What's The Mamba's niche?

It's hull and bulkheads are about 5% more expensive than the FDL and most of the modules are identical.

Are you sure you aren't looking at a standard priced FDL and a discount Mamba?

My mistake, can't belive it's cheaper with more rubbish weapon loadout.

Soo... Can Mamba replace my iCourier for trolling purposes? I seek delta v vs FDL wing of about 50 m/s and shields and armor to last at least 30 seconds. I can mix and match from those starting points.

Mamba does not have the unique permanoost timing of the Krait.

What's the off set with 2 pips, and charge enhanced PD, in seconds, if possible?

Edited to 2 pips because I think its my standard Krait Eng setting.

No time right now but basically you could easily do two boosts in a Krait between Mamba boosts.

I'm trying to fit one into my fleet and can't see where it fits in?

I already use, Viper, FDL, Krait, Asp, Python, Conda, Cutter, and Corvette, and each have a unique role for me.

How can I make use of a Mamba?

As it looks like a Ferrari of the space, you can use it the weekends to flirt with the girls.

I noticed the last two days, what amazing engines the challenger has. Particularly the engine brakes, would love to see its figures added to your data, along with maybe the chieftain. Thanks for taking the time and trouble.

Well, I had a bit of time on my hands this weekend so I finally did just that, and even expanded my researches to all the more popular medium sized ships and more.

I posted a thread in the Ships section of the forum where you can find a spreadsheet and all my results.

There : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/459813-Thrusters-Performances-Spreadsheet-or-what-the-Mamba-does-best-(and-others)?p=7187533#post7187533

And yes! As it turned out, the Challenger is indeed a unique ship in its own way, the only medium sized ship that can brake from 100% to 0 in 10 seconds, and achieve max lateral/vertical speed in 10 seconds also. The Chieftain is also very good in terms of thrusters performances (even better overall, considering it's faster).

The Mamba can boost every ~6.5 seconds (noticeably less often than the Kraits' five seconds) as long as you have juice in the cap (and 1.5 pips with an A6 charge enhanced 5 super conduit PD is enough to boost essentially indefinitely).

Reducing it slightly is not enough... I thought you knew this, but I will explain how minimum mass on thrusters works:

  • Once your total mass gets higher than the minimum mass value of your engines, your ships starts loosing top speed rapidly.
  • 5A Thrusters (DD5 / DragDrives) have a minimum mass of 365 tons
  • 6A Trhusters (DD5 / DragDrives) have a minimum mass of 626 tons

Conclusion: The minimum mass difference between C5 and C6 thrusters is 260 tons. Good luck with "slightly" reducing the Mamba's hull mass by that amount. C6 thrusters on the Mamba would make it possible to build a heavy combat fitting and still retain a top speed well over 600 m/s. If this is desirable can be debated, I think it's necessary because speed is the only thing the Mamba has going fort it compared to the FdL.

but whatever your opinion regarding this possibly is: Your statement that increasing thruster size to C6 was pointless is just wrong.

Get a life dude. Just buy the thing, contribute to the thread or don't buy one and take your salt elsewhere. Sick of hearing Fdl comparisons. It's like Apple and android all over again.

I'm pretty sure he's made a decision by himself in the 12 months since posting that.
'round these parts, you can never be sure. Now, if there was a graph....

But the Mamba's niche? It's to be put on display, as the showpiece of exotic performance engineering it is. Some day it gets sold to a new owner, with less than 50 light years on it. Other than that, it's a Fer de Lance, with the hard points upside down.
