Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

I don't plan on getting anything I've spent back in my pocket or receiving an actual game at the end of it..
As long as you spend your money in informed way (which you are) I'm totally cool with that. It's just a bit sad that Genuine Roberts managed to fool around enough fellow spacesim-players.
It would be so much better if he was a real game developer and delivered a game, not the crapstain on both spacesim genre and crowfunding development when this jpeg-printing business finally go bust.

Ci-G have put up their Citizencon presentation up on the youtubes.

I'm only 17 minutes in - and so far the only gameplay I've seen is Genuine Roberts waffling on directing player screen outputs and looking a bit annoyed, a broken VOIP server, liquid physics that's still completely wrong, and uneventful flying around to a ambient soundtrack from the 90's.

Oh well - another 20 mins to go!

Got me on that one too...$1,120 for me...there was a rogue Freelancer Max in there somewhere :D

As for the graph...closer to the Plateau of Acceptance I'd say...been through the attempted refund already except I made it out...only to buy back in  Once I'd worked out where I was going to stop buying, it was fairly easy. My account values at a bit over $3K for that $1100 spend...not nearly as much as yours by far...but we're both in the black as long as the snake oil salesman doesn't scoot off with our dosh in the meantime...

I've not had much cause to regret my spend to be fair, I play and enjoy it as much as the ship shuffling... (wait for the horrified cries of "How much?!")

After a reshuffle...

It's a matter of degrees. There's at least one commando out there with a $65K+ (USD) spend, and I know that's not the highest by any means.

It is a matter of degrees whether it be Star Citizen or anything else...we all know or have heard of them, the woman who's spent hundreds of thousands on shoes and handbags she'll never wear. PC gamers who spend 10's of thousands building a gaming rig...or to my mind and slightly tongue in cheek, someone who'll spend £500 on a VR headset and decry anyone who doesn't have or want one as a flat earther ... (I'll cop it for that one I'm sure) ;)

There's a long, long list of obsessives, Star Citizen attracts more than it's share of them.... but it's also a matter of context, why are these obsessives spending on Star Citizen regarded as any worse than obsessives spending on other trivia?..don't count the VR rig in that one, please...as much as you could buy a decent ship in SC for that £500

Even one of my very close friends is an obsessive hoarder...he's spent close to £750,000 buying vintage motorbikes he leaves lying around in various dank sheds and garages untended and uncared for...he won't even sell me any of them...and he has quite a lot of desirables I'd love to see restored and running again.

I'll add that it's also a matter of perspective...nobody seems to mind that my utility bills for the farm with grain dryers and other farm equipment running 24/7 are costing me several thousands of pounds per month, even though I have a wind turbine that supplies electricity back to the national grid...or the water rates I pay to supply my cows in the fields in a part of the country where it falls out of the sky quite regularly for free would possibly pay to rehydrate half of the African continent.

Compared to what I forked out for something I enjoy in my free time, I hardly feel impoverished or guilty...those backers who've spent the ridiculous amounts on a non existent space game might pay more in tax than the amount they've spent on Star Citizen...

Not yet it doesn't :p

Don't fall into the faithfuls' mistake of talking about future maybe possibly impefect tense rather than present this-is-reality tense :D
My mistake...it's intended to have all these things...I get the feeling I should add 'usual disclaimers apply' to all my posts :p

Because the shoe obsessive won’t be canvassing for other people to walk around in her shoes with her, in a supporting role. Or advising others to buy shoes so that her shoes will get made. Or running into chat rooms for therapeutic tights and shouting ‘These shoes will be able to cure sciatica! Soon!’

The shoe buying doesn’t usually come with an expectation of greater, cumulative things to come, which will change shoes utterly if only enough shoes are bought.

Plus when they buy shoes they usually get some shoes...

I reckon it’s things like that ;)

Normally it wouldn't matter. Just that backers talking about things that haven't happened yet as though they already have is a pretty common trope over on the SC sub.

You know, why haven't anyone Kickstarted a project for The Best Damn Handbag Ever? Given the target audience they can surely raise billions of dollars, who need Louis Vuitton or Gucci when you can have the BDHbE?

considering the target group I doubt we would see such a project on kickstarter. Rich people with actual disposable income probably hang around different sites and places then the kickstarter site :)

Shush you fools, they'll add a handbag & shoes goal to their endless list of fluff... I'm sure CR reads these just as he reads what DS has to say.

...I am wondering if im gonna go and get the PIMAX 8K VR set for close to 800 USD for flight simulators...

EDIT: Ok, it's 1000 to 1500 USD...ouch...

That doesn’t include the rig to run it does it? So to play microsoft flight, say a $75 game, you need to invest $5000?

Yet, a $500 ship is expensive to some... Fascinating.

No.

Not particularly fascinating since it's so blatantly obvious that the two are not comparable. One is a gaming setup and/or peripheral with a wide range of applications — the other is a jpeg with no clear or concrete utility.
