ANNOUNCEMENT January Update - Beta Announcement

I am completely new to this game and I find it quite complicated, but I must say it seems absolutely fantastic. I have been looking for such a game for a long time.
Thank you, what a wonderful purchase.
With as much griping as i do, this is still my favorite game. Dont fall victim to all our complaints. as long as you are enjoying it, thats all that matters

Indeed I love it too...... I moan a lot but it'd only because I really like the game and I want it to become as close to the game FD pitched to me as possible. It has its warts but still.......
Over 1500 hrs in and I still play now and then. It must do something right

(Do checkout VR if you can .. it's what keeps me playing)

This is a polite way of saying no, console doesnt make us enough money so we dont really care about them. Playstation 4 cqc has been broken for too long for me to believe they will ever do anything else to fix console exclusive issues.
I think it is genuinely more difficult to roll out multiple patches to console (pc patch number plummeted when console version came out).

The very nature of a beta may mean daily even more than daily patches.

If a key feature like CQC has been broken for ages however there is no excuse for that.

I genuinely dislike the proposed FSS changes to POI scans. FDev should be able to implement both options:

Scan the planet and get an immediate 'Likely/Unlikely' POI notification, and then continue to scan in the background (as it does now) and update the relevant info displays when the scan is complete.

This way, a player can immediately move on to another planet on 'unlikely' scans.

EDIT: It would also help enormously if the POI data from the FSS was also shown in the body data in the system map.

Also, while we're here, can we please also enhance the POI display in the left-hand panel with one (or both) of the following:
  1. Show an icon/overlay next to scanned POI's.
  2. Scanning a single POI should cause all other POI's with a matching Codex entry on that body to be revealed too. For example, scanning 1 'Bark Mound' POI on a body should show all other 'Bark Mound' POI's on the same body to be shown as 'scanned' too.

I dont think its "the game" as in client PC tho. Its the server taking a long time to send the information. I say that because if the entire galaxy was seeded on the client PC somebody would have tryed to decode it by now. Could be wrong :)
Stellar forge runs in the game client ..

Rapidly approaching 12,000 hours here (excluding earlier versions) and it's still about the only thing I'm playing. Eyeroll inducing moments are relatively rare, maybe because the workarounds are hardwired into the muscle memory and I'm always in PG but when they do crop up, few have been game breaking.

Created this forum account to donate feedback during all public beta's so far. Some bugs still not fixed!

[I need a machine upgrade before it's worth investing in a Pimax 5K, which isn't supported so... FDev?]

It absolutely is 'the game' as in client PC. The delay is while the planet generation system procedurally generates the planet that you've zoomed in on. Graphics card performance makes a huge difference to the time taken.

Thanks for adressing a number of the issues/bugs that really annoys us. However, it is very disappointing that the CQC bugs on PS4 is not adressed. These really makes players abandon cqc, effectively killing it on ps4.

Aren't developers just fixing bugs all the time? From reading the original post It seems to me that these are only fixed in an orderly fashion following a strict protocol. It is a strange system for programmers maintaining modern complex software in my opinion, and would explain why so many bugs remain unsolved. Why not encourage programmers to deal with bugs as they come? Keeping the set of confirmed unfixed bugs empty should be the goal.

The generating "new" shrubs n' rockeries excuse ain't flying by the way, because it takes just as long to FSS a planet someone else has already scanned and mapped. If you don't use the FSS and instead fly straight to an unexplored landable it still sounds like the old DSS scanner and the feed backs abort early.

There's also a delay between 100% probe coverage and the resolved POIs appearing in the nav panel, regardless of discovery method and the planet you're trying to scan briefly vanishes from the list. Seems there may be multiple bottle necks, waiting for a seed from the server and I guess generating client side?

Older hardware probably doesn't help. Is it not possible to get seeds during the jump and pre-generate?

You are in fact wrong.

What the devs should do is add indicator marks to the 'landable planet' arc in the System Map, like they have for planetary bases, to show the existence of geo and bio sites. Then you wouldn't have to wait for the FSS to resolve the question - you could move on then if you needed to know about such things you could go into the System Map and see at a glance which planets' or moons' stats you needed to check out further in the System Map's info panel.

Too bad the info panel doesn't show the presence of BIO sites...

Don't want this to sound like I'm trying to dismiss your points, but wouldn't really want to see another player leave the game either so just throwing these points out for consideration.

- The new probabilities can be ignored if needed for Geo sites, and you can just go off the body info (which you get instantly) to know with 99% certainty whether the body will have Geo sites.

- For Bio POIs... not sure at the moment, won't be until knowing/seeing more about how the probabilities map over into the game.

- All other POI types - the new version should be much better, as the detection of them will no longer be delayed on bodies with volcanism.

In other words we effectively have a combo of:
  • unchanged
  • maybe worse
  • better
And for the Bios, would it really be that bad? With things as they currently stand, how many bodies with Bio signals do you actually visit, and how many sites do you check?

(Again, just want to say that I'm not trying to argue against you with this stuff, rather just hoping that on reflection the new version might not be as bad as it might have seemed at first impression, and that if it does go ahead it wouldn't actually end up meaning someone having to leave the game.)

My reaction is based on how it looks now.
We'll just have to see how it all turns out, only then can I make an honest decision.
It's not that I want yo quit playing ED but when the fun is taken out of the game then it's time to move on imho.
Maybe exploration will become better with the new mechanic, I'll definitely keep playing when it does.
