Here we are probably in a similar situation. CR made a huge mistake going with CE and even I called it early back in 2014. But he'll never ever go back on that otherwise that would be giving flank to (justified) criticism.
There is also the perception of a non-software engineer that would not be familiar with the ins and outs of modern game engine programming, and the actual state of the code of CE and its technical debt (in code terms, not in feature creep terms...). From all actual coders i have talked with, CE was (and still probably is) a mess and was certainly in a very sorry state when bought by CiG....
dunno man, I backed KCD and satisfied with it -a game that was kickstarted not long after sc-, then the sniper ghost warrior games are a thing and they just released a spin off with amiable reception, crytek's own hunt showdown is also performed amiably. CE is undeniably a far cry -pun- from it's legendary status attributed to it's root and also undeniably much much less adopted than unreal and unity but it's still capable of being used to produce games. At this point I think that the SOCS whatever thing is just a really fake invented term to fool the cultists, while the actual problems are many other things hidden from public/cultists.

Everyone here is likely familiar with BoredGamer. He's not credible.
I listened to that video too.

He did very well on explaining the court-scenario and carefully deflected from the obvious Sq42 development problems. If he isn't (in)directly sponsored by CIG like most of the top SC content creators are/have (read: free $5k+ PCs for demoing the game, like CaptainRichard, WTFOSaurus, DeejayKnight, etc; RexZilla via RedBull), he certainly should be ;)

A great example comment from ObsidianAnt's recent video on Sq42:
Kudos, to you, for talking about this. How does this end well when projections aren’t met every quarter? I guess that’s why other Stat Citizen focused channels aren’t talking about SQ42.

Guys you all forgetting something about Star citizen there isn't a game out there now or in early access that has the advance tech that SC will have! That is why it so popular and so different. :) There are using tech not seen in any game before cause they had to create it for the game and the Ai will be spectacular when it comes out too! it would be so immersive you won't want to play another game! :) I can't wait till the economy is finally ready! :)
LMFAO. No. Just no.

The game is still in development so its not near the stage where its ready to show of everything it promises. And i know its taking long time but stayed tuned for this year its going to be a big one! The announcement of Squadron 42!
You do know that Squadron 42 was announced for half a decade ago, right?
And that the big new for this year is already out: so little of SQ42 exists that they needed to ask for an indefinite stay on court proceedings related to the the development of the game…

Also, you don't need to tell Mole to stay up-to-date. He's more informed about what goes on in and out of SC development than any of the sources you're recommending. If anything, the suggestion should go in the opposite direction.

It took me a few minutes to reply since I had to wipe the tears of hilarity from eyes in order to see the keyboard...the same as I did when I first heard it on that video...I doubt Chris Roberts can even change the time on his kitchen clock, far less chuck a few lines of code together outside of the Visual Basic he once read in a magazine :D

It seems to be a current theme with some of the devs at Ci¬G....tongue in cheek comments on Chris Roberts coding prowess...the one from Mark Abent during a video discussion along with other senior devs was priceless...as were the horrified looks and stifled grins from the other senior devs present :)

I remember that one. It was like they were all trying really hard to remember not to take the michael because they were in front of the camera and saying the wrong thing would cost them their jobs.

Thing is, some backers really do belive CR is the code whisperer, and that he is really reworking the entire physics engine by himself. It must be true, CR himself said so at the whale lunch last year.

With the release of the 3.8 Star Citizen patch, I decided to check out the game.

I started by selecting Port Olisar as my starting location. I woke up in my hab and followed the prompts to get up and leave the unit. Once outside, I looked back at the door. A blue circle with "Closed" was on the door's interaction point and I could not re-enter the hab.

I proceeded to the hanger. Along the way several NPCs were standing in chairs but a few were posing more naturally like one man leaning against a wall. Finding the hanger was easy since the port is rather small. Calling the ship was simple as well. It spawned the ship on C02. I passed through the airlock without issue. After reaching my ship I decided to check out the interior.

The ship was an Avenger Titan. I used the ladder by the cockpit to get in.Before starting the ship I closed the canopy and decided to get up and check out the interior. I tried interacting with the bed. Getting in was fine but getting out was another story. My character was stuck. After 10 seconds I was relocated inside station.

