Failure to Report has announed a future SC event

And I will probably try to attend this (watching...not playing) because this really interests me. Can you have a good time and what does the game has to offer when NOT presented by a shill or obviously paid individual. Any of our own players interested in participating?

Chances are the stream will only outline how bad everything is despite the attendees having fun. But if FTRs stream can show genuine fun and gameloops that look engaging then I m willing to accept that....specifically because he is a "hater". Thats why I believe Mole and disregard similar reports from other people on this forum :) The source is important ^^

Sounds like it might be worth watching.

Playing?
Fooling around could be, but actually playing it as if it was a game already?
I play SC exactly the same as I play ED to be perfectly fair. A bit of cargo shuffling, a bit of bounty hunting and doing mission board missions. It's a bit of stretch to suggest there's absolutely nothing to do...and simply untrue...considering there's a lot of folks doing it every night. Don't be swayed by the popular YouTube nonsense from the likes of RexZilla...that's Org stuff and very different from day to day doing what's there for the average backer.

There certainly aren't many completed gameplay loops or career paths, no exploration or salvage, repair or refuelling, too many things are broken or incomplete but some things do work and work quite well considering. The main complaints I have: (there are way too many to list)
(a) No persistence
(b) Too many of the flyable ships have no associated gameplay loops added to the project.
(c) Ever increasing feature creep but no added gameplay.
(d) Wasting development time on pointless new ship additions when the ones already there aren't complete, have no realistic in game purpose or are broken.
(e) Too many of the lower tier ships are purely combat oriented.
Like I said, there's a lot more...but these are the main ones from someone who regularly plays what's there rather than from some paid YouTube streamer or the common or garden Ci¬G sponsored shill. I'm not here to either promote or defend SC, simply to give it a fair...and sometimes brutal appraisal. If it's there and it's crap, I'll say so ;)

Yeah, its where my interest lies as someone who mainly plays solo in online games. I rarely have the ability to get involved in any group shennanigans unless those group things can largely be done solo.

So i need to know what is there for me as mainly a solo player.

So, when i ask questions like that on the SC sub, and get told i should be in an Org, being in an Org is the solution to all woes, that the game design means you need to be in an Org, that kind of puts me off.

I’m mainly a solo player, but, I’ve met 34 people in SC that I will join up with if I want. Many of them are Elite Players as well. So it’s fun to join them.

As for solo, you can do anything you want: trade, bounty hunt, investigate missions, missing crew, now missing people in caves and FPS missions.

Last night I did some bounty hunting, I don’t like the 325a, I self destructed it! Got my Titan and did some more. I got the 325a as an AC loaner for my 600i.
After doing a few of those missions, I did some FPS missions, 2 to be exact.

Then took a cave mission, because I wanted to mine. Made 10K mining.

Almost 3 hours later, I was finally done.

Oh the famous SC Orgs :) Remember the days when they had jpeg waving parties and endless declarations of “we have more Idrises than you and will control X systems and make you pay tolls!”

I play the majority of my time as a solo player where my player interaction consists of typing in the chat whilst I go doing what I do...most of the time my only contact with other players is at my starting port seeing folks sprinting about doing something or other or the odd random player who happens to be filling up or dropping off cargo where I happen to be. Even then it's normally a quick o7 in the chat or a wave emote as we pass between our ships and the buildings with the terminals. I don't really do PvP unless I'm specifically asked..and that happens more often rather than being randomly ganked all the time.

It happens of course but usually outside of Olisar where players congregate or free fire areas like Grim Hex or Kareah. PvP players can now legitimately claim bounties on other players with a crime stat, the missions appear on the mission list...the same as some missions generating counter missions in the mission list offering possibilities for genuine PvP encounters.

Once the server gets quieter late on is where random non Org folks of a like minded approach tend to get together to do something...it could be anything from heading out to rescue a stranded player, sightseeing around some of the planetary easter eggs and wrecks, a bit of cave exploration since it can be a right old hoot to doing some friendly co-op NPC bounty hunting...lending ships for someone who would like to upgrade but doesn't really know what to, a kind of try before you buy thing quite common in SC.

