Maybe, but there will always be new people looking to get into the "Xdev" career and see CI-G as an easy first-step on their CV that leads to greener pastures.

"I helped implement X for Y, sadly the project failed, but I learned Z " is a lot better than "I watched youtube videos all day and I need a job"
So yeah a good example of someone going into it with their eyes open and trying to get what's good for them out of it rather than delivering what the backers paid for.

The developers can only deliver what is asked of them in their job description, and they are tasked in that role by their management. Delivering what the backers paid for is squarely on the shoulders of one individual only - it is Genuine Roberts sole responsibility as CEO to deliver what he promised and he was paid funds to do so. And he hasn't done it.

For nearly a decade.

For nearly a decade.

Its quite scary if you think about it.

We live on average what, 70 years? Depending on country, standard of living, etc. Probably less.

Oh, 78 years in the USA, a bit behind more civilized countries. Let's call it 80 then.

CR has spent close to 1/8th of his expected life not delivering a game while milking people for money.

Backers have spent perhaps 1/8th of their life waiting for this game that is meant to be the BDSSE, and they will have to wait longer.

Some backers have already died waiting for this game.

Scary thoughts.

It's not all that scary really my dear Agony. I've gone from my 30's into my 40's and will probably reach my 50's before Star Citizen comes out of the earliest stages of development and approaches something worth the probably $500 I've chucked into it.

However, Star Citizen has provided more lulz in that decade than I care to shake a stick at and collect in a lulzbucket. Consider it a decade of entertainment. Nonproductive entertainment I'll grant you, but entertainment nonetheless :D

Just went in to try the current patch (3.8.1.something). It's terrible, even more than usual.. Tried to go for some bounty hunting for a change, since trading is now off due to so many bugs and commodity timers.
  • Woke up at Arccorp after seeing my body float in space while spinning... Do Star Citizens have nightmares ?
  • Spawned my ship, while going out of atmo tried to find a mission. Seems like almost everything now is FPS missions, or box carrying (yay for the BDSSE !).. Thing i found one, seems to be about killing ships around asteroids and sentry turrets. Fine. Let's go.
  • Went through the idiotic R&R "hover slightly over the platform" refueling stages as that mission (like all the others..) was at the opposite side of the system. Fun.
  • At the 1st R&R, took off, tried to align to my destination for warp speed, could not engage since it was "obstructed", no matter how far i was from any obstacle..
  • So while fumbling with the (very buggy) nav system to try and find a close destination to do another hop, a group of bogeys spawned right in front of me ! Constellation and escorts.
  • Completely brain dead AI was no threat to me, but i noticed that i couldnt target anyone, or lock any missiles, or even completely kill them even though i did down their shields and really pound them with these gatlings. Also the new "3D ball" radar is beyond useless, as it rotates itself so you have no idea of the actual bearings of whatever you want to track...
  • So after a while with almost no ammo left, warped out of that stupid situation.
  • Finally after another hop and stupid refuel, finally arrived to my asteroid field where i was supposed to hunt baddies. Noticed my left MFD was now non-functional, only the "menu" was left on it, no matter what i picked it went to a black screen.. very useful.
  • There, tried to use the "track" button on the mission to get at least a nav marker. Nothing.
  • Then used the nav map to try and jump to the "asteroid claim" i was supposed to go to. Clicking on them makes them disappear !! Hahahaha. So they cannot be selected for nav target, obviously. Clicking on the center of the roid field (it's marked as a Lagrange point) did make them reappear, but anytime i would click one they would all disappear immediately, selecting nothing. Wow.
  • Abandoned the mission, went to park at the R&R at the center of that roid field (at least i could select that one), logged off until next patch...

You are lucky - my install won't even allow a launch :D

Nah. Scary is that well into year 9, with hundreds of developers on hand, their brain trust still comes up with things like this:

…consequently…
I don't have any issue with the workers, who are doing work for a paycheck. My issue is with the management.
…I have long since stopped subscribing to this viewpoint. Just because management is catastrophic doesn't mean the workers aren't a disaster on their own, on top of being complicit in the catastrophe.

It's rotten to the core and has been for a long while, the fact that irrelevant to performance, the money keeps rolling in is not conducive to a quality product.
It's a self perpetuating con, where the very people who are getting conned are the ones who will defend it and fund it!
All you need is a delusional figurehead to front it on a AAA salary and bingo, you're on the gravy train for life!

My dear Tippis - security violations like that are normal part of game development. The whole of Skyrim fits into one of those mouse clicks! You just don't understand the need for proper caffeine distribution in an openly available agile environment that is simply the best game ever, fuelled by procedurally generated coffee. Even worse, you cannot comprehend the scope of the Vision! We are at the very earliest stages of development here, and inventing bobbleheads!

The pipelines will ramp up, and gameplay will envelop 10,000 player instances in 100+ star systems in which you can fulfill all your dreams.

As soon as they hire a barista.

Who is fluent in jira.

Asp's comments struck me more as someone's supernatural belief's as opposed to any basis in fact or reality.
Being supernatural with outer worldly powers is the norm around here. Especially if you possess the powers of telekinesis. Like Christ Robbers Chris Roberts. Who somehow found a way to bypass the Arx paywall. And then Accio! Magically summoned the Elite Dangerous Bobblehead featured at 2:29 right out of Dave's store..... :D

Not gonna lie. The comments section was hilariously fun to read. Ended up providing far superior entertainment value than the stream itself :ROFLMAO:

It seems like CIG struggle to hire people though, and despite their high level of requirements on job posting they might have to come down on those significantly.

For example:

"A solid understanding of networking principles" might have to be downgraded to "once plugged in a Cat 5 cable"

I got that one too. Closing the launcher (with the menu, otherwise it will go and sit in the bottom tray), then launching again solved it. Looks like it's a new bug :) Dont you enjoy the Alpha :)

It really is a religion, isn't it?
It is. This is the first case of a video game that is also a cult, pushing beyond the boundaries of tribalism. Their members will be just as violent to any perceived "outsider" as any other cult...
I guess now there will be a lot less quotes from The Expanse and probably a lot less "Rocinante" named ships flying around..

James S A Corey is now marked as a surpressive person. The Expanse is now bad sci-fi. Anyone saying otherwise will be sent to Rehabilitiation Project Force for reeducation.
