Look at you in your big flashy ship, too big for a little small time crime.

Went to a threat 3 USS and found it chock-full canisters, one of which was painite. I picked it all up like the greedy bar steward I am then remembered it would all be stolen property.
I was in my 'Vette so finding a black market at an outpost wasn't going to help.
I've never tried smuggling goods before and I understand silent running could work. However, I understand the ship gets pretty toasty doing that and I had no heatsinks to compensate.
So what did I do?

I agree. Some hurdles in the game seem to be there to create what Yamiks sarcastically calls "NArraTIve". I like him a lot, but right there I don't completely agree. I think the game tells a story, the more you learn about the galaxy, and mostly I think Fdev has done exceptionally well on that part. Right now, when in VR, I'm this Martian Ambassadeur slash retired rich miner, fumbling around out here, trying to hook up with engineers to help me with the stuff and thingies that I can't fix myself, wondering where to get materials, when I soon run out.I decided to test out the changes to the Galaxy Map search function. Supposedly, they "fixed" it so you could search for stuff even if it's not in your cargo hold at the moment. So I tried it. Sure enough, it let me search. However, it also simply put up a red message that said "Only works for systems where you have personally docked" or words to that effect.
Haha! Useless for finding a good recent price unless you just happened to have docked in the right station at some point. With thousands upon thousands of stations this is not going to be the case. What complete garbage the in-game tools are, and continue to be.
It amazes me that such intelligent developers as FDEV somehow at times produce features that are dumb beyond belief. Oh well.
In the end I found an excellent price by using EDDB to find a place with the right states and high demand and a recent high price. Why can't I do that in-game? Because reasons, I guess.
On another topic, I'm considering re-equipping my AX stuff and killing scouts again. I didn't care for it much last time, but...maybe I'll try it again. lol.
o7 and all that stuff.
Also, does anyone know why I can't use alt+F7 to capture screenshots in open? Is it some weird privacy thing?
Well, wants and needs aside, I bought the 'Conda. For the most part outfitting it has been relatively painless if not cheap. The hardest things to find? an 8A power plant, a 4A gimballed Pulse Laser, and a 5D life support. I started looking in the Borr system where I bought the ship. Nope...So I hopped on INARA to check the recent Mod Locations. Hey! I There are all three at Lazutkin Terminal in LHS 20...Oh...medium platform...no wonder they are there, you can't land a large ship.
Okay, next...Grover Terminal in Borr! Fly there...land...Nope...Not here. Sigh...Okay, where next...
I fly to another system, land, and no, sorry, nothing here that matches what it says was here just a couple of hours ago. This is frustrating to say the least...
I click back on the INARA Galaxy Overview page and see, "Shinrarta Dezhra"...Hmmm, why does that sound familiar. OH! JAMESON MEMORIAL! They have everything! And still have a 10% discount! WOOT!!
Head to Jameson and get my parts...head out to the High Res that is about 5k ls away, and test out my new Garbage Truck! LOL...yes, a 300+ Million Credit Garbage Truck! Sit and wait for the Sec Boys to start shooting someone, waddle over (even with 7A thrusters, it does accelerate like a real garbage truck...I know I drove one for 5 years), pull up my 2 pulse laser, 6 multi-cannon weapons package, and start destroying the bad guy.
Once he pops, I check for any canisters that are not on my exclude list (important with lots of Sec Boys around), launch a collector, open the hatch and relax as the mats come to me. When all is done, I close the hatch and leave the collector sitting outside waiting for the next bunch of mats.
Yeah, I could have done it with my FDL, but it would mean loosing two slots worth of protection for a cargo hold and collector controller.
Once I get my mats full and sorted up or down as needed, I can then start doing serious Engineering. But until then...this is fun!
You are not the first to comment on this. There is in fact no place to get a 6A in Colonia. The Colonial Orbital records are false, you can't really buy them there because, as you said, it only has medium padsI've seen to run into a problem though. The best FSD I can find anywhere where I can land the Conda, is 6B. Both Inara and EDDB say that I can get a 6A at Colonia Orbital, which is just what I need, but there is only medium landing pads available there. No medium ship I know of can carry a class 6 FSD. Is this some sort of riddle?
Thanks. That was slowly dawning on me too.You are not the first to comment on this. There is in fact no place to get a 6A in Colonia. The Colonial Orbital records are false, you can't really buy them there because, as you said, it only has medium pads![]()
I can also (maybe I already have) recommend the Compromised Nav Beacon at LTT 4487, being one jump from Jameson, as variation when a RES gets trivial. It's roughly same level as a Haz Res, and the backdrop is pretty.I enjoyed that RES for a while but I'd hit the cops too often. There's a hazres 3.5kls from Jameson that feels better to me. Mind you, I tend to not take on wings on my own unless they are just Eagles or similar.
gimballed weapons doesn't work so well on ships using chaff.
All rather nicely put. Since the graphics card in a PC can set you back the cost of a console, to a greater of lesser extent. We really need to see all the excess cost of the PC as the price of freeing ourselves from the yoke of subscription.Because that's how consoles (not just the XBox, PS4 is the same) work...
It is a lovely thread. With the average age of participants in this lovely thread at around octogenarian stage...
The Braben crew is running their own server farm (or rather, is paying Amazon to run it), but that one is only accessible to the elite.
Rather confusing. I mean obviously the code for Xbox is different from that for PC as you can see via the upgrade package size every time.
All multiplayers, regardless console or PC use the same cluster of servers, but the server that are used by multiplayer are not owned and maintained by the Gates sect?
Wrong track entirely, I'm afraid - a quip on the old "war" between consoles and PC, where the PC side sees the PCs as "elite" (or "PC master race"), and the console side as "peasants". Some people tend to take that even seriously - my apologies if I offended any console player. What does the above " only accessible to the elite"mean? I assume what you mean is that their servers are for development purposes only, would that be right?
Essentially - although there are multiple streams in the Gates Sect, and the core disciples (XBox) are unlikely to sully their chips by connecting to Bezos' servers when there's a perfect alternative available on their side of the fence. So, Gates Sect books x amount of servers from Bezos Mafia for their software and multiplayer functions, and console players pay that service, and PC's can use it for free?
Not neccessarily - there are rather a lot consoles out there, as gaming PCs tend to be somewhat on the expensive side. And the console players cheerfully have put the ring through their noses themselves, consenting to be locked in their own universe. This can't be right, because in the grand scheme, there are surely more PC's out there than consoles, are there not?
Depends how you calculate it. Given their performance at the time of release, consoles are dirt cheap. Setting up a similarly spec'd PC would cost you multiple that amount. Windows maintenance is indeed a dark chapter.Sorry, as I said, quite confusing to get my head around that stuff, and btw. for free the consoles are not, and considering that the hardware is out of date, in no time, and PC always have the edge, the only real advantage I can see is that you have nothing to do with maintaining that .... chokes.... Windows....
