The high speeds in combat are awful and they need to do something. I am suspect of their "fixes". The old cruise mode (or something like it) was/is probably the best. I don't know of anyone who is into combat that likes the high speeds.
Lol look at the old leaderboards high speed combat was cool in the old times 1.x This what SC is the boringst FM so far....

Maybe because my one hands-on experience of the flight model in SC was a jank fest, i probably don't understand flight model development. but i struggle to understand why high speed is a bad thing. Doesn't high speed raise the skill bar? Isn't this good for the git gud crowd? Don't high speeds make the combat more exciting and faster paced?

In terms of speed, how does it compare to ED (at the moment)? Is it faster, slower, or similar?

I thought the fundamental problem with the flight model remains the same, its just point and click.

The Gladius I usually fly has a top speed of 1236 m/s. It can fly around at this speed indefinitely (until / if it runs out of fuel).

I think my Clipper's non boosted top speed was somewhere in the 400 m/s. So SC speeds are 2 - 3 x faster.

You end up drifting all over the place, it is not possible to change direction when going this fast. You get people jousting. I will sit still and have someone do runs past me at full speed. They drift off 10,000 meters before they are able to turn around and do it again.

In bigger wing fights, even if you are trying to keep your speeds down, it just naturally starts climbing as you are trying to avoid shots from different directions. The fight that started out as a tight group of fighters ends up with a smaller groups fighting separated by 30kms because they are all drifting off in different directions.

Well bringing down those speeds would make things somewhat more enjoyable. Reminds me of old flight Sim, Mig Alley. Jet speeds but essentially cannons&MG's only, without modern sighting systems. Made dogfights challenging.

yea I agree. The lower speeds are better. Also projectile speeds can be reduced for me. I used to play a lot of Vendetta Online back in the day, speeds where pretty low there, but the combat was like a kung fu dance. I loved that. 2.x was close to that, I still miss that flightmodel.

Hmm… well, what would be good for SC — indeed, probably the best for SC — would be to take it out behind the shed and end its misery. This would indeed be good for all space sims since it would be one less taint on the whole genre, so that part checks out. :D
Don’t be silly

Then it sounds like the speed isn't the issue, its the flight model itself that is the problem. Maintaining high speed while being able to manouver should be a possibility.

Wow. Elite Dangerous Bobbleheads, and Elite Dangerous combat speeds. Added to the Elite Dangerous landing pad lights, the Elite Dangerous "volumetric clouds", and the NMS multi-tool ... Star Citizen really is breaking new ground!

Well, i suppose when ED adds space legs they will be copying SC then :D

However, i presume we won't be forced to walk through starports carrying boxes for those special delivery missions. Or at least i damn well hope not!
