The ADS

Perhaps, but they would then have the option to do that, which is the point for me. I think a similar argument could be made against engineering, in that all it really is is inflation. I haven't seen too many people say they don't engineer anything, for example :) However, the choice is there to engineer or not, if one wishes.

I may strongly dislike the ADS, but I positively despise Engineering.

Still have six thousand G5 rolls, because it's not even close to optional if I want my CMDR to be able to interact with others on even footing.

Not on any system that gets more than about 30 fps.

Marginal UI load time is still slower than staying in the same UI.

It was two tons. That barely puts a dent in the proportion of accessible systems for most ships.

Marginally heavier is marginally less jump range, which adds up over long enough trips.

I strongly dislike the ADS, but I always took one for exploration, and were it reintroduced, I'd take it on any ship I built for the purpose of exploring and most of my multi-purpose vessels...because it would add significant utility with virtually no trade offs for those vessels.

You can't pick and choose which marginal gains count ;)

But yes, the ADS certainly does have significant utility that the FSS doesn't provide which is why we want it back.
The most significant being that it facilitates a top-down, informed decision driven, SC flight oriented system exploration method that I enjoyed a great deal.
I don't enjoy the mandatory bottom-up FSS approach to system discovery at all even though there is significant utility in the body scans.

It's pointless to argue with ADS crew.
They have hundreds of pages of experience. It does not matter that the same 1-2 arguments are posted 10 times per page, it is still experience

Makes me wonder why you ask, cause that's already the case for virtually every system in the bubble, with very few exceptions. Never tried that? Are you still playing the game? To check this out, all it needs is a system that already has been scanned (+ data sold and registered), but not by you. There you get your instant local map, target the body from here (or from left hand nav panel), then point your ship to this direction and enter the FSS screen. Almost instant hit will be the result, just need to zoom in a few levels at worst.

I haven't played since using the FSS in the 3.3 Beta - it ruined the game for me.

What you describe is exactly how I would selectively use the FSS on bodies of interest in the System Map.

But that is not what Morbad described - he explicitly ruled out turning the ship in SC.
We both agree that SC turning is significantly slower than FSS panning.

In which case, I can understand your point of view!

All I want fundamentally is the game play back that I had bought and enjoyed. Having an ADS that just gave the sysmap and unexplored targets list would do that, and would in all likelyhood get ignored by people that like using the FSS, because the FSS game loop to get the rewards is a magnitude quicker. So I don't really see why both couldn't co-exist peacfully and usefully.

It's often faster than finding a target in the FSS if I picked the wrong direction to rotate the scanner view.

Maybe in a race, but you're not going to scan fewer systems.

The ones that don't affect exploration efficiency clearly do not count in this context.

I don't disagree with any of that.

If it was a seperate module I wouldn't mind. But not something that is included as it would destroy exploration for me. I explore in different ways and adding that would destroy one of the ways I play.
