Galconda alternative objectives?

SO the Galconda, the first generation ship we have seen in game with live occupants, is the focus of the current Interstallar Initiative, but the objectives for it strike me as a bit screwy... The first two superpowers have weighed in pledging to build a new settlement for the colonists, the Imperials are planning on a planetary settlement, and the Federation are planning on an outpost, neither of which is in keeping with the colonists desire to stay aboard their generation ship and continue their journey. This got me thinking...

A generation ship is inherently similar to current megaships / orbital stations, we know from previous story arcs that such vessels can "jump", but the generation ships are from a period before we had superluminal propulsion systems, as such they are sub-light speed hence its taken them a thousand years to get 172 light years from sol. So I was wondering, why isn't there an alternative initiative aiming to keep the colonists on the ship and make it easier for them to continue their journey by allowing us to group together to upgrade the galconda with either older generation hyperdrives, or current generation frame shift drives?

Their ship is 1000 years old. There is a flu going around that they admit on a vessel that size they cannot sterilize anymore. They sent a distress signal which everyone got alerted to thanks to Galnet, including pirates and slavers. Their ship has no weapons.

Retrofitting their ship would be far harder than just letting them buy a brand new Megaship with modern tech, medicine, galaxy map, FSD, weapons, fighter bays, etc.

Not to mention, Thargoids. A Generation Ship full of countless humans when we know they harvest up escape pods (and go into attack mode if you scoop the escape pod once they are looking at it). It's a Thargoids feeding ground for ripe experimentation with a huge crew to harvest up.

P.S. Plus there are commanders like me who want to either bring Thargoids to them or destroy the vessel outright as there is nothing useful that crew can offer modern society other than unimportant historical value.

Have they said they want to stay on the ship and continue their journey?
They have said they want to stay in their home and not interact too much with the rest of the galaxy. Keeping going on their journey seems the only option unless they change their mind on this.

Neither the Empire or Federation seem to be interested in that and only seem to want to use them as an excuse to expand territory. Expect a Fed or Imp engineer to find the ship 'worn beyond repair' and they have no option but to end their journey and form an outpost (under the rule of the relevant superpower of course).

Their leaders are saying so.
Their security officer is forbidding any comms with the colonists. So we don't know what the colonists actually want.

And their security officer is the reason we need Thargoids or Pirates to attack so they can realize how helpless they are in the modern day.

Probably because this type of discovery would be overwhelming for many of them. It's likely many may have thought that with no outside communication that they were the last of humanity. They won't be equipped to deal with the galaxy as it is so assimilation into a superpower is not what is best for them on this basis.

Dude! Spoilers!

The Galconda crew just need to spend an hour or two mining void opals.
Or the average commander could donate 1% of his in game wealth.

could is not the same as will. So who’s buying?

are we going to enslave the Galconda crew and make them mine void opals with 1000 year old tech and no ships or are we going to steal 1% of “average” commander’s wealth?

by the way FDev has said that the average player has less than 1 million credits.

I think FDev should allow people to be hostile against the ship. I think they should stick 2 or 3 battlecruisers from both empires, as well as a dozen or so elite T10s, along with a wing of elite corvettes and cutters and elite crusaders with an elite fighter each, as well as an infinite supply of smaller escort ships, and have them open fire on anything that deploys hardpoints.

Their ancestors decided they don't want to Arrive.
Now, these colonists are not the same people. We don't know what they really want.
Maybe they want to Arrive and their leaders want to maintain the status quo so they're blocking all the comms.

maybe after realizing how pointless their journey was they want us to blow them up.

That is the opposite of engaging content, that's just forced mechanics to force a "story" objective that in the end after it's garbage CG concludes will be something to be forgotten about. We should just be allowed to be hostile to it, period.

It is the problem that we don't know if the leaders are benevolently shielding their people from a massive culture shock, or is this some kind of brutal dictatorship where the people have no say in how things are run. One thing is for sure though, whether the Empire or Federation wins, the people of the Golconda won't get to decide on their own future. Their leadership is effectively about to be overturned anyway.
