Tionisla Graveyard in Beyond?

It doesn't do anything for the narratives in Elite as they are. It's just a nod to previous books, but it doesn't really benefit the game as much as something that would matter to what's going on in the game now.

Just putting it into the game doesn't do much for anyone. It would need to matter to the game state, and it's more going backwards than pushing a narrative forward. You could work it into the current environment, but that's more of a detour.

I agree, but you need the small as well as the large to give the game extras. For me the TG would be akin to the generation ships or INRA bases, giving spot flavour while Galnet evolves characters and situations.

Stop discussing each other and leave the handbags at the door. Focus on the topic, or you can have a break from the thread.

I personally think Frontier should know that players still feel deeply about the graveyard and its mindful addition into the game could be a source of deep joy for the playerbase.

The problem with Lore in a game such as Elite is the enormous scope of work it creates.

It has to be done by FD, yes I know players will volunteer at the drop of a hat but you need a small group to own the process. No matter how keen a non-FD person is, real life (or a new game) will cause a breakdown in work effort.

So okay, lets say FD now has a small team to create, promulgate and maintain the Lore in the game. Is their word final or will people with their pet projects and theories demand their interpretation of the Lore be included cos, you know, they are right and everyone else is wrong and anyway they read about their theory in a magazine article in 1986 so it has to be true.

I like the idea of Lore in a game like this, I think it desperately needs a consistent and coherent back story to give a lot of what happens meaning. But alas I think it is too late for it now. FD did try in the beginning but they must have realised just how big a task it was and what type of backlash they would get from the community.

Definitely. Such an addition would be greatly appreciated by many I'm sure.
But would it add substance to the game? It would be nice, but I feel like it would be a one-shot visit for many. There would really need to be a reason to go there first.

There were plenty ideas given in this thread already.

I'm not saying there aren't ideas. I'm saying that just putting the graveyard in the game all on its own would be a miss, it would need to have some importance beyond a simple CG, to keep interest in the landmark.

I agree.

No, I think as commanders that are important to different people are added I think that you would see yearly ceremonies or events around remembering that player or character. Elite has a pretty solid following and I think we would see players return to the game just for these events. Elite holds a very important place in the hearts of many players, and even more so the cmdrs they played with. I would argue this would be a trend setting feature, to have a solmn place of remembrance. People still make trips out to visit Cmdr jameson's ship, think about the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard?

Heck, it would even give the community team more opportunity to engage with the community. Each ship added could be a new event.

Slight snag there (don't think this is me thinking it's a bad idea... It is a great idea ) but it is an absolute certainty that any event such as you suggest would also be visited by the "emergent" gameplay folk. Remember what happened with the CG for that chap who passed a few years back? Some players deliberately put the station in lockdown to try to get it stopped .

Yeah and then there was a HUGE community push to fix it in-game.

As much as Ollobrains is an in-game enemy, when Frontier removed UA Bombing, they lost an important way for players to interact with each other.

Conflict is good.

It is a pillar of the Elite Dangus experience. BGS wars, “griefing” (I think of it as “area denial”), UA Bombing, suicidewinder ramming, PowerPlay. All these things have their detractors, but the game is much poorer without them.

With the death of fluff Galnet I have no hope for interesting historical lore set pieces to be added.

We done even have off screen politics now like the simple statement that Hudson got reaffirmed at the Mid term vote of confirdence, as it is too off screen for the new GalNet and not worth a time to update the codex
