aka the Type-10 Defender appreciation topic
Bought mine a while ago to do core mining, disregarding all the nay sayers. Of course it was too sluggish for the job, not to mention the hardpoint placement, which is far from optimal. So I put an end to that and fitted it for trading instead. But I'm not fan of trading and soon found myself covering it with tarps somewhere in the damp depths of Robardin Rock, thinking purchasing it was a mistake and went on to do other stuff. Then one day I had an epiphany, what if I turned the hunk of steel into an exploration ship? It can hold two SRV's and two SLF's. With the fighters onboard it doesn't matter if it's sluggish. I could leave the ship in the air and go check surface POI's in one of the fighters.
And that is exactly what I did. Been exploring with the Type-10 since and it's growing on me more and more each day. Sure it's slow and turns like a snail but it isn't too much of an issue when exploring. And as long as you plan your manoeuvres a little bit ahead, it's all good. And with landing gears far and wide it seems to be far less picky about suitable landing spots. You just take 'er down, drop the gear and bam, landed. No more that 'unsuitable terrain' garbage. I've also noticed it seems to run really cold. Like when refueling or just sitting under a star FSS'ing a system, the heat levels barely break 50%. Some of the other ships would've been cooking, if not already overcooked, at that point.
Also, I find it fun to throw it around in ravines/canyons. I mean, it has a huge rear wing so surely it's a sports ship and needs to be flown like one.
Anyway, who else is flying the Type-10? Share the stories and share the love (if there is any)!
