Thanks for the update. I am still a fanboy of this timestuck... Even with issues I still find ways to have fun and that I do. Keep the fixes coming and smoketest the hell out of any patches.

I think this is great news! Given that xbox players have experienced significant issues, will Xbox One be part of the beta program?
I've not been able to get horizons to load since September....
Thanks

Then something is wrong with your setup, I'm on Xbox and have no such issues.

I would more believe that they have shut down the current branch and moved everyone to "new era". We will see a slip again in 6 months with a "we will just roll it in to the expansion" message.
This is my interpretation, and I think this will happen. In the end, it will be seen as for the best, but it will be painful for everyone reaching that point, which I see as inevitable.

awesomely true☮
You are obviously from Awesometown.

Forum has been blowing up for months about bugs and to fix the bugs. Devs say sounds good, we start fixing code now and delay an optional feature.

The only people who can afford or want Fleet Carriers are the for billions of credits to purchase said carriers.

Kudos to FD for even speaking to us after the miriad ways we malign and denigrate them.

Thanks Cmdr Wilbur 🖖

I’ll have you know that I am losing weight and have never exploited anything for credits

ah okay so the are not able to release content they delayed last year, cause the need all the power for bugfixes they didn´t fix last 2 years.

Thats almost what you said last year.

thats enough cu elite enjoy, im done
Out of morbid curiosity, which star kissed universe are you heading towards now that you're done with ED? Star Citizen? NMS? Space Engineers? etc

Can I say that we have to be careful here. We want to know what updates are coming but that always comes with the chance things may have to be delayed. I am grateful that Frontier had lets us know about the new carriers being released, the the estimated time of this year. Now things have happened and it is being deferred. Sure it is disappointing to have it delayed but I want to thank Frontier for letting us know an keep us in the loop.

We can't have it both ways, we can't whinge that we aren't told about up-coming additions, then complain that when we have been told things have to be delayed. At that point Frontier are in a rock and a hard place.

Bug fixes are the important thing for now and should be concentrated on, otherwise you are adding more content on a shaky base that could fail at any time. The September release should not have been done and Frontier are now seemingly having to pay for it.

Personally I haven't played the game much over the last year. I mostly play when I want a VR experience of being in a ship flying around. I probably won't be playing (or paying) until the big release at the end of next year. I am desperately hoping that there will be more in the way of content than mechanics (to me the fleet carriers are really more of a game mechanic than actual content because they only enhance what you are already doing, they don't really add anything new other than a way to transport your ship en-masse).

This is a good decision for the long term health of the game. Yep, excited to see what fixes come to the game over the next 12 months. Thank you for listening to your loyal players Frontier!

This had nothing to do with them listening to their players. That is a convenient excuse to cover for very poor management. They have not left enough of a dev staff to keep the existing game running. Carriers have not been in development for 6 months or they are lying to us now. They chose to leave a skeleton staff working on the existing game. They did not dedicate proper test resources to it and shipped the ARX update with so many bugs that they could not start work on the carrier update. What we got today was FDev telling us "The dog ate my homework". If they had been working on the carrier update this entire time it would be in the testing phase and nearly complete.

You are spot on. It's painful, but it's true.

Greetings,

I rarely post on Frontier announcements but there is always an exception. The negative replies are all so silly at times...

You wanted Frontier to communicate with the community about their concerns. Well, they just did. Given their history I'll agree that it is not the norm so I'm impressed. Many announcements are often generic even long ago when the 3rd party web supporters went on strike.

You wanted Frontier to work on recent and longstanding issues versus additional content. OK, that is now their primary focus. Note when ranting make sure that it is about bugs versus your version of game play that you call a bug. For example players instancing together including multi-crew without any connection problems at any time...if that is even possible.

You wanted Frontier to return to the use of public Beta. It's a done deal. Will it help? Player support certainly helps in identifying issues but not always correcting them as many bugs still show up when going live. My guess is that it often takes longer than a two week Beta to figure out solutions. Maybe it is also about finding which Dev has worked with say the SRV wave scanner sound.

As for the next major milestone scheduled for release by the end of next year their reply is still generic. Frontier throw us a bone now and then with say, "Yes, landing on atmospheric planets is in the works" unless you haven't figured out how to do it.

Fleet Carriers sounds like fun but more of icing on a cake for now. It would be convenient to take several ships to say Thargoid space instead of just one dedicated Thargoid hunter then transporting others at a huge cost. Large jumps also lowers the time to get somewhere and increases the local play enjoyment. Short of going to Colonia it isn't all that game changing for now.
The community is asking for fleet carriers...and apparently they can capital jump in real time rather than down time...
That reminds me of the live stream initial launch of Elite Dangerous in Dec 2014. Braben and all were there with some very cool videos and a really big model of the Cobra Mk III. It was like a 'Top Gear' TV episode for space ships. I wonder if it is on YouTube. Meanwhile imagine if Fleet Carriers can do this...

Thanks Will and Frontier from the players around the world that don't rant and rave much! :)

Regards

UPDATE: I found the ED Launch video. Enjoy.

I am disappointed that fleet carriers has been delayed because I don’t see a whole lot of bugs in game.
I am aware of a few bugs that were introduced as part of the September update but as far as I know most (if not all) of them were fixed.

Can we get a target list of which bugs Frontier are targeting to which update?

The tone of Will’s initial post suggests that the game is terrible to play but I am on PS4 and can’t say I have seen a bug since the last patch.

What’s going to take up so much of Frontier’s time?

Community: There's been no new content for existing players for ages baaaawwww

FD: But we told you about that and you were oka-

Community: BAAAAAAWWWWWW

FD: Okay! Here's the new content you existing players have been waiting for

Community: WHAT!? How dare you give us new content when there are bugs in the game! Why don't you ever fix the BUUUUUUUGGGGSSSS!!?

FD: We do! We fix hundreds with every pat-

Community: NOT FAST ENOUGH! NO NEW CONTENT UNTIL THE BUGS ARE FIXED!

FD: Okay! We'll stop everything we're doing right now and fix the bugs first. But it means the new content needs to be delayed again.

Community: WHAT!? YOU NEVER GIVE US NEW CONTENT! NEW CONNNTTEEENNTTT NOW!

FD: But we can't do both!

Community: We want a whole year of bug fixes, and a whole year of new content. ALL IN THE SAME YEAR! BAAAWWWWWWWW

Very, very disappointed by the decision to delay fleetcarriers again. It would have been the only new content for experienced players since ages...

I triggered some friends to start getting back to Elite because of the upcoming carriers. Now there is no goal we can play towards to together.

I think there is a very vocal player base that has problems with existing bugs and want to have them fixed. Nobody has anything against fixing bugs. But are they really that plenty and serious, that you have to delay a major content update for this? I mean, the game is not unplayable at all, I think a vast majority of the players don't experience bugs in a way that their enjoyment of the game is seriously hampered.

So you don't want to take part in the beta's to fix the game, OK see you later.

My understanding of how this works is I pay for a product service that works. The developer pays a beta tester to test for bugs. I don't think I'm supposed to pay to beta test the game for bugs. Unless the 'games as a service' model has drastically changed in recent times?

I KNEW IT! Someone owes me 20 Euros HAHAHA! I told my Friend that Fleet Carriers would be delayed again when the September update released in this abyssmal state BUT IF the majority of the Bugs, especially Multicrew-bugs that have been there for years now, will be fixed this MIGHT be the right call. I strongly wanna point out the !IF! cause right now im not entirely sure what i can actually believe coming from F-Dev anymore.
