?

Didn’t expect anything really. Was just remarking how utterly incompatible the terms “1000+ hours played” and “gone off the rail” are.

Odd, I don't see any incompatibility.
If the Game due to various factors goes off the rails, the Players can only observe and comment that condition.
10hrs played or 1000hrs played makes little difference.
Off the rails is off the rails - and it matters little who is onboard the train wreck then.

If anything, seasoned Players will have the empirical comparison before<->after, good memory of existing track record and (likely) multiple cases of Deva-Vu to field in their more detailed arguments and comments.

Now that is said, please hold my beer while I play something else.

PS.
A 4+ years old title from a big publisher who often is said to deliver bugged products - so color me surprised that
  • there's no aggressive in-game advertising or monetization
  • I've in my entire Playtime only ever encountered 2 (in words : two) bugs, one of which is long fixed and the other was of ultra-minor nature
  • I keep smiling about the attention to and love for Detail in that title... the many little things, really loving that
  • despite having clocked in considerable Playtime, there's still tons of new stuff to discover (and not just some "recolored more-of-the-same") that puts up decent challenges

That is absolutely false, and this has been pointed out over and over to you. They explained their reasoning before, and after. You weren't ignored, you are just bitter you didn't get the answer you wanted. Willfully and rather maliciously spreading absolute lies in public, for no reason than you are unhappy about a change in a computer game, is not cool man. :cautious:

And you have a really selective memory of a troll. Nothing he said in that statement was false.

Obviously what happened was they just couldn't justify any further non bugfixing iteration on the feature, whether they were bursting inside to do it or not. You're forgetting 2 important facts:

  • During beta, even people dramatically supporting of the fss were making suggestions to improve it that 1) were incredibly common sense to the feature (showing the spectrum in the hud eg) but frontier did nothing. The sad thing is, many of the supporters suggestions if implemented would have gone a long way to win the skeptics over.
  • By about 100 pages, all sides had got the point across. What came out from that was there's absolutely no in game lore that would prevent reinstalling of an option to target bodies before have been discovered. For hundreds of pages, the only counter argument the whole white knight camp had was max factors claims of inability to imagine things if choice that he didn't have to use was allowed for other people. That was it. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with adding choice, so how could you deny the request?
You need to stop being willfully malicious and spreading absolute lies. Thankyou.

Their resoning was insulting. I was speaking specifically about the reply that was put in the complain thread, you know exactly what im talking about so im not going to go find it. Calling me a liar doesnt change anything.

Just pointing out to those reading this that when you say 'they ignored us' you mean 'they repeatedly wrote lengthy explanations of their considerations and reasons for making the changes'. Which is pretty much the exact opposite of what happened. I leave it to everyone's discretion to determine how you call someone who intentionally claims the opposite of what happens took place just to get a false claim on some desired victimhood status over a change in a computer game.

Anyway: weekend y'all. Time to find the cocktail shaker. 🍸

Neither was justificiation required.

So the gist is "don't make changes I don't like".

And yet people also complain that enough things don't get changed.
