Open: Why?

Well i'm not reading 11 pages of this topic again, but i'll just say Open isn't just for PvP. You can and do meet random friendly people.
Open is slightly more dangerous* because of that miniscule chance of running into a random murder-hobo / gank squad, but mostly it's exactly the same risk.

Open is also the default mode for Fuel Rat rescues.
While we do run rescues in PGs, you need to be able to interact between rat and client, and Open is the easiest place meet up.
Emergent player and gameplay content can be helpful too - we only fire fuel limpets at each other :love:

Any argument "the game is meant to ne dangerous, that's even what it's called" is wrong.

Maybe "they" are using another platform like yours? That's the pity of a "shared economy" without crossplay. You have no other choice than to play "detective" and raising your question through 3rd-party platforms like Reddit or this very forum.

They could be playing in Open like you, but in a different location on earth and at different times - in that case the chances of meeting them are quite low. I had that a while ago.
For example players from Europe and USA east coast will probably never meet even if they all play in Open and have really good internet connections (that doesn't result in high pings between the players)

(Playing in Open obviously makes it possible to meet other players and discuss matters of BGS opening chances and possibilities for treaties, cooperation and coordination, playing in Solo or PG removes those opportunities)
