Okay I did some checking.
The dinosaurs/pterosaurs we have in JP era challenge are the following 25:
- Ankylosaurus
- Apatosaurus
- Baryonyx
- Brachiosaurus
- Ceratosaurus
- Compsognathus
- Corythosaurus
- Dilophosaurus
- Dryosaurus
- Euoplocephalus
- Gallimimus
- Herrerasaurus
- Maiasaura
- Mamenchisaurus
- Metriacanthosaurus
- Pachycephalosaurus
- Parasaurolophus
- Proceratosaurus
- Spinosaurus
- Stegosaurus
- Styracosaurus
- Triceratops
- Tyrannosaurus rex
- Velociraptor
- Pteranodon
If we consider for a moment the restrictions to be a good thing, this is not the complete list of canon JP dinosaurs that are in the game already. Some on the current list don't even appear to be strictly canon. Dryosaurus and Maiasaura are just from the novels and games right? On sorta side note, the
raptor squad is available in JP challenge mode as well. So much for an accurate depiction of the era. That kinda throws the whole era appropriate idea out the window. But I will ignore that for the moment.
Dinosaurs that we know were present during any of the first three films. These
should be available to use in the JP era.
- Edmontosaurus annectens present as a skull in TLW (though technically the JWE Edmontosaurus is E. regalis instead of E. annectens. Maybe that's why it didn't make the list?)
- Carnotaurus (it's on InGen's list and according to the wiki it was cloned.)
- Troodon (apparently it was indeed present according to the Dinosaur Protection Group.)
Dinosaurs that are on InGen's list that we know they worked on but might not have been completed for cloning. There is a good case to make we should have these since JP was working on them and the DLC is a what if scenario. We complete the genomes ourselves in the game anyway. So Imo these are era appropriate.
- Allosaurus (incomplete genome)
- Suchomimus (incomplete genome)
List of dinosaurs that have appeared in games of JP era. A case could be made that these are era appropriate as well since they are not strictly canon but have already been associated with the JP era before.
- Acrocanthosaurus
- Albertosaurus
- Allosaurus
- Camarasaurus
- Carcharodontosaurus
- Homalocephale
- Kentrosaurus
- Ouranosaurus
- Torosaurus
And it appears we're not missing any other novel dinosaurs that haven't been mentioned already.
So this leaves these dinosaurs that one would consider to be not appropriate for JP era. Although some of them have only appeared in this game and you could say they belong in JP era as much as JW era since they have connection to neither (like Nigersaurus or Iguanodon). The hybrids are also on this list ofc, which really don't fit with JP era. Some of these dinosaurs had not been discovered historically during the time the JP films took place (such as Nasutoceratops, which was named in 2013)
- Ankylodocus (hybrid)
- Archaeornithomimus
- Chasmosaurus
- Chungkingosaurus
- Crichtonsaurus
- Deinonychus
- Diplodocus
- Dracorex
- Dreadnoughtus
- Giganotosaurus
- Gigantspinosaurus
- Huayangosaurus
- Iguanodon
- Indominus rex (hybrid)
- Indoraptor (hybrid)
- Majungasaurus
- Muttaburrasaurus
- Nasutoceratops
- Nigersaurus
- Nodosaurus
- Olorotitan
- Pentaceratops
- Polacanthus
- Sauropelta
- Sinoceratops
- Spinoraptor (hybrid)
- Stegoceratops (hybrid)
- Struthiomimus
- Stygimoloch
- Tsintaosaurus
So even if we keep the "era appropriate" restrictions, there are still some dinosaurs to be added.
Let me know if I made a mistake anywhere on these lists or if I missed anything.