I repeated my trek to the landing pad. I could not get the ladder to work so I entered through the ramp at the back. After getting inside and closing the door, my character started to shake up and down. I appeared approximately 200m away from my ship and had to EVA back to it.

I reached my ship for the third time. Now none of the entry points would work.

I logged out and began the process again. This time I was able to get into my ship and get it away from the station as the station started to shoot itself.

As I began flying the pitch right would continually pull my craft. I was constantly fighting it. I selected a mission to clear out some baddies around a mining claim. I spooled up my drive. I accidentally went to Dalamar instead of my intended target because I was fighting with my joystick and the planet was near my intended target. My joystick seems to be fine when I tried it in other games after this excursion. I don't know what was causing that drift.

For now I am putting down the game. It took way too much effort to accomplish very little. I will check it out again after the next minor patch.

But i am a long member of SC so i know the game fairly well and what tech it is using and listen to all the conferences videos but you really should get bored gamer to talk to you about this on his youtube video. He is the person to turn too for Answers! :)

BoredGamer is the person to turn to if you want to hear everything CIG say parrotted.

He is not the person i would turn to for actual answers.

Sorry Mole Did not know! But you can stay calm just the conclusion. :)

Maybe this will be helpful then all the ranting going on here? :)

And also its good to watch the star citizen video and keep to update of any thing new! SC has always been releasing new video and interview of information about the game development and watch the road map too! What excited me most about the SC is the AI and how alive the world would be as i have not seen this in any other game but i have to see it in the game to see if my excitement has been real or not!

See you all in the verse and in frontier too! :) Happy new year everyone! :)
Did you miss the part where I mentioned I've been a backer since 2015...or maybe that everyone else on here knows... apart from you apparently, that I'm also a concierge level backer who plays Star Citizen every day?

I'd truthfully suggest, if you were the slightest bit interested in factual information on Star Citizen and it's development rather than fan fiction, pure dreamcrafting or pointless speculation...here is exactly the place you should be reading, discussing and taking notes. You might learn something worthwhile.

Bored Gamers vids...perhaps not my cup of tea either. Try watching Failure To Report's vids, they're a bit less... effusive ...I'm certain you'll feel all euphoric and enlightened after doing so...he's also a whale level concierge backer with many years experience on the development of Star Citizen ;)

Did you perhaps read the patch notes before you started playing...or asking in the gamechat if there were workarounds to any of your issues? It might have helped.

Off topic...but I just looked at the weather forecast for here in the frozen north over the next 2 weeks...wished I hadn't now. An entire fortnight of gale force winds and driving rain with no break, it's been like this for a fortnight already.

No ferries will be running which means no mail, no fuel deliveries for the farm or domestic heating oil, shop supplies dried up and we'll be living out of the freezers for 3 weeks. :cautious:

. People are living their own lives and people usually are adults (most here claim to be...Star Citizen also is a project mere "kids" are simply not able to afford in anyway).
A couple of things.
You don't have to spend loads to get the game so kids CAN afford it if they want. At its entry point (which is give or take where I am at) it is no more expensive than most other games.

Also as for any betrayal if the game comes to console.... If it comes to Xbox or PS4 you are right..... The game which was initially estimated for a 2014!release was promised to be something a console can't run.... But a ps5 / Xbox Scarlett is going to be in the region of 500% more powerful than a base PS4/xbox1 iirc

I am not going all fanboy and defending SC. I am concerned about it too.... But imo there is enough to worry about SC without adding things which are not really true.

I agree, I always say to people who want to learn about Scientology that they should phone up Tom Cruise. He is the person with the Answers! :)

That sounds painful, a complete clusterfruck for a game 7 years in the works.

More than a few people here in Australia would swap with you in an instant.

This needs an update I guess:

So, CIG repeatedly claims it switched over to Lumberyard, when apparently no such switch ever took place and they claim (in legal proceedings) they do not know how they plan to release SQ42 despite multiple public statements that it will be released as a standalone game.

How would this affect the lawsuit? If CIG admits they're still using a modified CryEngine then they didn't breach the old agreement. They've been selling Squadron 42 as a separate game for a while.

CIG doesn't show the Crytek or CryEngine logo in the SC startup screen.
