Roadmap leaked??

Latest entry on the leak has been confirmed:

Yup, the leak is probably correct about ED too. We'll get space legs and base building and prob basic atmospheric planets.

and some still think it's unreliable :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yep, there's been plenty missing from the leak

Always assumed the source of this was somebody who did have a contact within FDev - probably somebody working on JWE - but couldn't resist throwing in a bunch of speculation about ED too.

They say the best place to hide a lie is between two truths.

What makes you think we'll get atmospheric planets in 2020? The leak explicitly mentioned no indication of atmospherics. Legs and base building is an enormous update on its own, let's not get carried away.

The leak doesn't mention atmospherics, but it's not hard to add basic atmospheric effects to planets such as in Space Engine. There could be water and lava too. So I think Frontier will include it. Earth-like worlds will come later.

The original leak contained the following words:

Haven’t seen any mention of atmospheric landings.

Not exactly a confirmation that they aren't coming in 2020, but you're likely to be disappointed if you think they are.

They had good intel on a Planet Coaster too :)

The thing about the ‘base lies on a bed of truth’ thing, while totally possible, is it’s slightly undermined by the predictions.

Like, if you’re trying to create a convincing set of lies about future DLC & franchises... Why the hell would you posit a Lego RTS game? That’s a pretty left-field prediction. Why not just play it safe?

It would actually make more sense to do Atmospherics first. Why? We already have a means of exploring them - either by ship, by fighter or by SRV, just like we do with non-atmospheric worlds. Atmospheric <> Earth-like, or even suitable for life - just that there's some manner of air around the planet, which then gives us things like pressure differentials, heat/friction, wind-sheer, visual limitations, and so on - all the complications that are simply going to take a lot of programming hours, testing, reprogramming, retesting, bug-fixing in the mission system, finally beta testing, more fixing... then we can worry about getting up and walking around - something that is, in terms of scope and scale, a far easier bit to pull off.

We already know Frontier is more than capable of handling the actual walking around bits - in terms of the rest of what they've done, are planning on doing, and the like, it's a pretty simple matter.

Of course, this is also why I'm not a project lead, manager or director - I'd do things that make more sense.

Even basic atmospherics are a massive task. Every planets will be different, with different levels of erosion, atmospheres, sky colour because of the atmosphere, different weather phenomenon etc. It's huge, and probably far harder then what you imagine it to be.

I think either are a good step. There is only so much gameplay you can do when stuck in your SRV and ship when down on a planet. Having the ability to get out of your SRV gives the Devs so much more gameplay scope, so it could also make just as much sense to do space legs first, to provide the Devs with the extra gameplay sources before tackling atmospheric planets.

They should go for basic atmos rather than base building!
This game is going in Sims direction rather than space game direction (create your characther, outfits, ship pimping, build a house, decorate it...etc).
Base building=another grinding feature.

Seems space enviroment and it's interaction with a player is last thing on their priority list!

I want base building more than space legs, but that depends on what they mean with base building. Could be the Carrier as base and the building part is simply adding services to it. Or will they allow us to build our own settelments eventually? Recruiting NPCs to work for you, grow the colony go from settelment to outpost to base etc.

There is hope for a change in space. At least for comets and new ships (including the hybrid, human-targoid design, called glaive).
