(I find) PvP is boring...

Did he call you at home? Send an e-mail to your private address? Look up your IP address and figure your ISP out?

And did he contact you out of the blue? Or did you spam the bot with non-compliant commands that caused it to give out error messages on the server side?

Well he looked me up on discord because we'd never had a conversation before based on about 5 input commands I entered over the space of about 10 minutes... if that's considered spamming in EDR then he must have his work cut out messaging nearly every user.

Also the errors were probably generated because I got the syntax wrong maybe one or two times... obviously hax.

All of those channels you see are text channels, there is no intrusive voice...you are not required to join a voice channel, in fact I find people who are always in the voice channels a bit weird ;) The only voice channel visible in that shot is the bar phone.
Mighty lot of applications, registrations, and requirements I see hidden under the red text. I think it was easier for me to join the real Navy that it would be to join your squadron, LOL. As a typically lone-wolf player who is interested in occasional but consistently available, meaningful PvP, I still don't think this is the answer for me. I'm still holding out for a PvP-friendly CG (combat zones, pirates vs. bounty hunters, etc).

Not that I don't appreciate your tenacity :)

Any attempt to create a reliable, meaningful PvP feature in this game gets shot down by the segment of the community who doesn't want Fdev to spend any time or resources on anything purely PvP focused. So all we end up with is e-peen 1v1/wing fights and ganking... (with occasional piracy or CZ fights).

This is where we are, I don't expect it to change either. Fdev do not have the courage to go against the anti-PvP voices..

With all the paranoia generated around the tool (obviously tin foil hattery), it's understandable under the circumstances wouldn't you say?

Dude...please...more misunderstandings, why do you assume SO MUCH!!!?

ONE registration that any serious Elite player will have already done, the biggest third party ED site on the web, Inara. Come on!!

We have a war starting today (in 15 minutes to be exact!!), that will have mostly pve CZs with a light smattering of pvp (inside said CZs, we expect to encounter enemy commanders, the last time we won this war, we did). It's an important one as well, stopping a nutbag theocracy making further inroads toward earth. Once again, I have EXACTLY what you want, but you refuse to take the offering!!! I'm done, honestly. Here is my last attempt, a screenshot of the current BGS ops channel...

This occurred last year before EDR got a bad reputation.. actually it was probably one of the incidents that made people suspicious.

The only reason I got interrogated by the dev is because I'm part of an outlaw group he doesn't like, not because of what I was doing with his app. What's the first thing users do when they install an app like EDR? They do lookups... He made his app look like spyware by contacting me immediately like that, I'd barely started using it.

I used discord entirely for text chat when playing Fractured Space (defunct now I think). I use it to text chat with people in another group. I get notified when some guy develops a new Mass Effect 3 mod.
Nothing advanced like botted stuff pulling logs. Just text chat.
And sometimes I talk to friends by voice or squeal in dismay when playing Vermintide 2.
Discord is pretty flexible. It's basically like Teamspeak with better accessibility.

So, wait, you're saying it's suspicious that the dev would contact a known outlaw (we all know exactly who you are, lol), when he starts running database queries using a LAWFUL tool? Riiiiight, that's super suspicious. :D

Also, EDR only has a bad name amongst those with an extremely poor understanding of such things.

Tbh, I wouldn't want to sign up with Inara neither just to do stuff with players.

Shippy was using it for a while before me without any issues, and he has a much higher profile... I use it for 10 minutes, miss a couple of apostrophes out and wham, discord salt telling me to stop what I'm doing.

All I'm saying to people is be careful what you install... GitHub is a bit of a wilderness and you cannot guarantee the professionalism of app creators (especially in a gaming community that has its fair share of salty weirdos).

Sure, my joining requirements are what they are for myriad reasons, if they are too much for someone, that is their issue not mine. The registration I require is not even specific to my squadron, it's general registration to an important site for any elite player, so my requirements are hardly excessive, 90% of joiners already had inara profiles.

Well I have to say, I am curious what you were doing myself. I've never run a single command query... As for github being a wilderness, come off it, the code is there for you to read, it couldn't BE more transparent.

I can tell you, I looked up myself and about 4 other players in my faction to see what they had on us... the first couple of queries I messed up because I didn't surround the names with apostrophes. That was literally it.

Yeh, I can see why that would set off alarm bells, it's equivalent to console access. I've never done that. And if I did I wouldn't be surprised to be asked what I was trying to do. The bot is for processing queries and that is by application and approval only. He probably just happened to be reading the logs or watching activity at the time. As you say this was a long time ago, the tool and the attitudes have all matured since then.

But doing manual lookups is (or was) a feature of the tool.., not something hacky that I wasn't supposed to be doing. Users aren't to know its triggering alerts at the developers end when you make slight syntax mistakes, and shouldn't be hassled for it.

That program has always struck me as pretty suspicious.

Who's the dev? I thought it was LeKeno, but not sure about that

One thing that third party apps do on Inara is sniff out alts and serve them up to squadron admins... Not sure which app is doing it but that's an example of abuse of power that players need to be aware of.

Like I said, be careful folks.

It is lekeno, and nobody else. There is nothing fishy about it Jason, I promise. You know me, if there was ANY negative connotation, I wouldn't be using it. The bot is another matter, that's down to discord owners to set it up right. There was a huge hoo-ha about it scraping discord channels, during the famous leak from the Citadel, a screenshot keeps doing the rounds where lekeno is discussing with SPEAR reps what it can and can't scrape, taken totally out of context. The point there is that if set up properly it can't snoop your discords, and the instructions to prevent it doing so are included with the account. It is no different from any other bot in that respect (and I know some other bots in outlaw discords that are truly scary, so EDR is hardly worth your concern). Plus ALL the source code is available for ANYONE to review.

Be careful of what? Of it spotting your alts and telling people who you really are? lol. Yeh, be careful of that. Inara itself is doing that, no other software needed, it's why I require all my members to sign up at inara.

Stop the witch hunt man, it's really sad. It reads the player journal, it collates and autoposts data through a bot. There is nothing 'tricky' about it.

I know him, too, and I regard him with a healthy degree of skepticism when it comes to this program. I think he has a dreadful attitude concerning this aspect of the game (he genuinely believes PvPers are "bad people in rl" based on their game play preferences) and I wouldn't put anything past him in this regard. I heavily lean towards Lateralus's viewpoint here.
