Is the Corvette worth buying at discount for the future? What is it good for?

I keep wondering whether I should swap my large multi out for something else. I ran missiles there for a while but if the opponent's running PD (and most large NPCs tend to run several) it's a wasted hardpoint.

I use a long-range beam there, it's good for pulling and chipping away at shields when my main weapons are out of range. At range the chin-blocking isn't an issue.

Mine is best when sat on the docking pad and going up and down the hanger. Occasionally I leave it on its own to fight pirates but they scratch the paint.
I think perhaps it has a future mining role for me due to its capacity and relatively quick manoeuvring for its size.

So I already have a Federal Star Destroyer.....for destroying things. But, what else can I use one for?

I'm just trying to justify to myself buying another one. I've already got several miners in my fleet (and IMO, nothing is beating the T10 for that), T9s and Cutters for big-ship hauling, a Cobra MKIII, Challenger and another Cutter for Piracy, and a Battle Condy, plus an existing Vette for pew pew.

That leaves......exploration (with that jump range? ......no?) and smuggling. I may have talked myself out of spending 100M CR on the hull. 😀

100 million in Li Yong Rui space right now, it’s worth grabbing one for the hell of it, just in case you change your mind later.

All of your core internals from an anaconda except for your bulkheads will swap right in, if you wanted to give it a go. If you don’t like it, you can switch back easily enough.

I think it handles pretty great when you mod the drives, but I’ve got a pretty solid grasp on FA off. I wouldn’t worry about the handling numbers too much. I’d recommend focusing more on honing one’s skills as a pilot.

I wouldn’t normally recommend large ships for PvP, but if you insist on one, it’s hard to beat the Corvette.

For PvE purposes, any of the large ships will do just fine. They’re all overkill after a certain point.

Yeah, I'm thinking "only 100M CR" .....it would be a door-stop for now, but for the future? Hmmm.

Will watch the football. Then blow 100M CR. I'll transfer it back to Founders World and it can collect dust until the need arises.

Who knows? I may use it one day to transport Imperial Slaves. :ROFLMAO:

It's propably because most maneuvers consist of some amounts of pitch, yaw AND roll, where the Vette outmatches the Conda.
Thus it feels better, although the pure stats for pitch and yaw don't look that much better.

My combat 'Vette LRV Lurking Fear has the following stats with maxed out DD5s:
pitch 40.04°/s
roll 107.26°/s
yaw 11.44°/s
(all ingame)

Ok, here are the ingame values of my Anaconda, the Defiant:
Pitch 40.23 °/s
Roll 96.54 °/s
Yaw 16.09 °/s

So a G5 DDD Anaconda turns as fast as a G5 DDD Corvette. Rolls slower, but has a significantly better jaw movement.

What mass / hull has your Conda?

Just trying to convince myself to get another vette...
In the meantime i think i'll get some more dropships. At 7 millions a pop they make some pretty good module storage ships.

Here is my full build.

Optimized for PVE. So only lightweight armor, because my shields go never down. Thermal resist bi-wave, because the AI doesn't hit me with PAs. One Pulse Laser for Emissive Munitions, two small Rail Guns to cancel SCBs. The rest is Burst Lasers and one huge corrosive MC.

Going to swap the hull on the one I have and get a second hull to build me another one. It's just the right ship for bgs shenanigans.

You can do anything you can do in an Anaconda or Cutter, only without having time to go and make a brew whilst you wait for it to turn in supercruise. Guardian frameshift boosters removed the only thing that prevented it from being a daily driver for me.

I think a lot of the nay sayers are saying nay because they haven't the time or inclination for the grind. I have played ED since mid 2015 am now 70 and have owned every ship in game that I wanted to and the Corvette is the best by a long shot. I played as a member of Mobius to begin began as a trader and became expert in boost, boost jump to escape pirates as I found that my reaction times were a bit too slow for combat. Did a lot of various types of gameplay built and engineered lots of different ships etc but wanted the Corvette as it is the best looking ship in the game. Previous to grinding the rankings I had kept away from combat I had built several ships with combat in mind including a Vulture and an FDL but was completely hopeless at it, putting it down to my age and reaction time and going into a panic on each interdiction. Have had my Corvette a bit over a year now I mostly do missions etc from my home port and local systems in pve. I now play in open all the time am totally fearless in combat and without going into combat zones but just dealing with the various pirates who attack me I have gone from novice to 64% dangerous and it is all because of the Corvette. In the time I have had her I have only ever had one rebuy when I was attacked by a wing of gankers going to Trophy Camp in Wolf 397 to upgrade some MC's. Totally my fault as I could have jumped out but decided to test myself against them instead of the mostly npc's I do meet. To the OP do the grind it is well worth it and you will have the best ship in the game for everyone except the RAF and USAF and other pilots who play ED who can master even a Sidewinder in combat but for the rest us mortals the Corvette cannot be beat, of course I am biased.

It's good to see positive comments here about the ship. I should imagine it is quite difficult getting back into a smaller ship once you have got used to the fire power that this seems to offer.

Looking at my need for 6 Federal ranks, I doubt I will have the time to rank up for it before the discount expires, so I will devote my limited time to void opal mining, which will more than compensate for the cost in the future.

I suspect this ship could come into its own when Fleet Carriers arrive. Although FCs themselves cannot be destroyed (we are told), this ship appears capable of wiping out an entire fleet. Shadowing FCs with Corvettes might be the next 'gank' tactic to emerge.

Thankyou everyone for the comments. Please feel free to add more. :)

Gotta say, the Corvette isn't much of a "gank" ship, since the top speed and boost speed on it are so incredibly low. But it is a very hard ship to gank.

I just blew 101M on my third Corvette this morning, as well as getting my first ever Fed Gunship. I was slightly disappointed not to find the usual holo-ads outside the station replaced with those ‘wacky wavy inflatable arm man’ things that seem to sit outside any self respecting independent second hand car sales centre....but that’s another matter.

They’re both going to sit in Ray Gateway whilst I slowly engineer them, two full on grinds for ‘Vette mats is enough so this one can wait.

I just need to start a thread asking what exactly I should use a Gunship for. It’s just as well I don’t have 5.5billion in Sterling like I have in credits or my driveway would be full of cars I rarely drive

I don't think that's the hard part: the medium ships are so much more responsive that they're a lot more fun to fly.

That's the hard part, at least for me. I first flew a Corvettte for four or five days straight in CZ's, and then decided to take a break by hopping into my Cobra and trawling Emission Sources. I hopped in, all right, but the Cobra was so much more maneuverable that I immediately did too much of everything. I actually bounced through the mail slot and the toast rack on my way out of the station. It was the funniest and most embarrassing launch I've ever made.

The only times Ive ever died are the ones where Ive chosen not to run away.

haha yeah, after days of flying my python and 'vette around doing missions and CZs, a friend asked me for a patch-up as he'd caught himself in a mining detonation. No problem, hopped in my rarely-used asp (it's specifically fitted for hullsealing and fuelratting and I have a seperate ship for actual exploring) and blast off after getting his wing request and plotting a route.

Immediately smash myself off the edge of the mailslot and end up losing half my hull. "Oh yeah, this is one of the like three ships I own that I didn't tank up..."
