You know you're a real explorer when...

I just checked for the giggles... 11 times in Sol, 2 in Beagle point (I think another time more when it was still Ceeckia ZQ-L c24-0 ). Seems I am not a "real explorer" then 😅.

I've never been to either. What do I win?

Though on saying that, I am currently en-route to Beagle, though I'm taking a scenic route, heading up above the galactic plane to visit some nebula, then diving down through the core to Sag A*, THEN veering off wildly to the galactic rim and across the Abyssal Plain, because why not?

I'm in Sol on a regular basis, especially on a return from exploration out in the black... luncheon dates with Adle of Adle's Armada.

I put some of these in another thread

You're not a real explorer until you've:
  • crashed into a planet and blown up
  • jumped thousands of light years, and left your SRV at home
  • forgotten your DSS
  • took a punt at charging off a white dwarf only to have things go badly wrong
  • hit a black hole cos you weren't sure which direction you were facing when you throttled up

Dang it, still a noob after all 😆

I have crashed into a planet but I have yet to blow up doing so.
I haven't forgot an SRV after thousands of lightyears yet but I have forgot one when going to guardian ruins... so 600 ish Ly I think?
I forgot an ADS once (back in those days, noticed pretty quick though) but have yet to forgot a DSS.
I have charged off plenty of WD stars, no catastrophic failures yet. Not worth the risk though, they are definitely more difficult for less gain.
I have not hit a black hole yet.

I have only been to BP once and Sol several times.

You're a real explorer when your reaction to finding ELW, AW and terraformable WW is more often than not: "meh".

This I can relate to, especially with WW's. I skip them nowadays unless I actually feel like mapping stuff; I kind of treat them like HMC's. ELW's and AW's I always map no matter the distance however I actually get more excited about those nice looking AW's (you know the ones with less atmosphere where you can see more ground features) than I do about ELW's.

I feel like I have failed the real explorer test. Do I still get to drink?

Ive done all of those things except crashing into a white dwarf and forgetting srv also :)

So far I've never forgotten the SRV, but that's because I usually look over the livery before leaving home base. It's not so important now, but I had gotten into the habit because I wanted to be sure I was happy with my choices before being stuck with them for a long time.

I've probably been to Sol a few more times than Beagle if you count jump-ins.

Does it not make me a real explorer?
-> mfw when finding out I have more star-miles logged than Dr Nagi. Less an indication of my exploration chops, more a sign that I spend too much time playing Elite...

Or as I now react when finding ELW or AW- "I was making good progress but now I have to stop and map something"
The longer I'm away on an exploration run, the more this happens to me. I'm about 10 weeks out at the moment, and there's almost nothing sweeter than a HONK that's immediately followed by "System scan completed".

IMHO :

You're a real Explorer ( * ) when someone asks you "What's your Home System, CMDR?" and you can honestly reply : "The black of the Void. Deep Space." ;)

( * ) Maybe more realistically, I'd say you're a real Explorer when you personally are convinced that this is the case.

Oh definetly do that, it's super fun actually. Can recommend.

Well, I did just turn in a bunch of data so maybe I'll find the closest black hole to Colonia and go headbutt it, see what happens, Then I'll be one step closer to being a real explorer!

Edit: I did get within 24km of a blackhole out on DW2 but I chickened out when I got some kind of message about entering the exclusion zone and my heat started to build a bit. Too much data on me to play that game.
