[Video] January update, was this what we ASKED?! & Fleet carrier delay...

I suspect that these 2 sentences, from the 'Open Letter' could be the 'bone of contention':

We don’t ask for new content and we don’t ask for a major shift in development. We simply want everything already delivered to be maintained properly.

It certainly felt as though "The Community" (as represented by the signees, not the overall 'community') were implying that everything be stopped to correct existing bugs...

That the very minimum of 'suggestions' in this document appears to have been adopted by Frontier (a 5 day beta - despite a 2 week minimum being requested) and then used as a 'reason' to delay new content would certainly indicate that "The Community" requests were responsible for Fleet Carriers being delayed...
Is there a common underlying issue with all these posts regarding the open letter?

Something tells me that the reason why it is raising such a fuss community wise was that barely any ED Forum users were included in that letter?

There is a reason for that you know. The Forums are not the voice of the playerbase.

New content in any software is fantastic, but it also can introduce new bugs. I've brought friends and family into this game, and one thing I can attest to is that they do notice the bugs that exist. Honestly, what FDev is doing here (dedicating a release or two to cleaning up bugs rather than focusing on new content) is not out of the ordinary, and for the most part is a needed cycle in a lot of software.

I know that it's not pretty or fun, but sometimes it is just needed. It's rare that a developer gets a green-light from their users to do something like that, and I can absolutely understand why FDev would take the opportunity if it is given. I just hope that the community doesn't lash out at them because of it; even if everyone didn't ask for it, they had a clear message from users in the form of that open letter and there wasn't exactly a competing letter saying "Please ignore them and give us new stuff!"

I've been a huge fan of the space sandbox genre for some 20 years and one reality of it, that I think a lot of folks struggle with, is that there just aren't a lot of us out there and this means the games don't have the resources available to them that other genres do. It would be great if FDev could just churn out new content quickly AND fix the bugs, like games that are part of wildly popular genres can, but in reality that's generally not always an option. There aren't many of us, and we tend to not like spending money (that thing they need to pay their teams). Games like this rely heavily on the dedicated fans and players to be understanding of that, because if even they won't be then what's the chance new players would ever join and stick it out?

I hope folks are able to look past the needed spring cleaning and give FDev a break on this. I'm honestly surprised at the level of content they are able to put out, even if it doesn't meet the community's expectations, and I'm definitely appreciative of seeing an end to the bugs that did get quashed.

... I just think the open letter gave them the perfect excuse to announce the delay in new content. They might have been wondering how to do it, and the open letter was a gift horse to FD!
Agreed. I think we were only a few weeks (days?) away from the FC release when the delay was announced. No way they were ready then if they aren't ready now.

Nevertheless, "we" spoke. They listened. Can't really blame them.

To be honest, that was my takeaway from the open letter as well. Stop developing new stuff, fix the existing stuff.

Maybe that wasn't the intended meaning, but its how it was interpreted by some.

Personally i don't think FD reintroduced betas and focused on bugs because you asked. I just think the open letter gave them the perfect excuse to announce the delay in new content. They might have been wondering how to do it, and the open letter was a gift horse to FD!
I'm glad that, for whatever reason, FDev have brought back betas and necessary bug fixes

I personally feel the following explanation illustrates why many people are upset with Frontier Developments in general.

Frontier Releases Game - All is well.
Update 1 - Adds new content, but introduces bugs to game
Player base complains and asks for fix
Frontier Respond by releasing patch (Untested, No BETA)
Fixes some issues, but creates new ones (Stuttering etc)
Playerbase complains
Frontier release Beta to test upcoming update/patch
Looks Promising
The update goes live, fixes more long-standing issues, yet unoptimized and riddled with bugs.
Player Base: Pikachu Face

All the while Mum is the word when it comes to Frontier talking about what they are Fixing and what the update contains. Patch notes don't hit the forums till 5 days before the update. The update is here and it's a mess. People have a right to be fed up and upset.

It's the same old song and dance. And people like myself have reached the end of their rope a long time ago and are freefalling right now, just hoping someone will catch them.
I'm not getting into all that. Its pointless.

My 'unrealistic demand' of FD is to support what they make in a timely way. Not make people wait years and never tell them anything, or haphazardly release more updates that they think will work. For example those Powerplay fixes are about four years late, with the UI change about two years late. The former should have been in 1.4.

Oh, ok. I'm sure that info will come in handy some day.

I'd be more impressed with the professionalism of the random internet committee who demanded FDEV do exactly what FDEV did if they were owning that and defending FDEV for doing it at their request rather than clutching their pearls and shrieking for the smelling salts.
I think that unlikely - more likely is that you would have your understanding of the language used to be disputed 🤷‍♂️
The 'Open Letter' by 'The Community' has brought nothing but good to the game we play, folk like you and I just fail to understand that, surely?

Frontier would have pulled every piece of new content, despite the fanfare announcement, regardless of the 'Open Letter', obviously...

Ask Morghan. Apparently he knows who the Professionals are.

The question was referring to where the 'voice of the E|D community' comes from.

As to who are the professionals: in this instance, those on FD's payroll tasked with developing E|D. Certainly not the guys who's interests are 'Clicks', rather than content.
So my original assumption based on your statement was correct.

That's all for now folks!

Quite right....there's a saying in the UK that is said to football fans (soccer to the Yanks)....."Be careful what you wish for"

The playerbase are spread across many 'social media' platforms, of which the official forum is of minor import - the real voices of the playerbase, that are noticed, are those that bring awareness of the game to the masses, not the ones actually playing it and keeping relatively positive in their remarks, if they make any at all.
