This is what Maintenance Mode must be like :(

Am i being too cynical/pessimistic if i think back to the reduction of ingame stories, and now this carrier cancellation, with the announcement of nothing happening till mid-next year or more, and think 'Elite Dangerous just isn't making any money, and they've abandoned it for a good while till the next paid update'.? it's disappointing because Elite should really be considered the best spaceship game out there, and yet it seems to be struggling. Why can Eurotruck simulator do so well, but not Elite? So many of the gamers i know own both.
According to FD's published accounts (as a LTD company they are obliged to not be a fabrication) ED is making plenty of money still...

Then i am well and truly stumped. Why they would (seemingly) pay so little attention to a game of such high quality as ED, and i say that without sarcasm as i really mean it, is beyond my understanding.

Sadly, I have no idea! The only thoeries I have, if expressed, would probably earn the disdain of both community and the moderators... One ban is enough for this year :)

But my politest one suggests that the developers working on 'Live' are perhaps less familiar with the code base than the remainder of the team :)

The emphasis is on newcomers ..... that's new money. They don't need the older players who have already paid for the game and any expansions that are brought along. They (we) will only fork out on paint jobs for so long.

They've looked at the stats, and I guess since FCs will cost so much and require operating skill using in-game features to reach them (I would hope experience would count for something with an 'end game' ship), newcomers won't be equipped to fly FCs until later next year.

Meanwhile, the rest of us can just <insert words here>

Do you know where newcomers are going to come from? A quick look at Steam-stats show they are number 82 on a list of top 100, now granted it's good to just get into that list and other people play without Steam, but i was under the impression that Elite appeals to the older gamer, most of which already know about it, so... isn;t the logical inference that the majority of those who are going to play an old, un-advertised game like Elite are the long-time players?

For sure, but with their backer status and LEPs (I have one), they don't contribute to further funds unless they are generous with their paint purchases.

Accounting has more 'judgement', 'presentation' and 'policy' than many people realise. And that's before we get into ethics.
Never get into 'ethics', they are not a good foundation as they change according to location and outlook of the 'ethical' party... :)
(Might we assume you are an accountant?)

Can you give examples of how those would affect the recorded sales revenue of each of FDev's games (Elite Dangerous, Planet Coaster, etc)? Cheers
