Galaxy Reset

Yet now we have players who want something new, so they are asking for another galaxy. Guess what, that will be basically identical in looks to this one since FD have always tried to be as realistic as they can regarding the galaxy.

I think when people ask for additional galaxies to explore, the intention is for those new galaxies to contain new mechanics and features which are not present in the Milky Way. Things which could make those galaxies very interesting to explore.

For example:
  1. Strong radiation around the galaxy cores which would require specific engineering or outfiting to survive.
  2. New materials or ores could be present in the new galaxies. Maybe even galaxies where mats common in the Milky Way are now very rare instead.
  3. New galaxy shapes, like dumbell and two arm galaxies, even spherical.
  4. The star distribution in the new galaxies might be much more sparse, requiring high end jump ranges to even traverse them.
  5. Other galaxies could contain regions of bad or dangerous space, filled with space storms and hazardous nebulas.
There are a myriad of ways to make new galaxies much more challenging to explore, and many ways to make them very different experiences to fly around. No one wants more Milky Ways to fly in, that would be a waste of effort.

Actually I kinda get the want for another galaxy.

New extremes - new ultimate rim systems, new highest and lowest stars, new AA-A systems, new unknown voids to cross, new nebulas to see first. After several years of Elite exploration, almost all of those things were charted during the glory days and can no longer be found on the Milky Way (except of course furthest systems that change based on upper limits of FSD tech). It's pretty telling how with the new anomalies, it took like a week or two to tag all first anomaly discoveries in all sectors.

Understand what you are saying but what is there that is new. Yep a different galaxy will have some new 'firsts' to do, but with the increased jump range we have now, those 'firsts' will be completed within a first couple of weeks of the new galaxy being released. So does that mean that FD will have to design and release another New Galaxy as soon as a percentage of the new anomalies are discovreed?

Again, how long will it take before these new things are deemed common and boring? To address your five examples:

  1. Okay, so once your get your ship engineered/outfitted right to combat the new radiation then what? That wouldn't take long to do at all given the current playing styles.
  2. Yes but to what ends. If something is rare in one galaxy but common in the other, so what? It would only be a factor if the player is transversing between the two galaxies all the time. If not, then was is now rare is rare, same as what is rare now is hard to find. What FD can't do is make something common in one galaxy, but rare in another, yet still make the requirement for it common. For example, in our galaxy iron is very common and hence used in a lot of blueprints and synthenis recipes. If they made iron very rare in the new galaxy, you could build a bridge between the two galaxies just on the salt that would flow.
  3. Yes, but to what end? What would the shape of the galaxy do to enhance gameplay? Do you now zoom out to the see the entire galaxy when plotting a route? Does it make a difference what shape the galaxy is to those that are inside of it?
  4. If you think back, originally 20 lys jump range was considered good, anything approaching 30ly was considered exceptional. Now a jump range of 30ly is considered mediocre at best. So how long do you thin jump ranges would be considered challenging? FD would have to provide a way to jump those new larger rangers, everyone would just adopt that new Meta.
  5. This is probably the only interesting aspect. But since we have so much of this galaxy to discover, there is no reason why these regions can't be placed in our galaxy.

A resounding "no" to the OP. I am currently on my third voyage up to Beagle Point. Yes on my initial run out from the Bubble to Explorer's End, I went about 4 - 5K LY before finding unclaimed systems. Turning north west at Explorer's End doing my FSS every third (or so) jumps, within 300 LY every system I've stopped in has been unclaimed. I've not (yet) even stumbled across any systems I claimed myself on the previous run as Seizewell Warrior. Now well into the Errant Marches area and no sign of anyone having been there before me. Heck, I might even think about running in Open out here!

So there are a vast number of unclaimed systems out there. You just have to be prepared to actually do some exploring, fairly sure if you're really feeling adventurous there's nests of brown dwarfs which have been carefully avoided but still waiting to be mapped. Fly 1 - 2 K LY above or below the galactic plane before turning in your desired direction, rather than following the herd.

Can I buy my own galaxy with ARX? :)
You know, I can't see FD doing this but I can see another similar game (whose name shall not be mentioned) doing this. But they would take it one step further, offer an entire galaxy for sale but provide no means to get there, no interstellar jump mechanism. Just tell the whales that they will get a nice digital certificate and that the intergalatic jump engine is slated for 'future content'.

Yep, could definitely see that happening :D
