My worry with this is they spend 12 months putting in fixes and then inevitably totally destablise everything with the new release. Inadvertently lose some of the fixes because they are on a different branch and we go around again.

Meanwhile we go 12 months with zero content added.

I would suggest a number of what I think might be small changes, but might encourage more people into open and playing CQC, whilst at the same time generating some interest in the game while we wait impatiently for content.

CQC - increase financial rewards by a factor of 1000.

Until the new Era is out. Players in open with a clean rank killed in a none anarchy system, get a full discount on their rebuy and compensation for any cargo.

CQC.

Really?

Thinking about it a bit more, if the new era is a complete overhaul as we all thought then surely there would be no point in spending a year bug fixing a game your are essentially planning to replace?

So this either means (to me at least) that:

A. The new era isnt as big as we expect
B. This is an excuse to delay fleet carriers wrapped in a "its all for you guys" message
C. Theyve realised the games code is a real mess and are panicking ahead of the new era

Either way surely at this point no one still has faith fdev will actually deliver anything meaningful right?

I wonder how much of the development work has been done for Fleet Carriers? Its coming to the end of October now, and they were due for release by the end of December, so.....what? 75%? 90% done? Remember that work started on this for an initial release of December 2018 as part of Beyond Chapter 4, and Carriers were first announced way back at Frontier Expo in 2017.

Now, less than 2 months away from release, 1 month after the promotional video, and maybe 30% more development work away from being complete (c'mon, they must have closing in on the finish line for a December release), its delayed again for up to 6 months?

Blimey.......who needs new content for 18 months anyway? Oh wait, we got Arx!

D. Fleet Carriers will be rolled into the New Era code.

But yes, you are about on target with A or C, I think.

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.

do they not have overtime in the UK?

What have they sad about the new era that would make anyone believe its a huge deal anyway?
All they said its the biggest update yet (not hard) and they are very excited about it.

To me, that literally means nothing based on my experiences with FD over the last 5 years.

So many unanswered questions in the Fleet Carriers threads, which FD were reading avidly. I sensed they were taking the ideas on board and didn't appreciate how game-changing they were going to be until the community came up with so many ideas and 'what-ifs.'

But they could have cloaked this with "We decided that, since the cost of the Fleet Carriers was going to be so high, you would need more time to accrue credits." :D

They never said fleet carriers are the top priority, just that they have a new priority. That can either be priority 50/100 or 1/100.
Yes, they did and in more publications, I only found that one.

Ice planets and Fc are our priorities, you can't change those words ,however we only receive one in-game store. You're just lying to yourself

The truth is that frontier can be proud of some of their players, they are even able to analyze words that clearly say what they say.
I've never seen this in my life, really, it looks like a horror movie.

yea thats over now, too mutch lie, too mutch false promise, to mutch delay after delay of the delay

all that actions drive the community in toxity and that won´t help

They are trying to prove the game really need fixing.
Just got 2 yelllow Adder and a Scarlet Krait disconnects while mining... boo

Snap. Been in the ring for about 20 minutes, spent 15 of them boosting away from pirates and have blown 21 collector limpets to pick up about six fragments so far. Highly irritating.

Wasn't the Beyond set of update supposed to fix ongoing issues? All Fdev fluff ....Proof of Maintenance mode. This time next year Multi-Crew will still be borked. How long have we waited for atmospherics? Beyond was supposed to placate the gamers until the next paid content. What a joke ED has become.. ED was the CPR Frontier needed to become a working company again, only to be cast aside & forgotten.

haha!
10-season passes (4-big updates every year), for 10 years?
2020-2014= 6 years/6-season passes
So what....?

P.S.: Wasn't the Beyond set of update supposed to fix ongoing issues? !!!! YES!

Here is an even more frightening thought. The code that will be "new era" was forked a year ago. All of the bugs that they are delaying new content for will be brought back because none of the fixes will be added back in.

Us players are always waiting for new stuff in E: D, but to have a playable and enjoyable game with as few bugs as possible is also very important. Personally i appreciate your understandably difficult decision to delay an opportunity for immediate profit for a chance to refine your product. I've faced a few annoyances lately (both serious and minor) and i'd indeed like to see them resolved before releasing new features which will introduce new bugs (as it always happens in all software).

Thanks for it.
