End of Hellion game developement

Not a best news today regarding space games, the very promising Hellion space game is pretty much done now:

Damn. Didnt see that coming.. :(

Really bad and sad news. One can only hope that ZG will sell the source code to someone who could finish the job, as there's still huge potential in Hellion.
I havent played it for a while as i was waiting for the next big update and that ZG would fix the bugs, but it seems no need to wait anymore.

The positive in this is i guess, that now i can finally build my base without fear of server wipe.. :D

Damn shame.

Yup, pretty sad. Maybe somewhere along the line some publishing group with an eye for development can inject a bit of capital...you never know.

I must admit I did see that one coming. Just by looking at the steam concurrency numbers from time to time the writing was on the wall. It is a big shame though, what they were able to achieve is nothing short of amazing.

Hellion grew, got better, but is still far from the original idea of what Hellion was meant to be. Factions, additional ships, trade posts, all of this was simply put aside since our team was constantly fighting technical issues, some of which were simply impossible to be solved for good

Looking at you Star Citizen.

Ye, followed it losely. The survival aspect with player adversaries dint convince me at all initially. They shifted the design from there I believe but it remained rather under the radar. I say it became more interesting to me lately, but such is the risk of developing. Hard to find the sweet spot in demand and time it right with the design.

It's a shame this game went south, it had promise... I fear Empyrion Galactic Survival, that started off years ago as "the nicer version of No Mans Sky", seems to be going the same way, after a great start development almost grinded to a halt...

On the positive side also, there's really strong "lets save Hellion!" vibe going on in Hellion Discord and people are looking for solutions to keep the game going. :)
One of the reasons why Hellion didnt succeed to draw players, is probably its steep learning curve and surviving is quite hard for the first time player.
Also, i didnt see a single "free weekend" on Steam for the whole time, that might have helped also. Or then perhaps not..

I should start a new game now, as theres no wipes coming in the near future and i can build my base in peace. :)

"For sale: failed game project in hardcore survival genre (code, assets, moderately enthusiastic customer base, maybe even documentation). 3.50 or highest offer."

I do hope somebody will pick this up. I had no idea that they had such a small player base. I only mess around in SP for a brief time but the game feels and looks very competent.

I played Fractured Space - its playerbase was in the low hundreds, yet it found quite the solid core followers. They just were getting really good at it and it was a real challenge fighting them. It made matchmaking a nightmare - little you can do to try and balance skill with such small numbers. They tried with additional coop. Bots. Reworks. Collectibles. But it just wasnt enough. The game was good, but in the end it was kinda niche and there's a lot of MP games competing for player time. Even with its quite decent playerbase in terms of attitude players just wouldnt stick.

Steam Numbers Don't Count! :)

Speaking of, where does one find these Steam numbers? I'm on Steam, so it's probably right under my nose. I'm interested because Infinity Battlescape keeps taunting me to buy it, but I want to watch the numbers for awhile first.

Damn Shame.... When I game launched i thought mechanically it seemed great but was not interested in the PvP nature of it. Since then apparently a single player part was started to be added but I didn't notice that.
