Time to abandon it

Well if i was wrong i was wrong but i was under the impression that was what had been announced. I must admit i dont keep up with current events. No need to be like that about it.

Was going to go back and reply but as this is here...

Edit: From steam: As mentioned in October, our upcoming updates will be almost exclusively focused on addressing recent and longstanding issues and bugs. The next update will be our first step as part of that - and it will be coming towards the end of January. So in light of this... whos working on 2020 again?
Where in that is anything saying 'we have diverted people from working on the 2020 update'?

Its all good anyway. Only complaint i can see that you might have with my post is the word all. I didnt say they diverted anybody from anywhere. I mean stuff like legs, thats a couple year project? Or one year? So they know right now at this moment whats coming in 2020. Shoot the messenger if it pleases you, to the room in general. I just think it would be better to manage expectaions now rather than hype people up to a no show once again.

Well, we will know in less than a year...
Being brutally honest, even if it took longer it wouldn't particularly bother me as I easily have a year or two's worth of things I'd like to do/see...
Why be concerned when it is a year away? If it shows up you are proven wrong, if it doesn't you can refer back to this topic and say "Told you so!"

Thats not nice. I dont want to be baited into FSS talk in here, this is not the thread for it.

You are the FSS guy you might as well own it, that's the only thing I know about you based on everything you've ever (repeatedly) said here. If I assume you are complaining about the FSS (again) that's just because its what you always do.

They are selling dreams and not delivering. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times?

They sold a video game. Some people built it up to ludicrous heights of their private fantasy whilst ignoring what was actually said and on offer. Others bought in knowing exactly what it was and as such are perfectly happy with what they got.

I think

This time next year will be the major update

Bug fixes & minor polishes and maybe a couple of new ships until then. Then FCs, legs and atomospheric landings with ablation.

No im not. Iv been noticably absent for a couple weeks at least and i came back to find those poor souls still begging frontier and still being ignored. The forum piles on until the thread is closed again and the toxic element wins another victory over people who liked the game. Im happy they managed without me and the myth blaming me can be dispelled for good.

Yeah but its not like stuff didnt meet expectations, it just didnt arrive full stop. People got told (about carriers) if i recall right, only a couple weeks before it was due to drop. It would be very hard to convince me they didnt knowingly string people along for the best part of a year. At least. This is bad behaviour that doesnt deserve defence.

That's great, I didn't notice though. To me you are the FSS guy as that's the only thing you've ever talked about to me, and you've talked to me about it a lot.

A free update was delayed due the usual forum tantrum that happened after the perfectly normal and minor teething issue bugs you get with any new patch. So the free carrier content has been pushed back and they've reintroduced beta testing. Hardly bad behaviour by FDEV unless you are desperately trying to reframe what happened because you are miffed with FDEV (for a scanner related reason maybe ?).

FDEV listened to their customers, arguably they shouldn't have done that since the "influencers" don't actually speak for us all.

But what the heck I'm OK with delays no skin off my nose. I just think design by random internet committee is daft because the loud entitled types who demand things like game rewrites just for them are generally not a good source of stunningly fantastic ideas. We are just end users.

The majority of the Elite team at FDev are working on the 2020 New Era update, and a smaller team of people are "supporting" the game by working on these small updates and bug fixes. It's been that way for over a year now and it has not changed. It's why the game feels like its in maintenance mode, because essentially it is due to the small team supporting it while the much larger team works solely on the next DLC very long term.

Carriers likely slipped because the smaller team simply wasn't large enough to get it done on time. Ice planets were nixed because the people who can pull that off are tasked to this New Era instead.

The New Era, whatever it is, will come. The question of whether it will be worth the wait or not is another matter entirely. We'll know one year from now, unless it slips into 2021.

One thing you can count on though, the ADS isn't coming back. Sorry Burke. :)

But knowing how Frontier loves exploration and explorers, they have read the many long threads about the desire to have an ADS like mechanism in the game, and I'm sure a significant part of the 2020 update will expand on the exploration tools which will provide for the explorers who are missing that functionality without compromising the players who are currently enjoying exploration. :)

I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

You already know in your heart that it wont be. Perhaps im overly cynical but i see the entire thing as one big scam. I dont think ice planets were ever coming, infact in the hype shots where you couldnt quite tell if it was meant to be art or the real thing, i always thought the ice textures looked stolen from a below zero concept anyway. But yeah no ice. Probably wasnt even worked on past those few pictures.

Carriers... how many people seriously beleive that frontier really planned to release carriers? Or if they did that nobody knew until right before release that they wernt coming? Prove to me that there was anything more than a false ad campaign that got some space in the usual gaming publications. Put the game on sale, wring out a few more mugs. That is the MO isnt it? Live off the churn, cater to the newer player. Existing players can adapt or leave?

Anyway. Roll on 2020 :)

Most of the post was complete rubbish. Some was actual literal nonsense. Do you really want me to go through it and point it all out?

I didnt say they diverted anybody from anywhere.

So, when you said this..
Something that stands out to me. All efforts have been directed towards bug fixing, ok we know this. So whos making the 2020 content right now? Unless the dinosaur team is working on it in secret for the massive reveal.... then nothing is actually coming in 2020 either.
What were you actually saying then? Because if you're not saying they've been diverted, then all the people working on the big 2020 New Era update (most of the ED staff) are still working on it. Which answers the question in the middle. Which in turns makes the last bit completely nonsensical and ridiculous.

I mean stuff like legs, thats a couple year project? Or one year? So they know right now at this moment whats coming in 2020.
Is there actually some kind of point being made here in the context of the rest of the post?

Shoot the messenger if it pleases you, to the room in general.
What messenger? Messengers in that context are people who deliver a message which someone else has provided, or deliver objective factual information. You're not doing either. So you might get a few shots at you for pretending to be a messenger, but that's not shooting the messenger, and is actually pretty fair, no?

I just think it would be better to manage expectaions now rather than hype people up to a no show once again.
Coming out with a load of rubbish, and conjuring up extreme and off the mark scenarios isn't managing expectations.
And trying to portray it as though it's being done out of some form of altruism? Very poor form.

Seems like a massively overcomplicated and contrived conspiracy theory to me. Apply Occam's razor to it which requires the least assumptions :

1. FDEV plotted years in advance to change the DLC delivery method feigned an upcoming update and manipulated people into asking for bug fixes rather than releases to retrospectively justify their "delaying" the pretend content that doesn't really exist. This somehow benefited them for inadequately explained reasons.

2. Burke is very very cross because of the FSS, and tells everyone so all the time.

I'm going with 2, since its a single obvious fact and 1 is bonkers.

A company delays content releases, thus delaying the next paid expansion, all part of their sinister plan to make, uh, less money.

Devious.
