Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

It's kind of funny how this started out as “You can justify it how you want. [but] I don’t need to lie to myself!” and now that side of the argument is coming up with some pretty fanciful — seemingly quite wilfully self-deceptive — attempts at justifying what sounds like outrageously bad purchase decisions. :D

I guess in the interest of disclosure epeen-waving, I should mention that I have a setup that cost me somewhere in the $5,500 region — more than half of that is the HOTAS setup… and the less said about how much I spent on DCS, the better :p

We all have our habits. So talk about your setup. I’m curious now, as I would like something better than my current desk setup.

I bought an executive style desk I cut the drawers out of one side to put the computer in.

Did you need the desk to play Star Citizen? We can always add that into the overall cost.

Hopefully you kept one of the drawers to house the physical USB drive that houses the game.

Well, i don't know about you, but i have a gaming computer that meets my gaming needs already, that is of value for me for my gaming as well as my work. I have the computer anyway, and it runs most games decently.

Whereas a SC JPG only has use as a JPG for Star Citizen. Perhaps for printing out and sticking over your monitor so you can pretend CIG have actually implemented it (one for the BMM owners). If you like you can occasionally say "pew pew" at your monitor, while dreaming about all the varied gameplay that CIG have promised you that you one day will have. Just as long as you believe hard enough... also gib moar monies please.
...Or you could sell it to some other idiot to print out and stick over his/her monitor ;)

Can't speak for myself yet: I'm still counting how much I spend on electricity, food, commute to work costs, house rent, so I can play Star Citizen.

Ok, so someone made a skin for the Carrack...I need it, for the sole purpose of upsetting sensitive snowflakes that get enraged over the colour pink.

It's bloody glorious.

Greetings from a houshold where my rig is not a tax deductable and is costed as the family pc used by four people! My VR headset paid for from a long service award from work. My impression from recent pages on this thread is that those who appear to be getting the most out of this game (based on postings) are privileged to have the disposal income not just to afford expensive rigs, but can also treat it as a hobby costing hundreds (in some cases from what I read thousands) of dollars.

Jean Rasczak: All right, let's sum up. This year in history, we talked about the failure of democracy, how the social scientists of the 21st Century brought our world to the brink of chaos. We talked about the veterans, how they took control and imposed the stability that has lasted for generations since. We talked about the rights and privileges between those who served in the armed forces and those who haven't, therefore called citizens and civilians. [to a student] You. Why are only citizens allowed to vote?

Student: It's a reward. Something the federation gives you for doing federal service.

Jean Rasczak: No. Something given has no basis in value. When you vote, you are exercising political authority, you're using force. And force, my friends, is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived.

We are getting to the point where we can rent and purchase ships in-game so we are moving away from that part.

But to currently "enjoy" the "game" at this point i would say an Avenger Titan is the cheapest alternative if one wants to pitch in more than the bare minimum.

Don't know where you got that idea, I lost both my legs below the knee serving some obscure political whim, got up on my brand new tin legs and forged an old family farm into a going concern through not inconsiderable sweat from my brow in the process. Now my sons, formerly serving soldiers themselves, run the day to day business of operating a farm whilst I tinker around with old motorbikes, shout a lot and throw tools around the byre whilst pretending to be retired.

Nowt much privileged about it really.

Saying that, I come from a comfortably well off family background that have been traditional and career military since 1678, I went to a fancy military academy (thanks to my father being a serving army officer at the time) and also thanks to 23 years of service, have a small military pension to supplement my income not tied to the farm or general living costs...not to mention the slush fund I keep for buying motorbikes and pixel spaceships.

Pretty much. Read almost any post from those spending hundreds or thousands on the game and you get a definite vibe of "i have plenty of disposable income", which is not the majority of people in the world.

It basically means, collecting JPGs is only for those who are comfortable in life, and peons will have to earn their ships the hard way, when persistence is fully in and those ships are actually flyable. This is pretty much the definition of pay to win, but then you will get some numbnut who will try and say its not P2W, because nobody is winning anything.

I think you misunderstood what he wrote. He wasn't saying only people who are born into privledge. But people who have disposable income, regardless of how they got into that situation. It doesn't mean they are lighting cigars with $100 bills, it just means they don't have to worry about the family finances if they want to drop a few hundred on a virtual toy.

Also, never knew you had lost the lower part of your legs.

It should never stop a person succeeding!

Ahh...you mean old people...that makes it better :D

Indeed though... and I apologise for misunderstanding the sentiment behind the post from Kilvenny in the first place. No harm, no foul. I should know better than to pop onto the forum after I've been up all night stripping and rebuilding a hydraulic PTU from one of the tractors...to add to that, I was in a foul mood as my lovely sons, aided by my darling wife had swapped my boots on the tin legs onto the wrong feet as a prank (we have that certain services black humour in this house)...thought for a while I had turned into a proper stumbling idiot as I staggered about like a drunk in the workshed for 10 minutes before noticing

I'm certain the prank was payback for my efforts with the annual purgatory of the Xmas decorations... which I declared, like a proper dictator, was the final effort that I would give to it...