It's a good mix for me considering I preferred solo play or Mobius to the chaos of open in ED.

And how do you think things will change if CIG ever manage to get hundreds of people on the same server?

Yeah, thing is, even if i did buy into SC, it would be at minimum pledge level, so a lot of those things you can wax lyrical about, would be out of my reach.

Actually you can do almost all of that with a Mustang Alpha. I don’t know if you can do trade or box delivery missions. Minus that, you can do it all.

Also in 3.7, you can now rent ships. So you can rent a trade ship for the 3.7 build.

I'm not sure that's an issue - having a huge grind-wall to get the big ships would be a nice change of pace from ED, where you can get anything pretty fast. Having more cheap ships being played might be fun. Of course until you have persistence you can't even have a grind-wall, so it's all pretty hypothetical.

I can actually imagine this all changing after launch anyway - once CiGs main revenue stream comes from new players rather than existing whales I can see the ships becoming much more available via in-game progression to keep the new sign-ups rolling in. Game becomes P2GAHS (Pay 2 get a head start :) )

For minimal money out of pocket, with the ability to do everything except ship mining, I would do the $75 Titan package.

It’s a great all around ship. Think Cobra MKIII. It can bounty hunt, it has 8 cargo for trading, can do delivery missions, it has a ramp so you can buy a gold cart in game and cruise around on that. You can always get the gear for FPS, mining and missing crew missions.

Edit: I would not spend more than that, unless you get the SC bug like me.

I went mustang, 315P, 325a, Cutlass Black (Python), to 600i (I love the ship, it does everything I want). But, in that process, I ended up with two ships, as I bought the Arrow with LTI and upgraded it to the 600i. Thus, I upgraded my mustangs to the Titan.

This leaves me with the Titan and 600i. But, with the 600i I get a 325a for AC and a cyclone for a rover.

I’ve spent about $650 thus far in the game. It’s a lot of money, but, I could have done it all with a Titan for $75.

It's plainly not true. SC is mostly a solo game at the moment, with coop play being under developed (they did implement mission sharing in 3.7 but see FTR take on it, he's right), or not at all.
In games like Infinity Battlescape or World of Warships you do benefit greatly from being in a group, and that becomes mandatory if you want to play as more than a practice target.. In SC the server population cap is so low, that unless the server just rebooted and everyone is back at Olisar or one of the planets, you wont actually see many other players if at all. You'll be interdicted nonstop by all kinds of NPC though: authorities ramming your ship and raising your criminal status as a result, pirates shooting you out of nowhere, and other annoyances.
The Mantis interdiction radius is comically small compared to the distances involved so you'll probably never encounter any.

As for things to do:
  • trade: okay-ish if you like space trucking with an artificial economy. Locations produce a set amount of goods periodically, the prices wont move, there is no production chain.. you'll have to wait for the set timer to replenish the goods, multiple times if you have a larger capacity cargo. Only challenge there would be landing the huge unwieldy cargo ships but they took off that part and it's back to the mostly non-existing flight model.
  • bounty hunting: can be alright if you find those pop-up missions and get there in time and the game doesnt glitch out and disappear your target and doesnt glitch out again when you kill it and servers dont crash in between and you dont waste too much time getting interdicted. Then it's pewpew time for a bit, with what amounts to be a space turret. I tried to do them but was at a financial loss in the end due to no repair, no refuel, and broken mission rewards..
  • investigate missions, missing crew, now missing people in caves and FPS missions: these are a mix of broken, overcrowded, and under paid. GL getting around the physics glitches and various crashes... on those fetch missions, actually getting the reward may or may not work depending on the CiG server weather. Most other missions wont work at all most of the time.
  • outfitting you and your ship: surprisingly this is becoming alright. You might want websites resources so you know where to find what, but there are a few valid options now. It's kinda OK walking around and finding pieces for your ship, then going for a flight and test them on a pirate target (see: bounty hunting).
  • space taxi services: the most interesting times i had in this, carrying other players around and chatting a bit. The in-game VOIP is also quite well done for a change.
