Well that’s my festive season sorted *right* out...

This is the RL equivalent of Leestian Evil Juice:

EDIT: or that Everclear stuff...

You mean this one?

Because there's also the 151 Proof version that's a bit more common.

I usually use somewhere between 1.5 and 2 bottles of this stuff every year...

1.5 goes into making chocolate covered cordials, the other half bottle goes into me.

Though these days it usually goes in in the form of 1-1.5 shots in a glass of Juice of the Day, rather than just as shots. It helps ensure they stay there.
190 Proof. Cleaned out the cabinet last night and drank up the mostly-empties with friends, so I just saw it. It's waiting for a few mixed drinks - apparently we're making some kind of Klingon drink on Sunday, though I forget the name.

The main issue with anything containing that Vol of alcohol 95%, is that if you open the bottle; it will evaporate, at room temperature. Keeping anything at a higher Vol, is very hard, as it will evaporate, through such things as cork, etc.. For the Angels, of course. :D

For those focussing on the alcohol content, let me share with you this snippet of info regarding L.E.J.’s ancestor:
In January 2010, a BBC investigation revealed that Buckfast had been mentioned in 5,638 crime reports in the Strathclyde area of Scotland from 2006 to 2009, equating to an average of three per day. In 2017, Scottish Police reported there had been 6,500 crimes related to the drink in the previous two years. One in 10 of those offences had been violent and 114 times in that period a Buckfast bottle was used as a weapon. A survey at a Scottish young offenders’ institution showed of the 117 people who drank alcohol before committing their crimes, 43 per cent said they had drunk Buckfast. In another study of litter around a typical council estate in Scotland, 35 per cent of the items identified as rubbish were Buckfast bottles.
...who’d a thunk adding loads of caffeine to red wine would kick things off? :)

That's where one of these comes in real handy. Keeps the angels from drinking.

Chech'tluth maybe? Drop in a few chips of dry ice for the smoking effect.

I spent a bit of time in Glasgow, where Bucky was very much in evidence. One summers evening, I watch a couple come out of the local chipper, and sit down on the pavement to enjoy their meal, accompanied by a couple of bottles of Bucky. Classy stuff :)

I used to live not far from Buckfast Abbey at one point. It is a very peaceful and bucolic spot, and the monks seem very serene. I often wondered if they were blissfully unaware of their contribution to social disorder in other parts of the country, and just considered that they were making a nice little aperitif drink. Though cynically, I rather suspect they just looked at the bottom line into the Abbey coffers ;)

There’s a big difference between ABV and proof, also a difference between US measure of proof and UK. That dangerous stuff there, 95% by volume? Crazy, it’s actually hard to ’still something to that volume! usually you get a good run level and liquor back. Made some gin with hops a couple of years back, smelt like sprouts! Eventually it settled back though.
Bucky! Ha! Many adventures!

I'm not sure, it's somebody's birthday, I'm bringing simple syrup and lime juice. I've already bought enough Absurdly Large Goblets™ for the table so we'll see what happens.

Raktajino is planned for after, with cake.

If I were doing such a thing, I would use a thumper. This reboils the liquids at a technically, below water boiling points, thus, you get as close to as you can get, pure alcohol. Just don't drink the first 2%. It WILL kill you.

The issue I have with going for pure Vol or proof, is the loss of flavours. i prefer 'pot stilled', things like brandies and rums. You can still pull, 55 to 65% vols and keep some wonderful flavours.

Yeah, most big distillers do throw some of the heads back in. It’s complicated stuff, studied it for years before getting any done. To be honest I stick to my ordinary brewing, beers and that(60litre nano brewery). I read somewhere that orange juice has a higher percentage of methanol (the stuff that damages your optic nerves) than if you were to leave it in (I wouldn’t anyway!) , that the reason people associate home distilling with methanol poisoning is due to unscrupulous non licensed idiots. Looking at the other nasties in the first running’s, formaldehyde, toluene, etc etc. Nasty! Luckily I have a booze shop so get it at cost now!

I keep a ready supply of Georgian Chacha at home, homebrew (like grappa), which on average is 65% or better. Good for what ails you. Currently I have two runs, one of Saperavi and the other of Persimmon.

As a brewer, you know that you only get back, what you put in. Hygiene, careful preparation and a little luck, will always give good results. These things are just as important to the distiller, as they are to the brewer.

Too right ‘arry, sound advice! Just finishing the brew house, be better than my old garage was. Has wipe clean walls now. All the old yeast library chucked, start again! Even the vac packed two year old frozen hop packs, binned. looking forward to getting a mash on!
Anyone have any ED related recipes?
I made an imperial stout that was almost as dense as a black hole once.
we are really lucky here in Cornwall, soft lovely water, it’s a dream to brew with!

The water. Which is the key to everything.
