CMDRs now playing for ARX

2 solutions. Or they remove the ability to gain arx through game play, or people ignore it all together. Balancing this would be a hilarious undertaking.

People who are that concerned about missing out on 20p should just go to the nearest supermarket and see if there are some coins under the soda machine.
I mean I agree I have a certain fun in adding to Facta's ARX thread to see the mechanic behind the ARX donations. And I also like to run after exploits, and I already paid 5 € to get operator/black apollo paintjobs for my ships (inofficial Loren's Reapers paints - which I could only get by splitting the packs into single paintjobs ☺). So one could say I'm a bit concerned about ARX gains.

But the above should really really get into all heads. We're talking about ~24 pence, whatever that is in Euros 🤷‍♂️

Can I pay you in high velocity currency? 😜

Yes OP, it does seem wrong to play for ARX.

However we the players didn't introduce ARX, or ask for it to be introduced. That decision was FD's and purely for their own financial benefit, nothing wrong with that they are a commercial organisation trying to make a profit.

I think how that was handled, how we earn ARX in game and how 'in your face' the monetisation appears is up for discussion.

FD were supposed to have released more info on how we can earn ARX in game but for whatever reason that info has been withheld.

Other games use devises like daily missions (dailies), weekly missions (weeklies), and end game content like high level dungeons/instances that take a team of veteran players with plenty of coordination to complete and receive the high end rewards, thus keeping players engaged long term....or not.

I'm not sure any of those really fits into ED, I'd also argue that ARX doesn't really fit either but I'm sure in time I will get used to it.

once you have all plants, all bobble heads and all paint jobs are wasted to zero you will understand,
the only thing reasonable we need is: ............................................................................cockpit litter ...

Indeed, though in my own personal experience the only effect that could possibly lead me to buy ARX so far has been that it has me thinking of cosmetics more often than before. That may be enough, though. Last year the Black Friday paintjobs had me spending a bit more than I planned. This time I may buy a certain amount of ARX and leave it at that. Seems like limited time offers are more of a weak point to me than having some unused currency.

Yes Microtransactions are now front and centre in ED, they will now burrow into the minds of all players....
Snap sales are great at triggering regret and increasing a sense of urgency in players who feel that they must MAXIMIZE VALUE!! or miss out.

For that to work you need to see the sale is on. Normally on Friday I will have a look at the shop to see what is added. This week I thought 'shall I go and log into the game to see what is in the shop?' and the answer so far as been .... nope.

It will be strange for some deep space explorers coming back to sell data in weekly allotments to not lose out on arx, given the weekly arx cap, while they've perhaps been out enjoying the game for months at a time already.

Ironically, it can kind of disincentivize playing the game for the sake of playing the game.

And it was always so. I don't want to know the sales of chrome / red chrome / black friday sales. They were big, and they will continue to be big.
No need for ARX 🤷‍♂️
