When ships turn bad :D

I fly one, when I need to sweep up space trash (engineering materials). Only use I could find for it, actually does a decent job.
So that's two of us then ;)

It's my mission runner on my new account. But he's an oddball - only flies ships the others avoid 🙃
Can I haz your builds plz?

I like the Asp Scout for it's ARX... ahem... dual thruster rear.
But I didn't start to think what I could do with one. Perhaps you can give me some inspiration?

Thx ☺

I really tried liking the Vulture since I kept reading posts about how great it was supposed to be.

While I've always enjoyed PvE combat, I had skipped it at first, and when I finally decided to get one, engineer it, and try it out it just felt underwhelming compared to my at the time favourite combat ship, the Fer-de Lance. Sure, it handled better, but that was to be expected from a smaller, much lighter ship. But it had heat issues, the power distributer felt anemic, and my canopy seemed to get shattered if my shields went down.

I still have it, parked at Shinrarta Dezhra, engineered to the gills, waiting for the day when I'm ready to give it another chance. Which isn't likely to be anytime soon. I much prefer the Kraits, the FdL, the Mamba, the Chieftain... Hell, even the T-10 is more fun to do combat with, in my humble opinion.

And on the days when I feel like taking out a small ship for some light, fastpaced combat, well the Courier or the Eagles scratch that particular itch so much better.

So there it sits. Gathering dust. The sunk cost fallacy prevents me from selling it. I didn't spend days gathering the engineering materials for its upgrades just to sell it because I don't like flying it...

...Or maybe I did. I mean, it's not like I need the money at this point. Ah, well. It does no harm to just keep it parked for now. Maybe some day...

Great post and so close to what I experienced. Like you, the Vulture was my first 'true' combat ship, I spent ages trying different weapons, playing the loadout to save a couple of measly MW (pre Engineering). For me, the Vulture only came alive after Engineering when I could finally put whatever weapons I wanted on her without having to play magician with the power. Then I got the FdL, hardly used the Vulture after that and if I was being realistic, it would probably be the first ship i would sell if I needed credits (thankfully that is not a situation that will arise). The funny thing is, I recently got a Mamba, and now the FdL is gathering dust, I just like the hardpoint layout on the Mamba, suits the way I fly so much better.

I found the opposite was true for me.

I USED to like the vulture, when the power problems existed, with engineering, it's just any other ship.

It was such fun having to finish a fight in the time I had for life support - or be forced to either suffocate, or retract the hardpoints and run.

With a midly engineered powerplant, all of that is gone :(

Damn you must be a damn sight better pilot than me, I still managed to lose my cockpit even after engineering. I swear, every cockpit I had installed on the Phoenix Hunter (err my Vulture) must have either been made on a Monday after a long weekend or a Friday before one … ;)

This is Sandpit Turtle. As it's a noob account a lot of the engineering is low level stuff. It's not the fastest/strongest/biggest, but it's good enough for a low level mission runner.

Compared to a similar spec Cobra III it's slower and more expensive, but has better Armour, Shields, Agility, Cargo and jump range.

With no engineering, 4 collector limpets and an SRV bay, this is the best little trash collector in my fleet.
Mining lasers if elements are on the shopping list, a pair of multi-cannons just in case, but don't plan on taking it into a fight, it's not a fighter, it's trash collector. I've probably shot down less than half a dozen annoying pirates sifting through the same leftovers as I, in smaller ships. Anything bigger, and I grab-and-go.

Basically all ships is like that.
Because the all have there short comings.
I love the looks off the crusader but beside combat there is nothing much you can do whit it do to restricted slots... for exploration the anaconda is the best yet i don't like the looks. Ect... free modules on all ships could make a difference for me.
Maybe I'm becoming senile but what is a crusader?

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting ;)

To the first question, there have been 2. The first was a Type 7 that I kitted for mining after traveling to Colonia (before the mining update). I remember kitting it out, struggling to mine (no clue what I was doing back then), and then i got interdicted and blown up by an NPC pirate lol. Respawned and immediately stripped/sold the mongrel. Never considered getting another one, as by the time I sorted myself out, I can afford better than the T7.

The other is the Vulture. I like the way it looks, but I can just never find a use for it. I think it mostly boils down to the fact that i just do not like small ships for combat. I pretty much only use them for flying super fast, so there are better options. Ive bought and sold 3-4 of them by this point.

Okay, to expand this great discussion a bit further:

Is there a ship that you would not even contemplate purchasing? No matter how good others praise it, how seemingly perfect it is, you just would not/can not bring yourself to drop a few credits for it?

For this, the Cobra, dolphin, and both Asps. I think they are so ugly I would never use them. Courier and Cutter used to be in that group, but the ship kits look great, especially the "mandible" type bits to put on the front.

For me it was the T-10 for reasons stated by others.

There are a number of ships I've bought and sold because they didn't do it for me. I have an iCutter but I've bought and sold them multiple times. The Corvette also isn't all that, meaning it's not as cool as I thought it would be.

In fact, there are more ships that "let me down" than those who haven't. The Vulture never let me down. It doesn't ram well, but it's a fun ship to fly and packs quite a punch, and only a few builds can top the view and sound. I like the iCourier's conical nose and cockpit view, and the tritium looking night sight there on the nose. The T6 is a pleasure to fly and own. I was never a big fan of the iClipper. I liked the handling and speed, and it has a good loadout for a med pad ship, but like the Cutter it feels too Star Trekish to me. The imperial ships are very polished, and for a roughneck who makes his living in the rocks or fighting, it's not my first choice if I could only fly one ship. I currently fly the Cutter because it can move a lot of stuff and gets decent jump range but for all out "never disappointed" ships, the Python takes the cake.

Both diamond backs. I thought I would like them, and I had a use for them, then FD obliterated cold running missions, they became irrelevant after that.

some more ships...
I rejected the Vulture before the ships kit, it was purely for the looks, I couldn't stand it.

Imperial Courier, I do not like to fly, I do not like how the canopy is rounded, it is a great small ship, that should not be underestimated, but I rather fly my Vulture with the ship kit and let my friend fly the Imperial Courier.

There are so many ships I have tried todo stuff with that now are just sitting in the hangar, waiting for something todo....as I tend to fly other ships instead.

There are many ship that simply have meh feeling, sadly I wish the ships had more of their own character, and differed between each other in more things, like what default UI they come with etc. Give us more things to get annoyed with when picking a ship to fly...
