What other games are we all playing?

I tried Space Engine VR, if that thing gets polished with spaceships, we're in for a treat!

Otherwise I'm still playing the holy trinity of World of Warships, the never ending AC Odyssey and Hearts of Iron IV. Ticks all sorts of gameplay. :)

I'd love to try it, but every time I watch someone else play (Yamiks, Obsidian Ant), it's Star Slideshow, which is not something I'm interested in.

Oh, and I'll need to install a second hard drive to handle what I assume is a MASSIVE game, storage-wise. (That 2nd hard drive is reserved for RDR2)

#IlluminatiConfirmed

Yep. SE currently discounted at $13 USD atm until Nov 4th. Don't forget to get the Economic Pack DLC at $2.79 USD. Get this if nothing else at it's the most critical DLC that vastly improves the QoL in the game (for solo and multiplayer/coop modes). But try to get all 3 DLC packs before sale ends. They're all discounted at 30% at $2.79 each.

Don't forget the awesome free community mods from the player base in the Steam Workshop. And feel free to share/upload your own creations there as well!

Now is this coincidental timing or what with Outer Worlds release a mere 1.5 hrs away in the Microsoft Store? It's almost as though Steam is trying to steal some of Obsidian's thunder in the space arena. Especially since Bethesda's private server launch is another dumpster fire. And all of us Fallout old school fan bois will be obsessively playing TOW for the rest of the month.... 🤣

edit: Oh crap. With the new update today, they added some cool new build/engineering features and ship/base capabilities Like new science lab and engineering module stations and long requested storage box units. And building superstructures on atmospheric planets like bridges the scale of the SF Golden gate! o_O

I'm basically going MIA for the next couple weeks or so playing Outer Worlds and Space Engineers now
Wondering what the QoL improvements are? Just picked up the base game, haven't played or downloaded it yet (probably won't for some time).

So this Space Engineers is on sale for $15 USD (includes tax). It might be a little cheaper come Black Friday, or maybe a lot more cheaper.. Thoughts?

Also, people comparing this to NMS - does it have a compelling exploration aspect to it?

Same as Juniper, dont getting where the comparison to NMS is coming from. Not much exploration in SE its mostly building/tech kind of play-style aka insanely modded Minecraft. And its very good!
The Empyrion Galactic Survival is kinda closer to NMS and still having building/tech stuff from SE.

NMS comparisons are pretty misleading imo. If you like Minecraft (and how could you not) and you like space, then you will probably enjoy it. Worth every penny of $15 and then some.

I'm now obsessively playing The Outer Worlds on PC thanks to Microsoft store. I'm so glad this was an alternative to the cancer that is EGS

THIS is how a space genre RPG was designed to be played. About the player complete with player choice and consequences for player actions

Going to have a hard time taking a break for some Space Engineers later

Why would you assume that?

It's about putting blocks next to other blocks. Dull as dishwater for me, but others enjoy it, so who am I to argue. 🤷‍♀️
But are the blocks "blocky"? Base-building in Subnautica is putting "blocks" next to other "blocks", and I greatly enjoyed that, but it's not Legos like Minecraft.

But are the blocks "blocky"?

They look pretty blocky to me. Blocks have different shapes (they're not all square) but they all follow the same basic pattern as Minecraft does, so you have to be creative to not have your end result look blocky.

The QoL improvement features have wide scale impact on how players chose to sandbox their game play. From Survival themed RPing to gather, protect and/or defend your colony from the environment/NPCs and/or other players like here:

to engineer/build and customize your base HQ as a trade empire, as a space faring warmonger who builds up a fleet (solo or as a faction) to engage in PvP or with NPCs, to doing your own Privateer sand box missions, to building and customizing your own fighter ship to engage in space based battles ED/EvE type battles (with significantly less HD graphics lol) etc etc. Sky's the limit based on your immagination. SE is basically space Minecraft on steroids with superior HD graphics 😅

Here's the official Keen dev video showcasing all the new features of the Economy Pack update

And here's what the DLC update adds with a decent commentary (one of the best YT SE reviewers to date). Just found out the DLC lets you put bounties on your enemies friends frenemies 🤣

So besides adding more emergent sand box game play (new vending machine feature) for trade with other players (if CoOp/multi) or NPCs (if Solo), an official BH career is now a definite career and money making possibility. Same thing for players who wanted to RP aspiring privateers, mercs and/or criminal RPing like pirates etc. There wasn't a way to officially do this as a sandbox transaction or full time career AND get paid before this update.

But now that you can get guaranteed payment in a safe and timely fashion with the new added ATM module feature. This feature now allows financial transactions ranging from scale of simple ATM withdrawal at your personal base HQs/remote NPC vendor locations to full faction/guild style banking on a global scale. And this is again possible if you're playing Solo or with other players in CoOp and multi modes. I typically prefer solo mode. But with this update to trading and finance, I'm now discovering the multi player mode is a lot more fun being able to interact with other players and factions. Makes it easier to acquire materials (especially the rarer mats) and money to build your ships and HQ faster.

It's refreshing to see how responsive a AA dev like Keen dev is to fan base community requests. There's always something new to discover and do with SE. :D

And this is not a bash on Star Citizen. But I suspect that if SE were to be re-textured with the ultra HD graphics plus ability to build the pretty ships which SC has, I suspect a lot of SC fan boys would be secretly playing SE in the closet. Because there is a lot of existing game play features in SC which pretty much mirror what has been released in SE (less a dynamic game economy, distinct playable Solo/multi/CoOp modes, a stable MMO experience, and stable server performance) to date.

Not that I've found. Baffled by the comparison tbh. It's basically Minecraft in space. Fine if you like that sort of thing.
That’s the thing, though. I’ve always loved exploring new worlds in Minecraft. It’s one of the reasons I play it in hardcore with health regeneration turned off. I found that to be the perfect mix of effort, results, danger, and mystery for surface exploration.

I bought SE back in 2014, and from the sounds of things, it’s changed hugely since then. If it’s comperable to Minecraft, exploration wise, I may have to reinstall it and give it another try. If it’s more like NMS, I’ll give it a pass.
