[Video] January update, was this what we ASKED?! & Fleet carrier delay...

"Another half a year to wait" ?

The middle of 2020 FD will be releasing news about New Era, and by then FC should be out or out soon.

Delay FC again and FD will be rightly ridiculed. Delay New Era more and people will frankly give up or stop playing while they wait (and not spend money in the shop) and most likely never come back.

If this update has fixed the Thargoid Instancing, the invincible heart bug and the Repair Station Bug, then it's a good update. Those Issues made players quit and blocked off part of the game. Now that 'Tharg the Mighty' has unleashed his hoards again, it could lead some serious fights over the next few months.

But come on, what did you expect? We can assume that the vast majority of the Dev Team are working on New Era, with a handful working on the present code base. They won't take New Era staff to do bug fixes as that is actually counter-productive in the long term, especially if the New Era is using a new/updated Engine.

That handful can only do so much and if community wants bug fixes and beta periods (which they've already explained takes effort to set up), then something is going to give and in this case, that's Fleet Carriers AND the Interstellar Iniatives (Which to be honest, I'm more disappointed about). I suspect at the beginning of Q2, we'll get another Bug Fix patch and then the beginning of Q3, we'll get the fleet Carriers but I don't expect to hear anything about them until Q2 (April, I guess).

So no Open Only Powerplay, No attention to CQC, No changes to Planetary Gameplay / no new Land based vehicles unless New Era does something about it.

salty but he is right. FD and Elite ain´t no Dream from Braben anymore its a marketing Money Grinder. Bugfixes like that should go with normal work. If the engine is not capable of doing things, easy just say it and don´t promise garbage to the costumers.

You should read it again then 🤣
I suspect that these 2 sentences, from the 'Open Letter' could be the 'bone of contention':

We don’t ask for new content and we don’t ask for a major shift in development. We simply want everything already delivered to be maintained properly.

It certainly felt as though "The Community" (as represented by the signees, not the overall 'community') were implying that everything be stopped to correct existing bugs...

That the very minimum of 'suggestions' in this document appear to have been adopted by Frontier (a 5 day beta - despite a 2 week minimum being requested) and then used as a 'reason' to delay new content would certainly indicate that "The Community" requests were responsible for Fleet Carriers being delayed...

Fleet Carriers are scheduled for Q2, while news on New Era is coming in Summer after FC

That schedules and plans for video games should be left to the professionals. That the community's whims should be mostly ignored. And, that influencers shouldn't be trusted.

As a software developer, I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say that users don't know what they want. At first I thought it was silly, but then threads like this make me see the wisdom in the statement. =D

They asked for stuff. Always risky that.

More exactly, they demanded quality to be the absolute priority. Based on how the last big patch at that time turned out, asking for more quality by itself was very understandable. That patch could've used plenty more testing before rolling it out.

But the open letter was written and supported with a lot of foam still coming from peoples mouthes. Voices got quite extreme. FD declared to do exactly what those voices demanded. And this is what we now get.

Of course, FD could've been a bit more professional, too. They could've understood that people were all riled up, opted for a more moderate response and not kick over the planing board and create a new all-bugfix development plan in a hurry.

No side is without blame. I just find it funny that one of the loudest voices propagating the open letter now, months later, suddenly acts all enraged and surprised about it.

I always thoughts one of the biggest bones of contention was the whole "we the community influencers" bit that showed up in or around that letter.

I suppose words can mean what ever you want them to, irrespective of what they actually say.

I'm sorry that you don't like bug fixes, public betas, and empowered Community Managers.

You're not sorry.

Let me expand on what I am referring to. Self importance on the scale seen in that open letter deserves nothing but scorn. Anything of benefit we players might gain from what happened will have been a happy accident. FD has gotten me and us where we are, I don;t believe attention seeking 'influencers' have the game's best interests at heart. I'd just assume we let the professionals handle things. I mean real professionals, not the random internet types armed with video editing tools.

Bah, damage limitation from Yamiks, 'wasn't me guv'. Yeah, the reason we have the most boring update for January since, i can't remember when, was that whiny, entitled, caught in a storm of collective hysteria open letter, but i guess it is the right time of year for Influenzas, at least they can keep selling their merchandise. The only good news is that despite the community, ED is doing really well, it has a lot of players and it deserves them, Frontier just need to actually give us something new this century.

If you're referring to Content Creators, they are listed at the bottom of the signatories section of the Community Requests letter

That is true, as a native English speaker, with a very good education, my reading such sentences, as presented in the overall tone of the document quoted from, is certain to have misinterpreted it, and to have that point brought to my attention by one of the 'original signatures' of said open letter.

You are not unbiased in your argument, StuartGT, by virtue of owning the 3rd 'signature' on that letter.

Absolutely: my name is clearly visible as supporting the Community Requests of bug fixes, open betas, and empowered Community Managers 😁
