When ships turn bad :D

I don't know if I am the only one, or this is a common experience in the game but here is my question:

Have you set your mind on a specific ship, probably even did the cyber build in Coriolis, might have even done some mat hunting for the inevitable engineering only to find out you really don't like flying it for some valid (to you) reason and promptly got rid of it?

For me, this has happened twice. The first was the Keelback, remember thinking this would be a perfect ship for me, still medium pad, but lots of hardpoints and a hangar bay! Thought it would be the proverbial 'ducks guts' I did. Got it, kitted it out, even did some rudimentary engineering then discovered I just didn't enjoy flying it. Every time I strapped my cyber butt to the chair, all I could think of was all the other ships I had could do whatever I was planning on doing better. Ended up selling the entire ship (including all the modules for a loss lol) just to get it out of my fleet!

The second was the Cutter, tried one out during the 3.3 Beta. Always wanted one, to me it looked like a space ship should look like. I like the concept, I liked the way I was going to outfit it, even has a paint job picked out to buy it. The plan was to fly it during the Beta then concentrate (not grind, I don't do that) on getting my rank and buying one for real. I still remember the delight when I finally clicked on the launch button and the subsequent horror and disgust when I found out if handled like doped out cow. I just couldn't understand how a Clipper could be so much fun to fly and the Cutter so damn terrible. But I persevered, flew it for the rest of the Beta and made the decision NEVER AGAIN.

So fellow Commanders, what is that ship or ships that caught your fancy and then let you down terribly?

Basically all ships is like that.
Because the all have there short comings.
I love the looks off the crusader but beside combat there is nothing much you can do whit it do to restricted slots... for exploration the anaconda is the best yet i don't like the looks. Ect... free modules on all ships could make a difference for me.

You should try the Dropship or the Beluga, those are perfect ;)

Type 10. Worst supercruise handling ever.
Such an awesome ship, if not the stats were completely bolloks. The cockpit in VR is breathtaking (as with the other Ts)...
But it's borked beyond redeem for OCD stat junkies like me 😜

Phew, thanks for that. Only yesterday I was tossing up on whether to buy the T9 or the T10, ended up going with the T9 due to more cargo space. I always knew the T9 would be a cow to pilot (and it is lol) but good to know I made a logical decision.

The T9 actually has uses as a heavy hauler, and I like how it flies as one. The T10 as a combat ship is a waste. I only got mine working as an assassination runner full of fixed frags and some collectors at Vesper M4, killing T9s.

I had this experience with the Type-10. I wanted one, I love the looks, it's supposed to be a better version of the Type-9. I bought it, and even without any engineering I liked flying it. Locally.

Then I jumped into Supercruise and I realized it doesn't turn. I can't comprehend why. It's unbearable. I bought the ship two times, sold it immediately both times. I even had a name, colour, role in mind. But it's unenjoyable.

My first experince with the Type 10 went as follows.

Buy it at Jameson

First jump to engineer this thing was that one White Dwarf system right next to Jameson

I try to turn away from the White Dwarf without reducing throttle

Discover in I am not going to avoid this thing at full throttle

Also discover that because of my turn was apparently interperted by the Type 10 as a mild suggestion I am now going to slam into the exclusion zone near the Jet cones.

I manage to make an emergency stop before flying to my doom.

Immediately self destruct because screw this noise.

Sorry for laughing at your predicament but that sounds like my first flight in the Cutter .... only I didn't self destruct, but I did swear more than usual.

I managed to do the same thing in a Cutter at some point much later because the system I jumped to brought you out at a White Dwarf despite me filtering them out of the Gal map. I really hate it when that happens Even the loading screen lied fo me...
Cobra? I'd gank a hundred noobs in Deciat for a centered seat in the FdL. Or pay money. But make it happen!
I never minded the off center seats to be honest.

The offseat in the FdL isn't the problem, the canopy struts are.
Compared to the FdL the Mamba is awesome, but the c3 placements...

So fellow Commanders, what is that ship or ships that caught your fancy and then let you down terribly?

Clipper. I'd seen many posts about how good it was, how fast, etc. I ground my way to Baron, bought one and wasn't overly impressed. I figured it would be better with some engineering, so off I went on the grand engineers tour and it was still cr*p. I can't say exactly why, but I just couldn't get on with it, so it was sold.

Also Anaconda and Clipper. I'd say it's the handling, or because I prefer small ships, but..... I really like the T9.

Keelback, FdL, Mamba, Dolphin

Keelback could be such an interesting ship if it was a lot more maneuverable.
FdL - cockpit view. Spend 5 minutes in it - took off, flew out of the station, returned and sold it. Horrible.
Mamba - not sure, just not the ship for me I guess.
Dolphin - not ging to accept a ship that overheated while making a slight turn over the surface of a 0.01 g moon.

You should try the Dropship or the Beluga, those are perfect ;)

The Beluga has some problems, but it is a nice ship. The Dropship is perfect indeed. :D

Cobra III, its the iconic Elite ship and looks great on paper, but I just don't like the off-centre pilots chair.

Movable chairs is actually a cosmetic I'd pay for.

I agree, centre chair for the Cobra would be epic, but then we would have to talk about the placement of the small hardpoints.

The view is indeed horrible.
