Griefers make open impossible, and how easy the solution is.

You said get rid of solo....... Solo is the only mode you can play on console without paying for psn+ or live gold. I have a PS4 but I don't pay for psn+. I am all for an additional mode for PvE and indeed such a mode was heavily intimated in the KSer (multiple open modes with different rules). But equally some players just want to play either with just friends or a curated set of players OR on their own either through choice or necessity.
So I ain't disagreeing with your premise of an open PvE but my "bit of treasure" is just a fact of life for console folk

Also when you think it through an open PvE is not as simple as you think. Is it based on trust where damage is still done if you don't police fire or what where you fly ? In which case I would use it ... But some players would certainly troll that so FD would have to spend man power policing (accidents happen so need to separate griefers from accidents) or would there be no friendly fire and ghost ships to shop ramming (the only way to fully stop griefers) in which case I would not go near such a mode. Policing fire in a furball and whatching where i fly is part of my PvE game.
Don't know anything about consoles, but on PC it wouldn't make it a subscription model.

If Fdev can create a game from scratch then they can certainly make sure that be zero damage is done to players from other players, so no issue with trolls.

This game should have been either a solo only game (as it was originally intended), or should have had a PvE mode right from the start. Its not too late for them to make it so, with the 2020 update, but I am a realist and won't hold my breath.

You have to remember that the Griefer community are extremely inventive, resourceful and dedicated to their goal of extracting salt. If FD flipped a switch so weapons would not harm another Commander the Griefers would undoubtedly quickly come up with another mechanism to annoy and pester their fellow Commanders.

Exactly, how quickly did Mobius have to implement rules against deliberately flying into the path of other cmdrs with crime reporting turned on? There will never be a perfect solution, and the more of a lockdown you put on potential "grief", the more unintended impact it'll have upon regular play while doing precisely jack to stop griefers. We only have to look at the crime and punishment update and the people that thought it'd do something about griefers to see what happens when you go down that road - it does absolutely nothing to stop the people who have already puzzled their way around the rules to continue messing with people, while being intensely annoying to the other players who occasionally get an accidental friendly fire bounty that previously would have just been a case of laying low for 10 minutes.

Well said!

Indeed however I would say anything goes in open now within the game mechanics.. however IF there was a PvE mode / flag and players were caught using exploits to get around such a flag, that would imo be indefensible griefing and as such FD could ( & should in that case) account ban players for doing it same as with any cheats / actual griefing.

There are no griefers on Christmas Day.

Just got wasted in Open by Cmdr n** in front of Jameson, while wake scanning (that's why I shortly peeked in Open).
Rebought my Cobra just to see total mayhem inside the station with everyone being annihilated by someone in Anaconda (not sure if this was the same who killed me or there were more).
So, there is griefing on Christmas Day...

Ooh. That name and shame though.

RIP @Go'Gen

EDIT: Oh bloody heck. Yeah, that screenshot was added after my reply. That's alarming.

Both staying in the port under reverb laser fire and killing incoming ships doesn't sound very legit.
It's possible, albeit not for very long...

Oh, and you want to edit out the CMDR name before you get stern words from the mods.

I was there a short while ago and it was certainly a cheater in a conda soaking up all the damage from station and multiple ships. It also chased me around the station and kept up with my Imp Courier which is maxed out.
Wish I'd had some Benny Hill music handy.
FD need to treat these jokers with an iron fist and permanent account ban from affecting BGS and playing in open.
FD are too soft on cheaters imo

I was there. My little Imperial Eagle followed this happening. It was awesome. Never heard so many "SEK" (in german) Messages. I flew around this guy. He managed do get some miles away from ShinRez (for whatever reason), but soon came back. He shot my (not very engineered, 3D-Thrusters equipped Eagle) down to 8% before I managed to leave.

Well. It was Xmas Gank I suppose. But rather lovely. I was destructed then at Deciat by an ASP Explorer, which distracted me from being in danger, because of being an ASP! (Good idea Commander ;-)) Well, his Squad "GANK" should have warned me some seconds earlier.

Back to ShinDez, many hollowes flew around, and one Commander flying a FDL got me...I had a enhanced thruster on my Eagle and some sort of fast boot FSD (by far not finished), with him telling me to be not good enough, for not being from the Kumo Crew (RP after all: long live the Empire!), I rebought at a prison system. Guess I did something stupid at ShinDez, but could not remember.

Second attempt to Jameson Memorial was a mess: hollow squares all over. I was flying circles trying to keep those in my front and kept getting closer to the station.

finally: I made it.

It was very much fun. Thank you Pilots...I will engineer my distributor as soon as I can ;-)

The only effective deterrent would be a permanent shadow ban for repeat offenders - even then, they would most likely use alternate accounts to side step such measures. FD could try an IP based shadow ban but that could penalise players that are playing more reasonably.

FD have already seemingly ruled out implementing PvP flags and a dedicated policed PvE mode so those that wish to avoid (or do not wish to have to deal with) the more deplorable PvP behaviours (whether they can personally survive such encounters or not is moot) are essentially stuck with player organised PvE focused and managed groups such as Mobius.

FD are in a tough position - they need incontrovertible proof of a breach of the EULA/ToS in order to justify the more extreme measures such as a permanent shadow ban (potentially on multiple accounts). That requires targeted players to consistently report incidents to FD's relevant support team which some (players) seem unwilling to do.
