SO the Galconda, the first generation ship we have seen in game with live occupants, is the focus of the current Interstallar Initiative, but the objectives for it strike me as a bit screwy... The first two superpowers have weighed in pledging to build a new settlement for the colonists, the Imperials are planning on a planetary settlement, and the Federation are planning on an outpost, neither of which is in keeping with the colonists desire to stay aboard their generation ship and continue their journey. This got me thinking...
A generation ship is inherently similar to current megaships / orbital stations, we know from previous story arcs that such vessels can "jump", but the generation ships are from a period before we had superluminal propulsion systems, as such they are sub-light speed hence its taken them a thousand years to get 172 light years from sol. So I was wondering, why isn't there an alternative initiative aiming to keep the colonists on the ship and make it easier for them to continue their journey by allowing us to group together to upgrade the galconda with either older generation hyperdrives, or current generation frame shift drives?
