Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

CitCon was a blast. Met so many cool people and mingled with the devs. Gotta say insanely passionate community. I have been to my share of game conventions and events but this was a few steps up in enthusiasm from those. The journey was well worth it and I also observed how drunk Brits can get... :D

About the Evo stuff. If any studio did Evo level testing with their community it would also be halfway broken just because of the fact that the features are halfway implemented and are at a very early state. Majority of the games don't do it precisely because some of the comments here and that is also why EVO is behind NDA. They will get most of the stuff running at an Alpha state for the LIVE patch as they did with most patches. No news there.
Did you have a good chat with Erin Roberts (Director of CIG's largest studio, located in Manchester) and/or Sandi Gardiner (VP of Marketing) during the Manchester CitizenCon, Star Citizen's most important annual marketing event?

The expo is limited to different manufacturers on successive days (it's the alien ships today) which seems unusually restrictive for an advertised free fly event...perhaps on the last few days they'll open up all the show floors so you can pick through the entire flyable range...I certainly hope so anyway.
Did the opening up of all the show floors happen during last year's event?

Strange thing, although I remember the expo from last year since I bought back in shortly after it having had a year out (I refunded before 3.0 was released)... I can't remember how it was structured at all.

To be EVO you don’t have to spent tons of money, but you do have to play a lot. The expo this year is much better than last years, as its significantly more stable.

Still no ship as capable as my 600i, explorer to upgrade to. But, many ships do 1 aspect of SC significantly better than the 600. The only other ship as well rounded, thus far is the Cutty Black, but, it still not as good.

The only other ship I really want on top of my 600i and Titan is potentially a Razor LX. But, only if it fit into the 600i. That way I could become a professional racer, on top of my exploration career.

From what I recall the whole Expo was open throughout - so technically the floors/halls didn't need to open up as they weren't closed to begin with. It was a much smaller environment too.

I think certain ships appeared in the halls as the week went on?

CIG have certainly allocated many more resources to this year's event development, compared to last year.

I'm not sure if all ships were available to buy/pre-order on the last day though.

I don't think that the people hired by cig are actually competent. Incompetent leaders breed incompetent followers.

Not sure in the general rank and file, but there are probably issues in the higher ranks (beyond the obvious of having a VP of marketing who has zero qualifications in marketing). More likely they general rank and file's ability to perform is being hindered by CR's love of micromanging. Also, CR himself said that he doesn't like people who tell him something can't be done, so management is probably full of yes men, because anyone who tried to tell CR no is long gone.

on top of my exploration career.

What exploration career?

Funny though, the most capable all round ship is a ship that costs over $400, and designed for a role that doesn't actually exist in game and nobody has any real clue yet as to when any sort of real exploration mechanic will come in and what it will look like. Ok, you can "explore" by flying around planets looking for interesting stuff, but you can do that in any ship.

By the love of all that is holy, please do not add "64 bit" or "double precision floating point", or even "VR" to that statement.

While you are waiting for the exploration game play you can have fun day dreaming in the medical bay and the drone room!

C'mon guys, CitizenCon (Con!) is over, don't mock Mr. Nowak over it. At least he answered the call.

Yeah, about calls. Remember "Calling all devs" that was canceled a year ago? Are they still not answering?

Project SC is a shining example of how a poorly managed project gobbled up huge amounts of money, burdened it without progressing and still crawling around on the ground. It’s zombie project, half animated but no self awareness. It’s a dream factory nothing more nothing less.

It’s only $400, it was a steal at that price! Let’s say it was $500, and I played on average 4 hours per week, (I play a lot mare than that I believe), since I bought the ship at the last expo I’ve spent less per hour playing the game then buying a venti chai tea latte at StarBucks.

So if over the course of 1 year you put $5 a day in a SC fund you would have over $1800 saved up now to spend at this expo. That’s a lot of nice ships.

Or you could drink tea daily!
