Who says you can't have fun with the Type-10

aka the Type-10 Defender appreciation topic :D

Bought mine a while ago to do core mining, disregarding all the nay sayers. Of course it was too sluggish for the job, not to mention the hardpoint placement, which is far from optimal. So I put an end to that and fitted it for trading instead. But I'm not fan of trading and soon found myself covering it with tarps somewhere in the damp depths of Robardin Rock, thinking purchasing it was a mistake and went on to do other stuff. Then one day I had an epiphany, what if I turned the hunk of steel into an exploration ship? It can hold two SRV's and two SLF's. With the fighters onboard it doesn't matter if it's sluggish. I could leave the ship in the air and go check surface POI's in one of the fighters.

And that is exactly what I did. Been exploring with the Type-10 since and it's growing on me more and more each day. Sure it's slow and turns like a snail but it isn't too much of an issue when exploring. And as long as you plan your manoeuvres a little bit ahead, it's all good. And with landing gears far and wide it seems to be far less picky about suitable landing spots. You just take 'er down, drop the gear and bam, landed. No more that 'unsuitable terrain' garbage. I've also noticed it seems to run really cold. Like when refueling or just sitting under a star FSS'ing a system, the heat levels barely break 50%. Some of the other ships would've been cooking, if not already overcooked, at that point.

Also, I find it fun to throw it around in ravines/canyons. I mean, it has a huge rear wing so surely it's a sports ship and needs to be flown like one.

Anyway, who else is flying the Type-10? Share the stories and share the love (if there is any)!

I hope you mean a T10, because the T9 is severly lacking for mining due to the C6 distributor.
Even my Cutter with a c7 g5 charge enhanced can't power 4 mining lasers enough to do an asteroid in one go.
I so wished the T10 had a c8 distro.

I flew my T10 from the bubble to Explorers Anchorage for the CG -fully equipped for both types of mining and with 256 Limpets (not knowing how EA would be outfitted), did a lot of mining for the week then flew back minus the mining kit but including SRV's...

It made a fine exploration ship, as @HAMM3R observed, if the terrain wasn't flat enough to start with, the T10 just crushed rocks to get comfortable...

Tanked T10 in HRES, or combat zone.
Never sure which to take out of the hanger, the T10( Shadow Caster) or the Anaconda(Longstrider).
Love both the T10 and the T9.
Once had a tanked T9(well before the T10) and loved it.
You can get a fair jump range with the T class.
Would recommend it to anyone.

For me it was between the T-10 and the Beluga for my long range exploration ship. I went with the Beluga and used the T-10 for most of the Engineering grind. After buckyballing both to Colonia I knew I made the right choice. The T-10 is still one of my favorite ships in Elite, there is something special about it.
My Mining Cutter has 3 lasers on the under chin hardpoints, perfect for fast and close up mining, plus 576t makes for a round 500mil of painite.

That guy ---> says you can't have fun in a Type-10, but he also says there a little creatures living under his bed, telling him to eat shoelaces too, so take what you want from that.

I own two Type-10's, though I've not dusted either of them off in quite a while, but when I want to run around like a bull in china shop in Haz Res, it's a great ship to do it in.

If you put Weapon Focused G5 with Super Conduits on the 7A PD you can fire 4 mining lasers for 32 seconds with 4 pips to weapons - which is enough to drain any asteroid in one go :) . That’s what I am using with great success. Charge Enhanced G5 with Super Conduits as yours can only fire them for 19 seconds. It’s certainly worth the upgrade. You’ll be able to fill the cargo racks quite a bit faster, and when you do many trips it adds up.

And OP - noone in their right mind say that you can’t have fun in a T10! A very nice ship. I haven’t used one for exploring yet, but I am going to.

This is my “Golden Eye”:

I love my T-10. I got my first 4 Cyclops solo kills in that big ol’ clunker. Don’t use it as much as I’d like these days, but I wouldn’t sell it for anything.

I should also mention, adding to the coolness factor is the fact that it looks like Cthulhu (sans tentacles).

Nice shot. Looks like that scene from the end of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I also mine in a T-10

I love dusting off my Type-10 and taking it for a spin sometimes. It's slow and ponderous and getting all its guns to fire at one target is nigh impossible.

But it's fun to let my almost elite npc pilot take over while I have a go in one of the slfs. I mean I could do the same in any of other slf capable ships, sure. But the T-10 just looks absolutely brutal when it unleashes all its guns at once.

Haven't tried mine in combat yet. Although without any meaningful engineering I fear it'd be just a brutal looking cardboard box

Maybe I'll return to the Bubble one day and unlock all the engineers.

Took me so long to get over how poorly detailed the front grills are via head look, but it’s my main now. Ship kit is a must, use a dark paint job.

It’s the next best thing to the type9 actually being multipurpose. Amazing ship. Recommend turrets. From the inside it’s a type 9.

Yeah there’s not much more to having a grouse life in elite.

Yep - and with the ship kit you’ll be able to put a SPOILER on a SPOILER :D . Personally I couldn’t resist that.
