What's The Mamba's niche?

The Mamba’s niche was to be a new ship without being new or affecting the current meta. Eye candy to attract new game buyers from a distance and provide some low effort fluff content in a pretty package to the game at a time when nothing was really being added.

its purpose may have been to take some of the pressure off the Asp Scout having to continuously be the most useless ship in the game but it couldn’t even do that right.

Lots of curved surfaces and some sloppy internal geometry makes it a pretty good shadow map depth/slope bias stress test...

You are of course entitled to your opinion but I like the Mamba. In fact it is my 'go to' combat ship, I even relegated my FdL to a more meaningless role in my fleet. For me I like the hardpoint placements on the Mamba over the FdL, suits the way I play and fly.

Greetings,

When the Mamba came out I maxed engineered it then added the basic engineered beams and multi-cannons. I wasn't too serious with more advanced weapons as in a PvP engineered Fer de Lance but just wanted to take it out for a combat spin. Besides I like beams and MCs similar to some players like pack-hound seeker missiles lovin' the show they put on when firing them. Sometimes less is more.

Engineered it is fast, maneuverable, has great shields for a low 250 ton hull. It's fuel tank won't get too far so adjust for that. It also has a few cool paint jobs from midnight black to the racing versions. I'm currently in Thargoid space in a Krait MK II so I'm not going to fly back to my home world in the bubble just to capture a picture for this post.

Will it defeat my combat Corvette with two huge beams and engineered frag cannons for up close and personal? Don't make me laugh. Still it is a fun ship to fly. Isn't that the point of this silly game? Here's the not all that serious build.

Regards

Agreed, part of the joy of Elite for me is experimenting with all aspects of the game, trying new ships, seeing how best to use each ship. It doesn't matter if that specific build 'isn't as good' as say... A fdl.... IT ISN'T A FDL! It's about smelling the roses!
The anaconda is Magnificent
The cutter is.... Expensive
The mamba is downright sexy
The Gunship is maximum Dakka
The Hauler
The Phantom is Krait for exploring
The Asp scout....

Etc.
